This playful rhyming Little Golden Book asks, "How do penguins play?" Children will delight in watching bear cubs, seals, penguins, monkeys, and other animal friends frolicking joyfully with each other. Adorable pastel illustrations show these animals playing king-of-the-hill, keep away, and other fun and familiar games.

An adorable picture book about how different animals play, including penguins, monkeys, kangaroos, various birds, and more. The illustrations by David Walker are really sweet and colorful; it brings the animals to life on each page. Early readers will love the rhyme scheme in the book, such as:
Penguins like playing king of the hill! Parrots will play with a tweak on the bill.
The story is quick and easy to read. I wish that it had been a little longer, but it is still a fun one to pick up for young children. The title is a little misleading since the book is about an assortment of how animals play and does not solely focus on penguins. However, overall, the picture book is perfect for reading aloud and learning how to read.
Very fun book that informs children what different animals like to do to play. It explains that animals like to play just as the kids do. It also rhymes which is fun for children to listen to and read once they are able to start reading. The illustrations are fun to look at as well since they are bold and colorful.
My daughter has this book and I enjoy reading it to her. Five little penguins suit up to play in the snow and eventually come inside to warm up. Children can relate to this book making it enjoyable to read.
This was a really cute book with beautiful illustrations. However, I *did* want more penguin content! The cover was a little misleading. The book is about many animals, and penguins are featured on the first page.
When a book is called ‘How do Penguins Play?’ You expect it to be about penguins. Sure they make an appearance in the first page but that’s all. The rest of the book is about various other animals. Which was disappointing.
This was such a cute book. The book talked about many animals, not just penguins. And each animal had a funny, interesting fact. This was a fun and cute read. I would recommend it.
The story is very simple, definitely one for younger children or beginning readers. However, the artwork is positively adorable and steals the show! :)
An adorable book about how different animals play. Animals like people also learn through playing and it's fun finding out about others as sometimes we do the same things.
When presented with the book you will find that the cuddly penguins are so cute and adorable that even if you aren't a penguin fan you will still want to hug these ones close. Like a fellow reader I though this was going to be another penguin book but upon opening it found myself transferred to the world of nature and how animals play.
The only reason I don't put this book as children-nonfiction is since of style. Although the book is fun and is presented as a poem there are parts such as bear cubs are friends that didn't work for me. Most bear cubs are siblings so although they may be friends I wouldn't group the two the same way and there were some other pages that I wouldn't agree was the best way of describing an animal.
All in all with the bright beautiful illustrations and the fun reading children will definitely enjoy this book. You can also work on making this book interactive by having your children either copy some of the actions of the animals and/or have them show off how they like to play just to shake up the reading a bit.
I enjoyed this Little Golden Book but was caught off guard with the title. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't only about penguins, but instead about how different animals play. As soon as I started reading, the disappointment was gone. It was fun to read how unique different animals are in their playing. The ryhming that explained how the animals play was fluid and fun. The illustrations appear to be watercolors and followed the text wonderfully. A Little Golden Book does not disappoint.
3.75 stars I use the word "Cute" too often to describe but sometimes I can't find a better word, so this is an adorable book with fun pictures of animals playing! Bright pictures, makes me smile!
