This is one of the best books about Albert Einstein in the world, take it from me. It is so simple and well-explained that it can help everybody understand Einstein's mid-blowing life

Jeremy BernsteinUna biografia di Einstein agile e scorrevole, sebbene purtroppo datata nel contenuto, e specialmente nell'approccio all'interessedi Einstein alla meccanica quantistica. Alcune schede tecniche permettono al lettore non familiare di agganciare alcuni concetti di base per la meccanica delle onde e delle contrazioni dei sistemi di riferimento. Alcuni dettagli interessanti sono distribuiti lungo il testo; per esempio, il fatto che fu l'ossessione di Leo Szilard (con cui Einstein condivise dei brevetti per dei frigoriferi silenziosi) a muovere in definitiva gli Stati Uniti al progetto Manhattan (la lettera firmata da Einstein essendone solo un tassello, il piú importante fattore restando l'avvio dello stesso programma in Inghilterra); Einstein snobba gran parte delle lezioni all'ETH e si affida agli appunti scrupolosi di Marcel Grossman, lo stesso che poi lo aiuterá ad appropriarsi della matematica necessaria allo sviluppo della relativitá generale; Einstein incontra Michelson che ancora non crede del tutto ai fotoni (legato ancora all'etere); le relazioni difficili con le due mogli, la sorte non nota della prima figlia, i problemi mentali del secondo genito, e la condizione di divorzio dalla prima moglie che includeva tutti i proventi del premio Nobel (a venire).
C'é poco spazio per l'orientamento filosofico di Einstein, che diventa protagonista solo nella misura in cui lo porta a rigettare all'inizio le soluzioni di Friedmann e a pregiudicare l'inclusione della costante cosmologica per salvare il tipo di universo (statico) che lui aveva in mente. C'é invece nell'autore un atteggiamento condiscendente verso l'Einstein insediato in America, che é ormai considerato anacronistico e che sottovaluta largamente gli sporadici ma centrali contributi di Einstein nella critica alla meccanica quantistica (non si fa menzione del paper EPR, e di ció che esso ha indotto a posteriori, salvo menzione minima del lavoro di John Bell).
Una introduzione decente allo scienziato simbolo, piú di ogni altro, della transizione dalla meccanica classica alla quantistica, che deve preludere a trattamenti piú sostanziosi per un quadro completo di chi fu e cosa pensó Einstein.

Albert Einstein's biography was a well written masterpiece with everything. The starting is amazing with a personal story from the narrator. It carefully explains all of Einstein's theories in detail. The life of Einstein through the words of the narrator were extraordinary. The narrator was in touch with Einstein and that gave us a closer look at Einstein's life. In conclusion, Albert Einstein: And the Frontiers of Physics was a superb biography with amazing detail.

informational. has background information and leads on into his accomplishments. Also many of the thinking processes and letters are included providing insight and inner views on what we originally didn't know. Not a basic book with information laid out easily. Some is portrayed differently and it's a book you need to think about while you read it.

This is a biography with interesting insights on Einstein's work and a few hints on his private life. What makes it more than just another biography is the scientific notions and explanations given by the author who is a good physicist (he has collaborated at CERN).

I have learned that the Author, Jeremy Bernstein, didn't get the privilidge to meet Albert Einstein himslef, but he put his effort into getting to know him and getting to understand his theory which means be the 13th person who actually understands Einstein's theory.
