The Steamspinner Mutiny is a story that takes place after Emma Jane Holloway's A STUDY IN DARKNESS and before A STUDY IN ASHES, which are the second and third books in her Baskerville Affair series. Be aware that there are spoilers if you have not read A STUDY IN DARKNESS.

Ever since childhood, Emma Jane Holloway refused to accept that history was nothing but facts prisoned behind the closed door of time. Why waste a perfectly good playground coloring within the timelines? Accordingly, her novels are filled with whimsical impossibilities and the occasional eye-blinking impertinence—but always in the service of grand adventure.
Struggling between the practical and the artistic—a family tradition, along with ghosts and a belief in the curative powers of shortbread—Emma Jane has a degree in literature and job in finance. She lives in the Pacific Northwest in a house crammed with books, musical instruments, and half-finished sewing projects. In the meantime, she’s published articles, essays, short stories, and enough novels to build a fort for her stuffed hedgehog.
Another great short story, I wish the books could have been as good.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It had earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Great story that is set after the events of the second The Baskerville Affair book, A Study in Darkness. With the disappearance of Captain Niccollo, the remainder of his crew is waiting at their rendezvous point, finishing the ship that they were building from plans stolen from the sorcerer, Dr Magnus. They take on three new crew members who decide they need the ship for their own ends and after trying to convince Striker to go along with their plan, they try to steal it. As a result, Striker has to make a decision as to whether to keep waiting endlessly for Nick to return or to move on, at least for now. I liked getting a bit more insight into Striker's character, and I loved the addition of the little dog, who wormed his way into a softer heart than anyone suspected.
You know when you're reading a series and there's one character that you start out hating but ultimately are forced to love? That's Striker. And this story was utterly fabulous. I loved the segue between A Study in Darkness and a Study in Ashes and the change of point of view was awesome - not to mention the action, and yes, a dog with a most unusual and adorable name. ;-) ~Full Review to come
I liked that this filled in a period of time now covered by the novels. I didn't love this novella as much as the other two because although Striker is an interesting character, he isn't one of my favorites. But it's definitely worth reading to get an idea of what was going on with him prior to book 3.
