This book was a warm hug for me. I grew up in Germany off and on for 9 years. My mother is German and so many of our family traditions are still in place today are exactly as described in this book. My mother passed away almost 2 years now and this made me feel like she was still here. A short and sweet insight to some of the German Christmas traditions.
A fun read and informative. It covers a lot of traditions and gives some recipes. It was interesting to me as my Grandmother grew up in a German area of Kansas and we kept some of the traditions, but not the history behind them.
Interesting facts, the book reads a bit like a list instead of a history of traditions, but I suppose it serves its purpose well. I’m glad I read the book.
This is a lovely guide to a German christmas. The Adventkrantz chapter brought backlovely memories we used the same one for many many years. In fact i think my parents still have it. is not something ive seen used here in the uk.
I had dropped some of these traditions as i had got older but i shall be bringing a few back this year with my own children.
