This collection of short horror fiction was assembled one Halloween at a time, a yearly writing exercise that covers genres from cosmic horror, to ghost stories, to dark fantasy. Sit down for breakfast with a doctor who accepts the most unusual patients. Creep through the jungles of Vietnam with a unit of damned men on a terrifying mission. Follow a courageous young woman through unspeakable torment at the hands of a mysterious cult. Join a young California family as they face the end of the world. Reminisce with the immortal incarnation of fear about a life spanning centuries of horror... and learn what HE is afraid of. Finish your journey at the edge of existence, where gun-slinging sorcerers battle for the soul of a dying frontier town. Every tale in this assortment of thirteen horror stories is different, but each leaves a taste of persistent dread.
This is a well written book of short stories. Some made me roll my eyes, some were more frightening the more you thought about them. There are several sub genres, dystopian horror, paranormal horror, sci-fi horror, blood and gore horror... Good vs evil. Good doesn't always win.

Years ago I watched a movie that scared me enough that while traveling, I have never stopped at a rest area since. There is a story in this book that has confirmed that decision for me. Because of another story in this book I have added another place that I will never go to after dark or on a road less travelled. An automatic car wash.
