Ed Silvoso weaves together the solid biblical basis and practical outworking of how to reach entire cities for Christ. He presents a working model for reaching each city through his own personal battle scars and triumphant victories. Every believer will be challenged and equipped for leading seekers into the Kingdom of God.
Ed Silvoso is an Argentinian Christian author and documentarian. He is the founder of Harvest Evangelism and the International Transformation Network, the objective of which is to end worldwide systemic poverty. He is a leader of the Argentine Revival and of the modern transformation movement.
Silvoso has written extensively on spiritual transformation in volumes that contain the principles and paradigms generally adopted in the movement. These books provide significant biographical information that helps to trace its origins as well as the personal journey he took that resulted in becoming one of its principal figures.
I'm not 100% in agreement with Silvoso's theology, but I believe the concept of prayer evangelism, especially through neighborhood prayer groups, is a very powerful one. A group in our community is holding regular meetings to pray and discuss how to use these ideas to reach our neighbors for Christ, and I'm excited to see what God will do with it!
The principles contained in this book are just as relevant today as when the book was first published. Dreaming for the city when there seems to be so many negative forces mounted against the church may seem futile, but that's not true. We need accounts such as what happened in Resistencia to remind us of what is possible when there is unity in the church, a burden for the city, and a willingness to see God move however that looks like and whatever inconveniences it creates. I found that this book both challenged me and encouraged me as I think about my own neighborhood and region and just what might be possible. It is easy and tempting to get ahead of ourselves in wanting to infiltrate and destroy Satan's perimeter before establishing and securing God's perimeter. But we must first shore up our own space and that may get ugly as God reveals and deals with the "internal" sins. This book reminds us of what it really means to see a revival -- it's not pretty. In fact, it's pretty messy. Yet, it's also glorious. And it is something our heart should desire as we see the devastation that currently wreaks havoc in our cities. Knowing that others have had visions from the city and have triumphed over many trials and attacks to see it happen should encourage us to press on.
I read this in preparation for an evangelism trip to Argentina with Harvest Evangelism, led by Ed Silvoso. It teaches concepts on reaching entire cities by Churches working together and being strategic in prayer and outreach. And in being persistent. Successes stories from cities like Resistencia, Argentina are covered as models of what is possible in other Nations, like the United States.
Silvosos brother-in-law is Luis Palau. While lessor known Ed is an amazingly powerful and respected man of God.
It was an insightful book on the dynamics of prayers and evangelism. A necessary book if you have the desire to see your city being won for the gospel.
