Nemesis is more like a Batman if you ask me.
It put me off the story at first, him being some kind of vigilante, character from comics. I just couldn't take him seriously. But when we meet Gage, daamn, I swooned.
Debra is the sister of Cilla in the previous book and it was weird witnessing her sexcapades when we saw her as a kid, basically.
I'm sorry, but all I could focus on in this book was how similar they were to the In Death characters. Call me obsessed, cause it's true.
Admittedly, Gage could be a potential Roarke, however, Roarke makes me swoon way more and he has way more respect for the law since he met Eve. This aspect really annoyed me in Gage. He was so hellbent on getting justice his way and no other. Not to mention all the times he didn't tell Debra anything and hid secrets from her constantly. That just isn't a foundation for a stable relationship which escaladed super quickly, by the way.
The fact that he pretended to be two people for so long didn't make a good impression either. Poor Debra was nearly ready to cry from despair of loving two men.
Speaking of Debra, so not Eve. More like Rio, but then I kept imagining Rio with Roarke and no. That's just wrong. Besides, none of the female characters so far have the balls Eve does.
When Frank was introduced who was a butler/ex con, I kept imagining Summerset and considering how great Frank's relationship was with Debra I wanted to laugh.
I did enjoy the romance for what it was, but the characters didn't vibe with me.
Gage being a cop, then in a year long coma, then with his superpower, then he's a Nemesis. It just seemed like a lot packed in one character. Also, the superpower thing, I wish it wasn't there. It made him even more of a character from comics in my head.
I loved that we saw a bit of Cilla and Boyd and how they were doing. Overall, the story was good. The investigation part wasn't that impressive or exciting. After all, nobody got hurt.
P.S If Gage was a prototype for Roarke and Gage was an ex cop....poor Roarke.
