Never. Again.

I am so not sure as to how this book got such raving reviews. Really.
There is absolutely nothing new that takes place in this book. In fact, this book is so redundant, that every single act is nothing more than a one trick pony. I am actually impressed that this gets considered as a good book to people.

Arena finds that she is attracted to a man for the first time. Everyone seems to think they need to meddle in her love life. This happens time and time again.
Kaceton throws out--on a limb that came out of nowhere--that they should pretend to be seeing one another. They actually do this and for some reason no one believes it. The fact that everyone wanted to prove it was fake was just extremely unrealistic. It didn't make sense. It wasn't funny. And their resulting romance wasn't unexpected. In fact, to me, it came across as lazy. The fake union was used as a way to insinuate bonding and chemistry. Rather than Owens really work to show you that there was chemistry and bonding, these characters are literally thrown together and "forced" to be intimate with one another. There was nothing natural about it. And sadly, nothing about their relationship ever held water with me.
What was unexpected, however, was how many times these two would go back and forth without any progress.
They enter into the "fake" courtship. Then they end it. Then they enter into it again when Arena deems it necessary. Arena eye-fucks him. Arena complains. Arena eye-fucks him some more. And some more. And some more. Arena is forced to wear a skimpy dress. And again. And again. Arena is threatened by a wild cat, resulting in Kaceton needing to protect her. This happens again.
Arena becomes jealous of Mary. Arena becomes jealous of Mary again. See where I'm going with this? This is all this book consisted of.

Arena, herself, is a horrible character. She is a disgrace to women everywhere. She refers to happy, content women, who happen to enjoy being housewives, as "eager breeders". This is, apparently, a bad thing. Women everywhere should want to be better than men at everything they do. So this means, instead of enjoying sewing, every girl should be out there fighting in the mud. If not, they are worthless drones.
It is mentioned that Malfus has no respect for women who are happy to be wives of men. He only has respect for Arena, her sister, and her mother. I'm not sure why he would have respect for her sister and mother though, as they fit the molds for being eager breeders themselves.
Arena not only had beef with other women, she had major issues with men. She hated men. I wasn't surprised that she thought it was funny to punch Julius in the balls as hard as she could. She thought she was above them and she also thought that she was God's gift to them. Owens tried to impart this view onto her readers also, having everyone and their mother hounding Arena for a courtship. Everyone, and I mean every guy mentioned, with the exception of Julius and Malfus, wanted to be with Arena. It was sickening, especially with how she dismissed everyone as mongrels and worthless.
Arena wound up being just like the "eager breeders" she had a problem with, but this did nothing to stop her from her nasty internal monologue, or even external dialogue.

Where was the rest of this story? I thought this was supposed to be about something called the viewer...there really wasn't much to do about the viewer. Instead, it's all about Arena and her selfish ways. The viewer itself was an interesting concept. But you're not given much information about it. It doesn't really play any role in the book.
And if you look for a plot, you won't find one.

The editing was pretty bad. But what was most disturbing, I think, was having a 9 year old getting all excited about a grown man--calling him cute, and then telling Arena it was obvious that "he wants you."

The culture was hard to envision. You're not really told why they are acting so old fashioned. I am unconvinced that everyone would return to propriety because a machine was in the sky that faded people. The world building did not exist. Owens didn't bother with character development for anyone other than Arena, either.

I won't be reading any more from this author that's for sure.

Faded

I got bored. I read over half of this and for me it was to predictable. The main characters were strong, but just didn't grab me. I kept hoping it would.

Maybe 3.5*
It wasn't a really bad read. It was just too long and sometimes repetitive.
I think at least a third could have been shaved off and the book wouldn't have suffered.
But I liked the premise of the book. I would have loved a more developed world building. There are things that weren't completely explained.
I liked the characters, but they were sometimes annoying and immature.
I don't know if I'll continue with the series. I'll see if it strikes my fancy some other time.

Hmm

Pretty angsty and rather less.about the faders and more about the drama between the clan members. I like the snark, sarcasm and the.girl skills. It the internal wishy washy turmoil was.kind of daunting..

This is the first C.M Owen's book I haven't really enjoyed.

Arena is one of two daughter's of the deceased Chief of the Tribe. He was Faded from life when she was a young girl. It affected her badly, especially losing 2 years of memorys of him!! Her family lives in the farming section of the Tribe.
Unfortunately I found Arena to be annoying, too full of herself, her own point view and her own opinions & outlooks on almost everything. She was also rather arrogant, condescending & juvenile for a 22 year old woman. I only began to warm up to her as Kace's love interest towards the end of the book!!

Kace is the most skilled warrior in the tribe & will one day take over as it's Chief. He's highly sought after by the females of the tribe in the hopes of becoming his wife & bearing his children, Kace has no interest in this!! He's a loyal Son, Friend & Man.

Kace & Arena meet & are attracted to each other instantly & what follows is hours of her pulling him in then pushing him away whilst insulting almost every person possible, it drove me batsh*t crazy to be honest!! Lol Don't get me wrong, they are great together & he's mostly fantastic with her in all circumstances. When she starts to train as a warrior things improve a lot too.

The side characters, as always with this Author, are brilliant!! From the lecherous 'wolves' like Frank to the ridiculous & jealous giggling girls like Mary all the way up to his wonderful best friend Julius & her sister Helena, they are all full of life & laughs in one way or another!!

The overall plotline is good, definitely something different, which I enjoyed. The pace really picked up, to something exciting & much more like I'd expect from this author, from when the group left to attend the Warrior Competitions!!

This was an ok read but I found myself drifting off and losing interest quite a lot, which is unusual for me! In the beginning I was excited about the romance developing between Arena and Kaceton and I wanted to learn more about the strange world they lived in but unfortunately the book mainly concentrated on Arena's mixed up feelings about Kace, her stubbornness and her constant plotting of ways to make him pay - which was really disheartening. There wasn't much action or world building either :( I remember reading another trilogy by this author a few years ago (The Deadly Beauties) and enjoyed it. Oh well, at least it was free!

“I, however, find you to be the most amazing woman I’ve ever had the opportunity to meet.  It would do me a great honor to court you.  I can assure you I’m a good man, and I would work very hard to deserve your affections.”
Well fuck the MMC, I want whoever this is.👉🏻👈🏻

The two main characters are so insufferable, they act like horny teenagers who never had any human contact before meeting each other.😵‍💫 And the constant back and forth out of nowhere with the most stupidest reasons turned this read into a torture session.
Quick summarization of the FMC:
Non stop blushing, giggling, getting her knees wobbly and yet she is also weirdly enough a fierce hunter that hates male attention???
Quick summarization of the MMC:
Non stop smirking, laughing, teasing and yet he found a woman dumb enough to still think he is not absolutely whipped by her which makes his already huge ego get even bigger.
BORING, ANNOYING, RUINING EVERYTHING ELSE

I hate when the FMC is absolutely fierce and tough but as soon as she meets the MMC she turns into a blushing and stupid fool.🙄
Let him follow her like a dog and pathetically beg for her attention and don’t just give him her intense crushing on a silver plate😒.
And combine the FMC‘s behavior with a cocky „I know I‘m the hottest and best“ MMC and you have the recipe for a dull „so like every other“ book.
„Don’t giggle! Don’t you dare giggle, Arena! Damn it. I’m fucking giggling.“
„Don’t giggle. Don’t you dare giggle. Shit. I’m giggling again.“
These sentences are separated by a chapter, bro stop with this shit it’s so annoying to read about and absolutely ruins the book.

And bro what was that weird “Forwards or backwards, I will give you no time to think about it” scene??? That’s was absolutely out of context and made no sense at all.

“For the record, my jaw never hit the floor, doll. As for your threat, I’ll speak to whoever I damn well please whenever I damn well want to. You mend hems and knit sweaters. I throw knives with deadly precision and with speed your mind can’t fathom. I shoot a bow better than any man here, as proven today. I don’t know whose balls you borrowed to come over here and try to tango with me, but I suggest you give them back and find a new partner, because I promise you’re not ready to dance with me, doll. Oh, and by the way, if you ever mention my father to me in such context again, daddy’s little girl will string you up by your toes and beat the unholy hell out of you before using you for target practice.  Got it…doll?”
You’re telling me she can say all of this but than get flustered when the MMC just smiles at her? Ohhh wHaT a BaDaSs ShE iS.
The teenage crush behavior really ruins everything because why is she throwing knifes and goes off like this but than in the next second gets wobbly knees because he winked at her. That makes the prior character built up crumple like dry ass cookie.

„He excuses himself and stands. Don’t stare. Don’t stare. Crap, I’m hopelessly staring. I can’t help myself.“
I read this and I rather endure an exorcism than continue being assaulted by the patheticness of this FMC.

“For the first time ever, I’m able to stare into his eyes and feel absolutely nothing.”
This and only this is how I want a FMC to act around the know interest. Let him beg for your love and don’t just hand it around freely.

Like don’t get me wrong I love the storyline and the writing in itself, but after reading C.M.Owens other books in which the FMC is a fierce killer or just in general know how to handle herself, seeing that she wrote FMC‘s that are such dumb doormats which you find in almost every popular booktok book, I’m so disappointed and disgusted🥲.

If there was ever an honorable and kick-ass heroine, Arena is the true definition of the word! I truly wish I had an ounce of Arena's courage to stand up to those who misuse their power and abuse their social standing. Tomboys, rejoice! This is your book! More importantly, I love a good love story and this trilogy is filled with them. This first book is filled with plenty of witty (and maybe slightly sexist) moments, and the budding romance between Arena and Kace (who is basically Tristan from the movie Tristan & Isolde), is quite entertaining to say the least.

What made this book interesting was simply the environment that the story took place in; I was under the impression that they had sort of returned to the medieval times, but there was also a post-apocalyptic theme of being controlled by the Fader. Imagine living in a world where something hovers in the sky and controls your fate. Make one wrong move and you are faded, you lose your life, and the people who knew you slowly forget their memories of you. Yes, exactly! So, go grab a copy and see how the trilogy pans out!

The idea of this new world created by C.M. Owens was great. However, after reading 50% of the book, I was still confused and couldn’t picture the world. All the time, I pictured the Hunger Games’ world, and it wasn't until almost towards the end of the story that I finally learned more about it.

The main character, Arena, was a badass and responsible girl. She took the risk to hunt in a territory that she wasn’t allowed to bring some food back to her family. Arena was also a bright girl, but blind towards her best friend’s feeling. For her, love was a foreign feeling, one that she still trying to figure out while in a fake relationship with Kace.

Arena had my emotion running wild with what she experienced in her life. I was proud of her for her achievement, her compassion towards her tribe was commendable, and her problem-solving skill was admirable. However, her constant changing heart with Kace was suck and had made my blood boiled.

The ending of this book wasn’t what I expected. This was the first time that I was feeling reluctant to read the next book! After all the dramas, I couldn’t stomach bad things to happen to the couple anymore. But I guess I have to brace myself for whatever to come next!

Well, 3 stars for this one and I don't think I will continue the series. It was too teen-age for me, the assuming of what was going on rather than actually talking or figuring things out. It drives me batty when people run from their problems and nurse jealously or pain.
The other reviews are accurate for the story line, so no need for me to explain it all again.

C M Owens is one of my favorite authors so I will definitely be reading more of her stories, just not this series. Check out her Wild Ones (Vincents) series for some lunatic fun!

A must read!

This is my third time reading this series and I just absolutely love it. It's a post apocalyptic world where a certain machine watches all and if you threaten war you are faded from existence. Which is a very new and interesting concept I had not come across yet in my previous books. Arena is a badass you will instantly love and Kace is so dreamy you will swoon as much as Arena does. I definitely recommend this series you will be hooked. It was romance, drama and action.

Yep she did it again

Ok so I realize that I am late to the party on this one but ...MY DAMN! ITS A GREAT story. SciFi to boot. I love the fact that society has become tribal for survival. She takes courting to a hole new level. I loved this book and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

Definitely not reading the next book. This was horrible. So anticlimactic and had spelling/grammar errors all throughout. The overall writing style was odd. It lacked character development and storyline details. I really thought it would be good since it's the same author that wrote the MindFu$k series which was a 5 star!

ehhhh 3.5... I'm so torn on this one. honestly not the worst I've read from this author but I'm not sure if I'd read it again.. it's hard to get behind the premise of the whole plot esp in the beginning.. however I'm going to keep reading the series. I'm sucked in just enough .. arena is seriously one irritating character. there is a line..

Good read

Plenty of everything to keep the pages turning and the midnight oil burning. Felt that the FMC 's dithering regarding the relationsip was a bit stretched but the outcome was positive.

Rushed.

I am a huge fan of C.M. Owens. Anyone who has ever read my reviews knows I love "my happily ever afters", but they must ring true. The characters must be ones that I can invest in, their stories must be compelling. I don't like forced scenarios or relationships and I need quality writing. With this author, I get all of the listed requirements and in so many different ways. It doesn't matter if she is writing about gods, witches, vampires, post-apocalyptic societies or motorcycle gangs. The elements for a great book are always there. This series is no exception. Set in a world where a machine can pass judgement and not only remove you from the world but take all memories of you as well sets such an interesting backdrop.

Arena is a great lead female, beautiful, intelligent, fearless, accomplished. She's also hard to reach. She's closed off emotionally although she still fights for those in her tribe. Kace is her perfect counterpart; a beautiful , intelligent strong man who doesn't want any emotional ties. Of course they are meant to be. But between their own fears, explosive sexual chemistry, tempers, and obstacles thrown in their way it's not a given that what should be will be. To watch the evolution of Arena is such an entertaining journey. I want so much for her future. The lives she can touch through her bravery and generosity of spirit is endless, She is her father's daughter, but will surpass him.

And the cast of characters added along the way are great. Julius is my particular favorite. He brings humor into every situation. I would like more development with Helena. There has to be more to this Clash girl than we have seen. And I look forward to more Kingston. I will be reading the next book!

I have to keep reading

This is a very good book but I have to be honest I was confused about some things . I enjoyed the relationship of Kace and Arena and how it unfolded I was not a fan of the runaround Arena put Kace through for her love. It kind of annoyed me simply because you couldn't help but see that he was a good man and good for her but she kept pushing him away but at th same time keeping him close. You truly felt the heartbreak they both felt but you could also feel their love. I'm was really confused about the viewer. There was information given about the viewers creator and purpose but it never seemed to be enough to get a full understanding of what the viewer was but you could definitely tell it had a complete impact over all the people in the way they lived their lives . There was quite a bit of action but not as much as you would expect( outside of the competition held) for them to continuously reefer to a war but there is hope for more in the next book . This book definitely focuses more on the relationship side of things not only the main couple but of the other relationships in the camp . All in all it was a good book I guess I'm pretty biased as now I am a big CM Owens fan. I do look forward to reading the next two books I am completely drawn to the love that Kace has for Arena and the passion she has for saving her family.
