Probulos Page.The Statistical Theory of Everything (STOE) presents a novel and useful thought process to help you manage and thrive in a world of science, reason, and rationality. It is related to a concept called “statistical theology” discussed in a short article in Skeptical Inquirer (2001) by noted science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke. It offers a unique worldview without agenticity, patternicity, the supernatural, or a personal God.The concept is very if you line up all human beings on the planet and have infinite information about them, their every thought or action, every neuron, every synapse, every possibility, and every potentiality, down to the last atom, then, theoretically, you could arrange all human beings by any criteria from best to worst along a hypothetical line. For illustrative purposes, assume the preferred quality is to the right and the non-preferred quality is to the left on our line.Your goal, your purpose in life is to move yourself and others to the right of the STOE line, even it's just a small step each time. This can apply to any health, intelligence, happiness, fame, wealth, or contribution to society. By definition, someone must be at the far right and the far left.This concept is not to be confused with Stephen Hawking’s The Theory of Everything (2007), a unified theory that includes quantum mechanics and the fundamental interactions of gravitation, strong interaction, weak interaction, and electromagnetism. That’s very interesting, but another subject altogether.I hope you enjoy this Kindle book and if so, please review it and share it with your friends. The title of the book is “The Statistical Theory of Everything: It Explains Everything and Is Never Wrong.” After the introduction, the first sentence says:
“The STOE does not answer the specific mechanism behind the origin of the universe or life.” loc. 136
So I guess the title of the book should include “with exceptions.”
The author says everything is relative; there is no absolute morality or truth. (loc. 173) But later;
“Based on the STOE, this perspective is immoral.” loc. 327
The author sets morality with his theory. It reminds me of the talking snake in Genesis.
"Again, my belief is that we have the illusion of free will and are actually highly complex, organic computers.” loc. 208
We’re on a probability curve, with the poor, religious, and disadvantaged on the left side and the successful, smart, and rich on the right side. He constantly preaches that we should choose to improve our position. That sounds like free will to me, but he says choices are not free will because everything is a probability. Go figure.
He also claims to be a deist, and probability is God. To calculate probability, you must divide the number of favorable events by the total number of possible events. This generates a sample, and the calculation can be performed from the data obtained. That means possibility precedes probability. Possibilities have to come from something that is created, so probability didn’t exist in the beginning. Therefore, the author’s god didn’t exist, which makes him an atheist.
