This was definitely difficult to read. Not a feel good novel, of course I knew that going into it! I like my share of dark novels, I don't mind some disturbing content. This however wasn't the typical abduction books I read, usually when we have a female that is captured, she finds pleasure eventually with the captor. Kelsey NEVER enjoys what is being done to her, the rape is constant and the dude is fricken creepy obsessed (not in a good way). 90% of the book was pretty depressing, I personally didn't see any silver lining till the end. But hey some people may have liked it, I didn't hate it.. it just made me unhappy.. :(

What a surprising book. In the beginning, I just wasn't sure if this was going to be a book for me, but the next thing I knew I was almost halfway done with it, and it became a page turner!

James works at a bank, hard working, loyal to his job. He's handsome "in a nerdy sort of way".



Kelsey is the new girl. Pretty, sweet, funny, and his obsession.



James is watching her, and he likes what he sees. He fantasizes about her, so much so that he wants to ask her out, but is afraid that being her boss she may turn him down.

During an after work happy hour, fate steps in and an opportunity presents itself that is hard for James to turn down and he ends up kidnapping Kelsey.

Yes, seems like a million and one other stories, but this is Claire Thompson! She spins it, as usual, in a different way than other authors, a way that keeps you reading until the next thing you know you've finished the book.

Her descriptions of Kelsey as she spirals down, how she loses herself, are pure Clair Thompson. Just when you relax with the book, there is another surprise to keep you on the edge or your seat.



The downside to this book is James.. I can't really describe it, the character seemed so weak to me, even though he is cruel and at times vicious. This would have been a better book if James had been stronger. Mentally, not physically. But that may also have been exactly what Ms. Thompson wanted him portrayed as.

I started and finished this book in about a half a day, so it's a quick one.

There are evil people in this world. There are people with evil intent that can manage their desires and some of those people through unexpected circumstances, make bad choices that continuously compound upon themselves. This is such a story about how a self-centered jealous boss, lusting after one of his employees, takes extreme advantage of a situation. Ends up kidnapping her and forcefully trying to compel obedience and submissiveness. One risks losing her mind while the other becomes lost in his depraved need to make her his doting wife. Be warned there are triggers.

Yeah no sorry, but I'm gonna have to be the black sheep and rate this a two. I like the plot and the story was good. However I am not a fan of the C word. You know cunt. I hate it with a passion, but the plot was just that interesting for me to stick around and put up with it. However that is still a factor in my rating. The excessive use of that word was ridiculous and I won't be reading anything else from this author. Also towards the end the book got too cliche.

So anyways the book was good. This guy was truly delusional, but I like that and I like that Kelsey put up a fight throughout the book and tried to get her freedom back.

I normally want the heroine to fall for her captor but with this book I was kind of glad she didn't. Though I don't think the epilogue was called for really. It was like some little side, bonus story, novella thing that after her ordeal she found love and shock it was with the guy who saved her. Too cliche and predictable. Should have stopped at chapter fifteen and left it alone and go back to edit out all the C words you used.

I must admit though what James did was a shocker. He really did feel bad for what he did but at the same time he did not want to pay for his crime.

This is an obsessive/dark/kidnaped/non-con erotica. This NOT a romance... see that there are no tags as romance. This is not love. Again, I just wished the guy was more sexy. I'm glad that she got helped- would have been nice if she had gotten revenge- although I have seen that Ms. Thompson has that in another book that she wrote. Looking forward to that one. Until then, I need to read a little more darkness before I wade back into the light. Thank you, Ms. Thompson, for allowing me to wander in the dark for a little while. :)

I was a bit nervous about reading this book, and wasn't entirely sure I wanted to - but I'm so glad I did. This was a Claire Thompson non-consensual abduction story with a twist. What Kelsey went through was horrific and her feelings of fear and anger were believable, but we also got James point of view which made this story unique. The ending was as satisfying as it was unexpected, all in all a very engrossing story.

Deeply dark and twisted story....

James wasn’t an H. He was a complete psychopath with a serious obsession. His treatment of Kelsey was hard to read, but her strength made you want to see how her story ends. I was disappointed that this turned out to not be a romance, but if your looking for a truly dark story, and can stomach abuse it’s an ok read.

Finally a realistic heroine instead of the usual tstl doormats ! For once, here is a heroine with an actual spine, smart enough not to get brainwashed with the usual dumb bdsm whatever buzzwords and twisted thinking of every other book with dubious or questionable plot which try to blur more or (more often than not) less successfully the issue of consent and make me roll my eyes with the heroine unrealistically falling for her "not so bad after all" (but completely inconsistent as a character) captor.
I found the ending (not the epilogue, which I didn't care much for) fitting and satisfactory and I liked the fact that the bad guy didn't get glorified in any way. He was downright creepy and a psycho with just the right amount of humanity left in the end. I liked that I consistently hated him, just like the heroine, because he is not lovable nor likeable. In that sense, the author wrote him well, deeply flawed the way he is meant to be, without trying to sugarcoat anything or give him redeeming qualities (which would have been inconsistent/out of character and would have ruined the narrative). In a way he was also much more believable than the same old tired alpha dom that supposedly know what's best that populate romance or so-called dark books nowadays : sensitive and selfish enough to think he "loves" her and justify his delusions/obsession in a realistic way, but also violent and repulsive enough to not be sexy or even remotely attractive.

Sometimes, smart people aren't smart at all!

James had been pining for his employee from the day he first saw her. Deciding she would be his, one night!

Well, perhaps a few dates first may have helped his cause!

His love became a twisted! Kelsey paying the price!

Thank goodness her parents did not give up. Nor did the PI hired to find her!

Kelsey's strength is something to be admired! Michael's patience as well!

I loved the strength that Kelsey showed in the face of everything she faced. The fact that she hung into her will made the story. Everytime her captor pushed her too far, she pushed back!

Well my intentions were to push my limits... This book certainly did it! It's really non-con. Although instead of the more graphic torture scenes from other books by this author the tortures here were a little less descriptive but not less brutal.

This is a realistic story about kidnapping, torture and abuse. It is not one of the victim falls for captor type story. This was a heartbreaking read that does not sugarcoat rape or abuse like other novels.

Non con. James the abductor was very reactive and not that savvy. The whole kidnapping was a disaster waiting to happen. James did grow a conscience. The epilogue was horrible and ruined the story for me. Michael, the PI who found Kelsey, was predatory in his own way in developing a relationship with her.
