Conrad Jones, nominated for a 'Gold Dagger' award 2013
DI Alec Ramsay is stretched to the limit as a serial killer stalks the bars of Liverpool’s busy city centre. Six months before, riots tore society apart when fuel supplies ran dry and the Western World ground to a halt. The inner cities were plunged into lawlessness. As a fragile peace is restored, a young child disappears from home. Her father is critically injured at the scene along with three members of a drug gang.
Detective Superintendent Alec Ramsay leads the Major Investigation Team in the search for the missing girl. The investigation is marred by the death of two undercover Drug Squad officers in the neighbouring county. Internal politics and misinformation send their search into chaos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 7 Feb 2013 By Jay
This has to be the best UK crime fiction I have read in years . I had not read Jones before, but I am from now on. This book did not have any fillers . Every chapter was filled with something to tease you. I couldn't put it down. An author who is now on my list of favourites alongside James Patterson, Chris Carter, Karin Slaughter , Chris Mooney . The story was Fast Funny Fierce . The characters were on point. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

This was my first read by Conrad Jones now i recommend him to everyone,i read this book in one go as I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next a real page turner.I noticed some reviews criticized proof reading, but for me a far more boring read may be perfectly proof read but nothing of substance,i didnt notice any of the flaws some other reviewers banged on about the plot drew me in. I have now bought every book hes written on kindle.Buy it i felt it was on par with the early Martina Cole books.

By the time you get to book 4 of a series you know what to expect and in that respect this didn't disappoint. It may just be me but I was struggling to keep tabs on who was who as there seemed to be an awful lot of characters in this one. Another great read from Conrad Jones and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
Too many names, yet not enough character. Boring story too. Add to that the fact that there are errors throughout the book, literally lines through sentences we aren't supposed to read!
I don't know what has happened to this series. Book 5 I will still purchase based on loyalty to the first 3.

A fast paced book with lots of twist and turns, plenty of action and great character development. From the first few pages you are transported right to the UK. I became immersed in the storyline at the very beginning of the book. The characters are interesting and the book was a page-turner. The action, blood and gore never quits .There are a few surprises along the way. The writing is top notch and the plot is even better. The ending has such an unexpected twist that will leave you with your mouth hanging open. I am officially a fan and I've already got the next book in the series downloaded. If you haven't read any of his books yet, and enjoy gorey graffic scenes in great crime thrillers, I would definitely suggest giving them a try.
This series is well worth your time and money. It's packed with suspense and action.I'm already reading the next book in this series and loving it .
If you would like to read this intriguing read you can read it for free on kindle unlimited. Not sure how much longer it will be on there. As always if you like the book you read please take the time to leave a review for the author in places like goodreads & Amazon. It does not have to be long. Just a few sentences saying you liked the book will do. Authors really appreciate every review they get !
The first three books in this series were brilliant but, the wheels came off with this one. It started out like a dystopian disaster story. With fuel supplies running out, the UK and Europe are hit with widespread rioting and civil disorder. This situation leads to private armed militias being recruited in order to support the hard pressed police. Naturally, the main militia soon becomes corrupt and forms an unholy alliance with organised crime. The story then unfolds as a straight forward police thriller, albeit dark and graphically violent. Sorry, but for me this story just didn't hang together. Too many characters and too many differing plot lines.
Every time I read one of Conrads books, I think they can't get any better, I'm so wrong. This was brilliant, lots of different characters and it took a while to file them away in my head but so cleverly written.
I don't think it was as good as the first 3 books but it was still a gripping read where I felt it difficult to put down at times. There are a lot of characters so it does get quite confusing but you will see how it all ties in. Again I felt part of the MIT due to the lovely way the author makes you feel like you are there. I was a little disappointed towards the end as I felt like it came to an abrupt stop right at the finale and I would of liked to of read about the reunion seeing as that was a major part of the story. Never the less the final page was satisfying enough.
The Priest was the most unimaginable evil person I have ever read about! TBE things he did were horrific and I certainly would not want to meet him. On to a new read!. Jackfire
This is a significant departure from the previous three Alec Ramsay novels; for never quite explained reasons the world has undergone a series of riots and food and fuel shortages giving an almost post-apocalyptic feel to this story as recently widowed Ramsay is having to deal with not just a private security force still in-situ after the riots but also complete civil war within the local drug dealers. The action flows quickly, the violence is as brutal as always, and the conclusion somewhat obvious. However enough loose ends remain to keep readers of the series wanting to see what happens next.
Personally I’d recommend reading at least book three in the series before coming to this.
Author Conrad Jones does an excellent job of describing the action and violence in his books. This book being the most descriptive. You cam feel the emotions coming from the cast of characters, you can see the blood splatter in your minds eye. And so many bother things, many that you don't care to see! This book was also well written, the plot was good, and I would have never guessed the ending and the who done it! The only thing that I found wrong is that again the story is too drawn out. But it was still well worth the read, have no doubt!!!
I've read the other Alec Ramsay books and really enjoyed them. However I struggled immensely with this one.
After the shocking demise of Will, I felt like it had lost one of its stronger characters and the team seemed weaker for it.
There are so many people in this book and so many names and nick-names that I really struggled to follow who was who and who was on which side. Admittedly I wasn't feeling 100% while reading it and maybe my concentration wasn't as good as usual but I found it confusing and slow.
I skimmed and fought my way to the end but didn't enjoy the storyline at all.

CONRAD JONES. Frozen Betrayal. The 4th book in the series. I’m really enjoying this series as I’m sure you will too. Alec and his team are stretched to the limit, trying to solve crime. When violence erupts and Ged Barker is targeted as he is due money he ends up in hospital and his six year old daughter is kidnapped, this is when the violence begins. This is a fast moving book from start to finish. 5* 19 December 2017.
I enjoy this author a lot but this book has been the least enjoyable thus far.
I found it very hard to follow as there were simply too many people doing too many things - names galore. It wasn’t easy to follow and I kind of gave up and skimmed to reach the end.
Also, lots of shoddy grammatical proofing errors in my version which was annoying.
The synopsis said this was about a serial killer on the loose but it's about organised crime. Once I gave up wondering when the killer was going to make an appearance I quite enjoyed it, though the "Tank" novels are more absorbing.
I’ve been on a little “detective Alec Ramsay” binge as of late. The first two books in the series, I just couldn’t get enough! But this third one just Wasn’t for me. Rolling on into book 4 regardless.
Book 4 for me was a little disappointing after being absorbed quickly with the first 3 of this series. There were far too many empty characters who didn't bring much to the story. However it eventually got going and picked up pace it and a great ending.
Although an enjoyable read, this book was not as good as the previous ones in the series. It was confusing at times, possibly due to too many characters being involved and the unexplained post-apocalyptic vibe to the story. However, still worth reading.
I enjoyed the first 3 booked in this series but I didn’t like this one as much, too chaotic and too many names to remember. I like to relate to characters be they good or bad, but aside from the main characters, the officers, I couldn’t really relate to any of the others.
Seemed to be just going through the motions of gang violence and was a little bit difficult to follow with so many gang members. Not his best but will carry on reading his stuff.
Another amazing book by Conrad. Alec and his team continues to keep the city safe, faced with the priest this one is definitely the one to answer your prayers
A great read from Alex he never disappoints plenty of action for Alex and his team .Dark but expected from thi sAuthor but characters and plot well worth a read .
Another excellent thriller in the Alec Ramsay series. As I have come to expect from Conrad it is very graphic. This book examines the possibility of the issues raised if private security is run in tandem with the police during a crisis without the full checks being carried out and the implications of corruption within both the police and the private firms. Interesting view and very believable.
At the end of the last book Alec's wife was found dead in a compromising position with his partner and Frozen Betrayal sees Alec trying to deal with this along with a very complex case with a child's life at risk. We get to know Alec a bit more and Smithy also pays a big part in this book.
A very gripping book it lost a star because of the significant number of typo's. There were also a couple of places where there were blank pages which made my Kindle believe it had reached the end of the book and brought up the rating page (very annoying). I have downloaded the next book.
I really enjoy Conrad Jones' books, he very cleverly makes you understand the character, regardless of whether they are likable or not. You decide a character is the worst person in the world and quite frankly needs to die. Then he justifies why they are like that, so although you hate them, you can see why they do things. I have read three of his other books before, which have been gritty and sometimes harrowing. This book didn't quite do that for me this time. It is dark and has widespread cartel behaviours. I did find it a little difficult to keep up with all of the characters, but they all had their part to play. It was a good read and I will be reading more from this author.
I enjoyed the beginning and the end but I did find this book of the series quick difficult to read compared to the other books which I have read. He is definitely a very talented author and descriptions in the book can be quite graphic. I will continue to read the rest of the series and hopefully they go back to tense read the other books had.
I TRIED TO READ THIS BUT THE STORY IT MADE NO SENSE TO ME I COULD NOT FINISH. THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS BOOK DIDN'T MATCH WHAT I READ IT SEEMED TO HAVE DOWNLOADED SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.;√{
