The Fourth Monkey: An Untold History of the Lyme Disease Epidemic

Rate this book
See No Evil. Hear No Evil. Speak No Evil. But Do No Evil. When worlds collide, mankind is caught in the middle. Mutant organisms, infectious diseases, contaminated foods, polluted soils and waters, transgenic animals, GM crops, recombinant vaccines, and man-made life forms are all part of today’s world of biotechnology. New epidemics have arisen such as Lyme disease, HIV/AIDS, Diabetes, Arthritis, MS, ALS, Chronic Fatigue, and Fibromyalgia which were unheard of just a half century ago. What is causing the emergence of new diseases? To understand current trends, we must examine the past 150 years of man’s attempt to improve his environment using chemistry and biotechnology tools. Today we find new mutant organisms, diseases with “unknown” cause, and microbes that have never before existed. We also find diseases thought long gone returning with a mysterious vengeance. What could be changing the face of the planet from the smallest microbes to the largest creatures? Will extinct species rise again in the form of insecticides meant to kill pest insects? What has upset the balance of nature and may be leading us toward an unstoppable future? Explore the history of today’s technologies and the very real possibility that they may have heralded most of the modern diseases of our day, from Lyme disease to those without a name. Enter a world where diseases are ignored, patients are vilified, and some infectious diseases cannot even be detected by the best laboratory tests. Detecting the undetectable pathogens is the first step to treating diseases of today. Learn what your doctor doesn’t even know about one of the most common infections in the world. You may have Lyme disease and not even know it. If you do, this book could be the first step toward getting the help you will need in a medical arena that is highly political, and emotionally charged. This book boldly challenges what we thought we knew about Lyme disease and the origins of other infectious diseases!
