The small size of the book meant that the color reproductions weren't as stunning as they could have been (particularly when one painting took two pages) and the book is old enough that it's not particularly PC in its writing. On the other hand, the biographical information was concise and presented a more well-rounded view of their lives than I had previously seen. In addition, I learned about an important collection of Soutine paintings in America: the Barnes Foundation, in Philadelphia.

slim book without a lot of background insight but a decent visual overview and bio of each of the 'tragic' artist from Paris' Moulin Rouge district at the height of the neighborhood's golden era

I'm a sucker for Modigliani style
