"Know, o prince, that between the years of the great knockwurst famine, and when poodle skirts went out of style, there was an age unavoidable. Hither came Groo, the bumbling, the big-nosed, the mendicant, to wander aimlessly, squishing great kingdoms to rubble as cheese dip through his toes."
#13 March 1986 Groo and the tale of King Sage #14 April 1986 The Quarry #15 May 1986 Groo and the Monks #16 June 1986 Groo and the Shipyard
Another solid collection of four classic Groo tales from early in the character's decade-long run being published by Marvel between 1985 and 1994. By this point, cartooning legend Sergio Aragones had fully locked into the look and feel of Groo and his world, giving us page after page of fantastically vibrant and lively illustrations. These four issues in particular include a few of the memorable environments that are part of many of the very best Groo stories.
I enjoy all four of these, but particularly The Quarry (issue 14) and Groo and the Monks (15). On top of Aragones's great artwork is script-writer Mark Evanier's hilarious gags hum along at a great clip.
Finding this actual graphic novel collection isn't easy, but I would recommend anyone pick up a Groo comic and give it a read. It's just good, timeless fun.
love Groo and recently had to hunt down all the trades as I can't see it being collected in my lifetime, we need complete groo in omnibus or library edition or even compendium.
