"4.5 stars" Hard Drive is a short little e-book quickie, so there isn't a lot to the story. It's mostly about a computer geek and a beautiful real estate agent who discover a deep attraction for one another when she brings her computer into his store for repair. As with another short story I read by this author, I thought Ms. Kirk did a great job of building some decent character development in such a short space. I adore geeky heroes and Carlos definitely is one. He lives, eats, sleeps and breathes computers, which is just like a certain hubby I know.;-) Not only is Carlos intelligent, he also owns his own successful business even though it isn't what his parents would have wished for him. I completely understood why he would question Dana's intentions when he found out about her side job. Geeks like him rarely get the beautiful girls, so it would be natural for him to be suspicious. Carlos was a sweet, gentle guy with a sexy, sensuous side that I loved, and I have to give Ms. Kirk kudos for writing a true geek. Dana was a nice heroine too. I loved that she was attracted to Carlos from the start and had always wanted him for herself, not her side business. She seemed to understand his doubts though and did her best to put them to rest.

This short story takes place in only a few days time, so there are no unrealistic declarations of love and commitment, merely an acknowledgement that they are a good match and would continue seeing one another. I personally felt that the author created enough of an emotional connection between Carlos and Dana to make me believe that they were meant for each other and would make it for the long haul. They just seemed to have a strong mutual respect and good chemistry. The one love scene was hot and sensuous, not quite what I would call erotic, but it did contain a couple of explicit words I rarely see in more mainstream contemporaries. I also appreciated that the author seems to have a good grasp on the technical aspects of writing. In all honesty, I'm not sure why Hard Drive has such low ratings. I personally enjoyed it thoroughly, and after two winners in a row, I'm really looking forward to trying more of Ambrielle Kirk's work.

Multicultural erotica romance. 38 pages (short story length).

A quick read which does not embarrass itself by delving in too deep into either the hero's or heroine's day-job (computer repair and real estate respectively) - I've seen both the highly technical and highly regulated jobs just be totally ridiculous in a story when written by people who did not do the research; the author took the safe choice in this short story by not going into their occupations. The computer repair gives the story a short "shelf-life" before becoming outdated.

The characters dance around each other before the final erotica get-together; only one sex scene. Not sure it is worth the journey. Overall the story is weak, each scene (four chapters) feels like a stand-alone story with the same characters, except when

A quick read with a black female heroine, but other books are better.

Honestly a one shot read to be honest, could be finished in a day if you want. This was pretty brief and to the point. There’s a tiny bit of back story and such for the leads which is nice but, not too important.

There’s a few analogies/metaphors that I didn’t like, especially that kind of ruined a bit of the climax (pun intended) for me, but other than that, this was short, simple and cute.

I leaned a little too hard into the “nerd” stereotype and I was waiting for more dominant vibes from the MLI but, it kinda fell flat since the MC ended up kind of telling him what to do lowkey. All in all, nice for something quick and light to read in between heavier books.

Oh, yum. I love a good computer-geek-takes-control-of-his-woman story and this one does not disappoint. It’s a quick read but the characters are well developed and when the sex steams onto the pages near the end, the reader is certainly invested in them and ready to vicariously live their naughty moment.

I actually read this book while at the mechanics, waiting for my car to get new tyres. Within minutes the greased, shirtless hunks lugging heavy chunks of metal and rubber around the place were upstaged by bi-focal wearing, self-confessed nerd, Carlos. He was great, a neat-freak boffin that had a deliciously hesitant demeanor and I could ‘so’ see what Dana saw in him.

Dana too was a great character. I enjoyed her POV immensely and her surprise in the middle was a nice little twist on the journey to their HEA.

Best Bits: “Dana was everything he’d never had and could only imagine being within two feet of.” Ahh. Bless him.

The whole last scene with the desk :)

“You’re operating system is slow to start up – that’s one indication that something isn’t quite right.” Maybe it was just me, but all the computer references seemed to have suggestive under-currents. Mm, yep, maybe that’s just my naughty mind!

Verdict: Perfect if you are looking for a quick, steamy read that will tick all the boxes. There’s a nice little bit of control play, good characters and the writing style is very visual and satisfying. I recommend Hard Drive and will be searching out more by this author.

Carlos is a computer geek and entrepreneur, who has become familiar with being overlooked by the opposite sex. Restoring computers has been his niche since the age of twelve. Although his family thinks he should have a higher status quo, Carlos is pleased with his life except for one aspect; he’s a loner. From the moment he laid eyes on the mysterious female, he was captivated by her beauty.

Dana crosses paths with Carlos when her computer becomes infected with a virus. Being a real estate agent she possesses the take charge persona and is willing to relinquish the power to the right man. Not bashful to peruse his physique she leaves Carlos wondering “what if”.

Stepping out of his comfort zone, Carlos enjoys dinner with Dana until she reveals her side job. Assuming the worst of the situation, he abruptly leaves her and his credit card at the restaurant. Taking the necessary time to think things through, Dana proves her attraction was genuine.

If you are looking for something to read to assist in unwinding after a long day, then Hard Drive by Ambrielle Kirk is perfect. I love how the author develops Carlos’s character from the shy computer geek to a take control confident man. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Kirk’s work.

Hard Drive by Ambrielle Kirk
* I received a copy of this book from Breathless Press in exchange for an honest review*

Carlos is a typical computer “nerd”. He is more comfortable behind the computer than talking to people, especially the women. After graduating college, he opened his own computer store. He spends hours there but puts very little effort into his social life. He doesn’t know how to react when a beautiful woman starts flirting with him.

Dana ends ups at Carlos’ computer store when her laptop contracts a virus. She can’t believe her luck that not only is the computer guy smart, he is sexy too. She runs a matchmaking service on the side and can’t believe that she may have found her own mate in Carlos.

Carlos is quiet, shy and lacks self confidence. He hides behind his computers to avoid relationships. He is stunned that Dana is flirting with him. He decides for once in his life he is going to take a chance and go for it.

This may be a short story but there is no shortage of sexiness. Carlos and Dana are very hot together, especially the scene at the end. I do love good make up sex.

Overall I give Hard Drive 3 Flaming Hearts.
