Dracula invades the North Pole in order to obtain Ol' Saint Nick's ability to enter any home. Too bad one thing is standing in his way: Santa Claus and the forces of Christmas! Now it's Vampires vs. Elves! Werewolves vs. Reindeer! and Naughty vs. Nice in an all out, epic battle of the ageless for the ages! SANTA VS. DRACULA! This time ... It's Seasonal!
There'll be blood on the snow as beloved holiday icons fight it out with classic monsters in this festive graphic novel.
Dracula is invading the North Pole, and it's up to Santa to stop him!
And the battle is on! Fur will fly! (Not to mention ninja throwing "snowflakes" and tiny elf limbs!) Who will win the ultimate WAR ON CHRISTMAS?
Ready for some reindeer games, sucka?
This frenzied holiday fantasy showcases gorgeous artwork, and though the story packs a healthy dose of yuletide violence, it is leavened with witty tidbits:
--When a witch is dispatched by a tossed beer, she cries, "Help me! I'm MALTING!"
--Dracula vows vengeance on the woman who created the "Twilight" books.
--The leader elf's battle cry? "LET'S GET TOLKIEN ON THEIR ASSES!"
While I was not completely wild about the ending, there are two epilogues. The second offers up a slightly brighter forecast and features some awesomely tricked out holiday mascots.
Please, oh, please . . . let this one be the sequel!
Dracula gets another notch on his list of all the other people - historical, fictional, and mythological - he's duked it out with. There wasn't a whole lot to this one, I found: not too well-drawn or written, just another one with all the myths being real and hanging out together and being nothing especially interesting or well-done, but at least it read quickly and had a couple semi-highlights, jokes, and character moments.
When Dracula realizes that Santa can go into any house whenever he wants, he launches an all-out war on Father Christmas and all his holiday allies. What follows is a witty, goofy, knock-down, drag-out brawl. It’s Frosty vs. Frankenstein’s monster! It’s Igor vs. Mrs. Claus! It’s elves vs. emo vamp kids! While the story arc is pretty shallow, the comic does exactly what you’d expect. There are lots of funny quips and clever ideas (such as Santa’s security force being called the “Silent Knights”). Power and Dejesus even set up the comic for a sequel. Well worth a read.
This is such a fun and goofy premise and the creators did a great job with it. The tone is perfect and there was such an interesting cast of characters. The backstories were all facinating, but I wish there had been more of them. With that ending, though, it's possible we'll get more in the (hopefully forthcoming) second volume.
