Action. Adventure. Fist to face. The Generalist is a hard-hitting ride through the Los Angeles of tomorrow, stuffed to the brim with monster-gene humans turned cannibal, Artifacts of enormous strength warping the very fabric of reality itself, secret organizations seeking to out-maneuver each other for ultimate power, and every day a simple miracle just to survive.
And who's standing between the rest of us "mundane citizens" and the myriad forces that seek to devour and conquer this world and those beyond?
The two violence-prone action junkies of the Shop: Frank Todd, the Generalist, and Daniel "Dash" Hopkins, his troll-gened companion and partner-in-crime.
Taking on all foes and challenges no matter how great or small, the Shop will do the job, get the pay, and woe betide any and all who dare to thwart their will!
The Generalist! Because you simply cannot read about people getting punched in the face ENOUGH!
An AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME 4.5 stars! All lovers of Urban Fantasy will need to read this series, it just keeps getting better.
Tabbo 2: Magic and Mayhem is the third book in The Generalist series and it is filled with new tricks, new magic, new people - who are really old friends and old enemies. We start to delve a little deeper into the person that is Frank, The Generalist.
I have recently noticed, as a reader I like the authors that have 'new' things. Some authors cruise along the same story line and the characterization and interactions are the only thing pulling it through, but this series and this book have everything. Awesome characters that you're always learning new things about. For example The Order of the Magi are so interesting, they are a complex order of magic users in a complex world of Magic and they definitely help to expose a different facet of Frank. On the other hand, Dash is at the shop by himself and we really explore how dangerous and cunning he can really be. The character interactions are hilarious! - I can hear Frank and Dash in my head, I swear. Let alone these new character's we're introduced to who have history with Dash and Frank.
The writing is fabulous. There are no stagnant scenes, everything included is needed for the audience's bread crumb, trail of clues. You have to be paying attention or something will fly straight over your head. The 'Overdrive empowered logic' that Frank's brain jumps about with, only adds to the suspense. You feel like your always a step behind him and when you find out 'whatever it was', really your like a whole city block behind. Words and scenes flow really well and I could feel the mysterious story arc building tension throughout and towards the end I was just waiting for the shoe to drop. BAM!
Overall, Taboo 2 is a great new addition to The Generalist world and I cannot wait for Taboo 3: Magic and Mayhem Part 2 to be released.
Side notes:
I love the long running joke about everything happening before Frank's morning coffee. Heh. It is a serious issue though. Heh...
What a last sentence. It deserves a high five and a Damn it Duder!
Jude? Judebro where are you? I miss you... Jude is my book boyfriend people, I have my eye on you.
For interested people, the first book, The Generalist - Taboo 0: Cliché of Memories is free!
Moving on to book three where you literally dive into new magic and mayhem. The boys are lacking in patience and coffee, but no worries. The cup runneth over with more fast pace, fist pounding action and adventure to keep you entertained. Sorry for the short review, but I have book four waiting for me. Grab your copy and enjoy!
Things are heating up around the Shop! Bloody violence ensues as several contingents try to take control of the building, with all of its artifacts. There might even be a demon summoned ! Hilariously irreverent, snarky, and just plain rude, Frank and Dash are yet again the highlight of my day! Off to start the fourth book now! Whoohoooo!
