Justin Robert Young (NSFWshow, The Morning Stream, Night Attack series) debuts his first fiction writing compilation. Nine stories about Santa sure to please the subversive weirdo in your life. Specifically if the weirdo is you. 64,160 words.
An entertaining little collection, and a quick and easy read. As is often the case for anthologies, I liked some parts more than others. I didn't much care for the two poems. Their basic premise was interesting, but I think they would have been better presented in prose than in verse. Some of the other pieces, though, gave me a few chuckles, and one - "What makes Santa cry" - was actually rather thought-provoking.
The stories are idiotic, pointless and crude. The Night Before Christmas poem becomes a story about a pimp award ceremony where the prostitutes invite Santa so he can help them gun down all their Mack Daddies. Seriously, how low is the publishing standard in this country. Permanently deleted from Kindle.
This collection of stories around the greatest gift giver fantasy lovers have ever known. Chris Kringle. Father Christmas. Old Saint Nick. Santa Clause. And now comes the new vision of that old joy giver and it's not always a positive reflection of him. These stories are a collection of tales that make you sad, bemused, disgusted and shocked all at once. Then others that make you laugh and later pause thinking, '...Did I just read what I think I read?' Go Home. Santa, You're Drunk is not a fireside gather the family book. It's not a collection that wholly is safe for work. But it is enjoyable because it challenges the reader to stop thinking of Santa in a myopic manner. To widen your preconceived notions about him. To see him in a light that is not fully roses and chocolates. It's good to see the many facets of our childhoods greatest hero and I'm glad I read it. Now, not all of the stories are good and easily readable, but they are all memorable. So take the risk, read the collection and judge for yourself.
Go Home Santa, You're Drunk is differently worth the price. It certainly isn't the kind of Christmas stories you will be reading to the little ones this holiday season but it is a delightful little read for all of us who may be a tad jaded with this time of the year. <>
This is easily the best collection of stories I've ever read. Inspired. Both funny and poignant stories are included in this. Truly an excellent read. <>
