‘Now we are visiting universes in our space ship. We are the aliens!’
Author Jimmy Solo continues his series The Future Travels of Hran with A SPOT CHECK OF PARALLEL UNIVERSES. The ‘book’ is a short story, the fourth installment in his series. For those unfamiliar with the series, Jimmy shares, ‘‘This is a dark-comedy SF-adventure series, starting in the far future, up to the end of the universe, and beyond. The hero is Hran, a guy in his late twenties. He is an average man with a good mind. He is not a superhero, but his adventures are super amazing.’ And with that setup, this fourth episode opens with Hran instructing Opian, the AI, to share important info with the crew – “We call them ‘parallel universes’ out of tradition. They all were created in the Big Bang. A set of parallel universes are called a multiverse. Our universe is about one-third out of the densest matter universe. After that come the liquid universes. Then come the gaseous universes. Finally come the plasma universes, containing only pure energy…’ Jimmy’s keen sense of wit and ability to create a reflective parody of our present time is but one of the aspects that makes his series so enjoyable to read. His manipulation of our concept of the ‘structure’ of the universe, the Earth and the Solar System, intelligence, et cetera adds to the pleasure of reading short stories. As for the plot, ‘Hran & company check a couple of parallel universes, while a fight is going on for the control of the spaceship "Home." (It is a mini-Earth with mountains, sea and towns, forty-kilometers in diameter.)’
