Do you ever get a glimpse of yourself that is exactly who you want to be, but always seems just out of reach? The happier, kinder, less stressed, more courageous you? The ideal version of you isn't imaginary at all. It's actually the authentic you trying to break through. And it’s not a future version of yourself you have to chase. The true you may be new to you, but it’s not new to God. It's the you he knew all along.
In Do the New You , New York Times bestselling author and pastor Steven Furtick speaks directly to the challenge of living out your God-given identity and calling. He explores and unpacks six practical mindsets everyone can adopt to get from who you are today to where God is taking you. These six statements are truths you can speak over yourself any time and
• I’m not stuck unless I stop. • Christ is in me. I am enough. • With God there's always a way and by faith I will find it. • God is not against me, but he's in it with me, working through me, fighting for me. • My joy is my job. • God has given me everything I need for the season I’m in.
These simple, powerful, memorable phrases will shift your focus, feelings, and actions to align with God’s vision of you. God isn’t just calling you to do you. He’s calling you to do the new you—the unique and powerful person he created you to be.
Steven Furtick is the founder and lead pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, named by Outreach magazine as one of the top 10 fastest growing churches in the nation. In four years, Elevation has grown to more than 6,000 people in regular attendance in three locations. Steven holds a degree in communication from North Greenville University, and a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Holly, have two young sons—Elijah and Graham—and make their home in the Charlotte area.
'Do The New You' is an inspiring guide for anyone looking to reframe their mindset and embrace the lifelong journey of walking in their God-given identity.
"what you say to yourself matters a whole lot more than you might think"
The opening chapters do a great job of defining the central message of this book: aligning our minds with the truth of who God says we are. From there, six powerful mindsets are explored, complete with action steps, personal stories from Pastor Furtick’s life, biblical insights and practical tools, that make the content accessible and applicable to everyday life. The content is also presented in a clear, conversational style that is both empowering and encouraging. However, like many books in the self-help genre, it does contain some repetition for emphasis, but I have always found this unappealing.
"The point is constant progress, not instant perfection."
The audiobook, narrated by Furtick himself, was fantastic. Furtick's dynamic and passionate delivery kept me engaged from start to finish. I also loved the bonus content, which provided extra tools that are worth revisiting.

I'm new to goodreads, but one thing I like is how you can learn more about other authors and their books. This is how I found out about this book. I'm glad I did. This book is so good and helpful for people struggling to remember who they are. I found this book and I found another called, Chaos: Overcoming the Overwhelming by Noah Asher. These two books have literally saved my life. I was ready to give up but now I know my identity is found in Jesus who has always loved me. Even before birth.
This book is packed not only with biblical truth, but practical steps to help you live out that truth, day by day. Pastor Steven has a brilliant way of communicating with comfort and conviction. Each chapter is filled with personal revelation that is relatable, posing Pastor Steven as an encouraging coach who simultaneously is challenging you to tap into your true potential. If you want practical ways to start walking and seeing yourself the way God sees you while breaking off the shame of not always walking that perfectly, this book is for you!
As an eFam church member of Elevation Church, I take notes weekly as Pastor Steven preaches. Watching the sermons weekly has been like watching the "movie version" of this book! Reading the book was amazing as oftentimes we read the book and feel disappointed in the movie, however that is not the case here! Pastor Steven has a God-given gift to bring a timely word from God week after week. Because Pastor Steven is preaching truth, it does not lose any quality from "movie" to book! While I take detailed notes weekly, the book is a comprehensive compilation of a few sermons and a must read! I am blessed to call Elevation Church my church home!
I have always been a big fan of Furtick. I love his style and his approach. I preordered this and was happy I did. I didn't really know I needed this book until I started reading. Glad I read it. Couldn't put it down. Furtick and Noah Asher are my top authors right now. They have inspired me in some big ways. I am looking forward to a powerful 2024!
Whether it’s his books or his preaching and teaching, Pastor Steven is just so good at explaining and walking you through practical, God-centered principles and concepts for every day life. He not only gives you a handle on how to find God in your circumstances, but apply biblical truths to something that you’re facing in the real world to build your faith and then use it.
In the book, Do The New You, Pastor Steven breaks down 6 concepts that are digestible and reachable - they aren’t ambiguous or lofty, unattainable or over-spiritualized, but rather down to earth and explained in a relatable way.
He outlines how, what we do and who we are starts with how we think, and changing our mindset can change how we can apply God’s word and his heart to our situation and enable us to take the next step at becoming who God intended us to be, rather than feeling stuck or not knowing how to move forward. Each mindset deals with a specific way that many (and I would argue, most) of us either struggle to get past or allow to be an excuse to grow to our potential.
I appreciated so much Pastor Steven’s vulnerability as he related each of those mindsets in his own life, both failures and successes, in a way that I could not only relate to but felt less alone in and more understood in, but gave me a picture of how to apply it to my daily life as well, leaving me feeling well equipped. I found so much encouragement in what I read and it’ll stick with me for some time.
I highly recommend the book for anyone who feels stuck, discouraged, or just has a feeling like there’s more they are capable of, to supply practical steps to help them with a way through, providing an opportunity to grow into who God created us to be.

Steven Furtick's 6 mindsets are all attainable and doable, but the one that hit me the deepest is #4.
I appreciate that Pastor Steven didn't merely talk at you in this book, but actually levelled with you, giving insights into his own life that helped make each point more tangible.
PSF put on a clinic in this book. It felt like 2 a days in football. Gates of change is possible when you choose to activate these mindsets. I am changeable. Christ is in me, I am enough! I love this book how it ran me back to sermons from 2023 now I get to choose to walk it out.
Pastor Steven’s best. The chapters are very well written, and easy to follow. Pastor doesn’t only tell you about the “new you” but teaches you how to actually be the “new you.” I highly recommend this book for anyone who currently has a struggle with insecurity, as I myself do most of the time. Pastor’s words have encouraged me, and helped me reframe my mind to understand who I am in Christ, and who He’s made me to be.
This book took a lot of inspiration from sermons Furtick gave over the past few months. Stories were added in which added to the illustrations & helped to develop the ideas. While the concepts were simple, they were practical and graspable. Per the recommendation of Furtick in the conclusion, I have written the 6 main points on sticky notes & placed them by my desk where I do morning study & quiet time as a reminder that these things are within my control as long as I submit & trust in my creator. This was another great book by Steven Furtick that I would recommend for those looking to reroute the course of their lives and live according to the biblical model laid out by Christ.
Wow wow wow. I absolutely devoured this book and for many reasons. I’ve been listening to Pastor Steven preach for a few years now and his words always have a way of making it right to my heart. As someone who’s struggled with anxiety and perfectionism, I’ve let these fears of failure hold me back. Pastor Steven hit every point to help me walk out of my fear of failure and not let myself stand in the way of my true potential. This book is life changing. It’s full of life and actual action steps to overcome some of life’s challenges. I would recommend this to anyone, Christian or not, to gain some valuable knowledge on callings and walking in a new season of life.
Do the New You by Steven Furtick is a breath of fresh air in the landscape of Christian self-help. First by the cover you would think the book is about Furtick, the Prosperity Gospel, or a book devoid about God. It is however offering a compelling and empowering perspective on the indispensable role of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life. Furtick, known for his dynamic and inspirational approach, takes readers on a transformative journey of understanding and embracing the profound significance of reliance on the Holy Spirit. The language used meets the common American where they are. Those who are still reeling from 2020, are getting ready for a storm, or are in the midst of one will appreciate and be helped by Furtick's pastoral heart.
One of the standout features of Furtick's work is his unwavering emphasis on the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. The author's passion for the subject matter is palpable, creating a contagious enthusiasm for readers to cultivate a deeper, more intimate connection with the Holy Spirit.
In a world often marked by uncertainty and challenges, Steven Furtick's "Do the New You" is a beacon of encouragement. It is a rallying cry for believers to tap into the reservoir of divine strength and guidance available through the Holy Spirit while not neglecting the self-agency of the believer. For anyone seeking to deepen their spiritual journey and experience a life marked by reliance on the Holy Spirit, this book is a must-read. Furtick's words resonate with authenticity and conviction, leaving a lasting impact on the hearts and minds of those who embark on this transformative literary adventure.
I have read many books written by Steven Furtick, so I was excited to read, "Do the New You." I had listened (and watched on TBN+) the corresponding sermons connected to this book.
"Silence the chatter. Focus your faith. You can do this. God prepared you and trained you for this, and he's with you all the way" (pg. 86).
Furtick shares personal stories about his family, his friends and his Church. Also on the pages are Bible verses, true events, encouraging quotes, an old Chinese Parable and passages from inspirational books.
"Wherever you have a problem, heaven has a plan. Turn the outcome over to the Lord and leave it there" (pg. 179).
The author uses the term "new you" to describe the concept of the truest, most authentic version of you (pg. 14). Starting on page 204: The word NEW is used as an acronym: Notice. Evaluate. Walk in.
"Within you lies the power to reset, to shift, to walk toward a better future" (pg. 112).
Some insights from Steven Furtick: get the right voice in your head, make peace with your strength, a grateful heart is a stable heart.
"A mindset of abundance means you trust that God will do the right work, at the right time, the right way" (pg. 96).
The author shares six mindsets to become who you were created to be. Each mindset aligns with a corresponding Action Step. 1. I'm not stuck unless I stop. 2. Christ is in me. I am enough. 3. With God, there's always a way, and by faith I will find it. 4. God is not against me, but he's in it with me, working through me, fighting for me. 5. My joy is my job. 6. God has given me everything I need for the season I'm in.
"God is close to you, and he blesses you, and he is proud of you, and he is cheering you on right now" (pg. 23).

What keeps you awake at night? Wars and rumors of war? Worried about your kids? Financial woes? Anxiety about the future? Are there strategies to have sweet sleep and peace throughout the storms of life? The 6 mindsets in this book, Do the New You can help.
The thoughtful, insightful and life-changing mindsets in this book will make you think about your life in a different way, reflect on strategies to help you cope and find God’s peace for your life. The six mindsets also include an action step for you to follow.
This book is like having Pastor Steven as your life coach and he’s sharing the 6 mindsets that he uses in his life. He answers questions and provides real life situations from his own life experiences. The book is Bible based but not written in theological-ese(my made up word), so it is easy to understand and apply to your life.
The mindset that spoke to me was: Mindset (2): Christ is in me. I am enough Action Step: Accept yourself In the chapters that follow, Pastor Furtick gives strategies to achieve this mindset. My summary and ideas from one of the strategies: I am enough because God is enough. Don’t make my decisions based on I am not enough. Start each day from a place of abundance: 1. Seek God’s clear priorities for me 2. Stay in and rely on God’s presence 3. Be proactive by taking steps of faith. Step out in God’s abundance which will empowers me. 4. Remain patient. I need to remember that God’s promises are not on my timeline. I am not in control of God’s promises.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for strategies to effectively navigate the storms of life. Even if you don’t have any storms in your life, you may be distressed by the way of the world and its effect on your well-being, this book may help.
Do the New You helped me to stop worrying about being in control and to have UGLY (Until God Lifts You) trust in God. I hope it will do the same for your life. Sheila R. Cole
Pastor Steven Furtick’s book is a must read! My small group will read Do the New You for a book study. All of the Mindsets are insightful and encouraging, but Mindset #3- With God There’s Always A Way, And By Faith I Will Find It really resonates with me, especially Ch. 11, “Now Move”. Sometimes you have to move forward even when you still feel something from the past, it still doesn’t make sense, even still having unanswered questions. I appreciate the intimacy and vulnerability of Pastor Steven in each chapter. I highly recommend this book. I also encourage reading it with family and/or friends.
Reading this book is life changing!!! I’ve felt a shift in my thinking, and my action towards my life. Navigating a cancer diagnosis a second time changes so much but reading this book has brightened my season and changed my perspective about my life. Doing the New Me, because my joy is my job!!!!!
I took a while to read this book because there was so much wisdom and practicality to absorb from it. This isn’t just a book on theory and ideas but rather developing a practical mindset and steps you can take to build up the new you, the you God called you to be. I will definitely be referring back to this book!
Not my favorite Furtick book but there were some really memorable quotes you will want to share as you read it. The premise of the book was 🔥🔥🔥 6 mindsets and mantras that will change your life. But, the examples and supporting text relied too much on religious text. It would reach more audiences if those examples were anchored in concrete current day situations.
Definitely leans more towards the self-help than the spiritual genre. I was hoping for more of a deep dive into scripture. It’s not that at all. While he does use biblical references, the primary focus is getting out of your head. That being said, for reflection and self discovery purposes it’s good.
I have been a faithful listener and watcher of Elevation Church and Pastor Steven for the last five years. As I have been a part of the Efam I have seen huge growth in my life and opportunities and encouragement to do better. This book is a guidebook that is part of many of the messages that Pastor Steven has done the last year.
The six mindsets of the book are as follows:
I’m not stuck unless I stop. Christ is in me I am enough. With God here’s always a way, and by faith I will find it. God is not against me, but he’s in it with me, working through me, fighting for me My joy is my job. God has given me everything I need for the season I’m in
The book spoke to me as I see that Jesus accepts me I am. He knows the full story and your imperfections. Challenges are opportunities for growth and lessons learned for the future.
The parts of the six mindsets that really spoke to me is that I can make many mistakes and Jesus will help me through the hurdles and challenges. When I don’t know what to do I seek the Lord and it is amazing how He gives me the wisdom to get through the challenges. I can enjoy the journey even though there are snares and traps along the way.
As a continually growing Christian 2023 has been one of the most challenging years I have faced physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
This book is full of wisdom for the new and experienced saint It is an easy read yet is full of lots of scriptures, nuggets and personal stories that resonated with me. I look forward to another read and finding more ways to apply these mindsets to my life. Well done Pastor Furtick!
I loved the book! I thought it was super insightful. It has so much wisdom for particular struggles. Pastor Steven has such a way with his words. Thankful Jesus and Pastor Holly made him write another book🤪
Sometimes when we go through life…we don’t always want everyone’s opinions. I happened to be in a divorce when this book got in my hands. And the words hit my heart right where I needed it! There is more to my story….and by faith I will find it!
This book have been a self developed change amazing experience that gives you the 6 mindsets to help you become the you God chose you to be highly recommend if you want to reach your full potential.
