Just read Action Comics #252 — and yeah, this one absolutely earns its reputation.

The Supergirl debut is the headline, and it delivers. Kara’s origin is quick but effective—Krypton’s last survivor, sent to Earth, instantly expanding Superman’s world in a meaningful way. I like that she’s not just a copy of Clark. There’s a different energy to her right away—eager, a little lonely, trying to prove herself. And Superman choosing to keep her hidden in an orphanage adds an interesting, slightly cold edge to him—he’s thinking long-term, even if it keeps her at a distance.

The Metallo story is just pure Silver Age fun. A criminal powered by kryptonite going up against Superman is such a clean, high-concept idea, and the story wastes no time with it. Superman actually feels vulnerable here, constantly having to work around that weakness instead of just overpowering the threat.

Between the two, this issue is a great snapshot of the era—big ideas, fast pacing, and iconic moments. Supergirl adds something lasting to the mythos, and Metallo brings the action. Simple, but really enjoyable.

Lo primero que hizo clark después de conocer a su prima fue alejarse de ella, eso fue lo único que adaptaron de los cómics al show de cw

First appearances of both Metallo *and* Supergirl or (coincidentally as always, “L.L.”) Linda Lee!? A steal if you ask me.

First appearance of Metallo (M) and Supergirl (SG) March 31, 1959 - cover date May, 1959. M strikes me as an almost 'proto' Iron-Man (IM): chest plate needing to be charged with Uranium in order for him to stay alive. But enough of that - lets get to SG! Her impact on the DCU is beyond measure: her many contributions have often been overlooked because of her more famous cousin. Seeing her take down The Anti-Monitor (AM) and save Superman (SM) in Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 is an issue all comic fans should read; she goes head to head with (arguably) a Galactus (G) power level foe and pushes him back - buying time for everyone else to regroup and fight on. Glad to have finally read this book!

As almost always happens with stories of this era, the screenplay is so poor compared to the current ones to be almost laughable (and it should deserve one star). But this issue is memorable for two reasons: the first one is the first apparition of Metallo, one of the most famous villains of the Superverse; the second is also another first time apparition, and none other than the first Supergirl, Kara Zor-El, which will meet an untimely end in the world famous Crisis on Infinite Earths maxiseries. Both Metallo and Supergirl are so famous that this issue of Action Comics has a great importance, and should have five stars, hence the three stars in total.

This book is so dated but it is important in Superman's legacy in that it introduces both Metallo and Supergirl in two separate stories.

Still a fun read though.

Day 1: Action Comics #252 (May 1959):

"The Supergirl from Krypton"

First Appearance. Origin Story.

*I am reading one Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El (Earth-One) story every day, starting with her introduction in May 1959 in Action Comics #252, until her final appearance in October 1985, in Crisis on Infinite Earths #7.

The arrival of Supergirl.

It is a bit hazy how Argo City's plastic-like atmosphere dome is affected by the meteor shower. Main cause of destruction is always referred to in other books as well, as the meteors drilling holes on the lead coverings on the ground and exposing the green kryptonite.
