A Beer Between Friends
Danny and Will used to be the best of friends, until a girl came between them. ‘There’s no point trying to fight it, Danny,’ he said calmly. ‘This is going to happen. Isn’t it?’
‘I... I don’t...’ I stuttered.
‘Say it, Danny. Say it’s going to happen.’
As much as I tried to fight it, I couldn’t get my mind or my body to do as it was told. It took all of my effort to try and speak, and when I did only one soft, small word emerged.
‘Yes,’ I said.
‘Yes what?’
‘I’m going to break up with Sarah. Tonight.’
‘Why?’
‘Because she’s better off with you.’
He nodded, satisfied. ‘Good. I’m glad you’ve come around to my way of thinking, but I’m afraid there’s one more thing.’
My heart jumped into my mouth. He’d already made plans to take my girlfriend from me. What else could he possibly want?
‘See, originally I’d planned to just leave it at that. I mean, Sarah was all I really wanted – she’s what this is all about. But now I’ve got you like this, all ready and waiting to obey me... I think I’m going to have a little fun with you.’
He looked across my body, frozen with fear, and I wondered if I could make it to the door and escape.
‘I want to humiliate you, Danny,’ he said at last. ‘I want to punish you for what you did to me. For what you took from me. That’s why you’re going to be my good little bitch for the rest of the night, and then maybe – just maybe – I’ll let you go.’
