Lela Buckingham and Maribeth Flaws have developed the most comprehensive text available for the study of molecular diagnostics in the clinical laboratory setting. "Molecular Diagnostics" will give your students the background they need to understand the principles behind diagnostic tests that use molecular techniques. With its grounding in molecular biology and emphasis on the fluid nature of this topic as improved diagnostic technologies emerge, this text is the perfect balance between theory and application.
I used this book to study for a couple of board exams successfully (ABCC and ABB). As a molecular diagnostics professional I highly recommend this. It will not go in deep depth for all aspects of molecular diagnostics but certainly it will form a strong background for molecular biology/techniques with some advanced concepts. It certainly is a great start and has multitude of good questions to help you with understanding concepts.
A very good and comprehensive review of molecular diagnostics as a general introduction for people of all levels. Definitive reference for non-doctoral laboratory professionals. A go-to reference for ASCP-MB study prep. Fixing the fair number of typos for the next edition will give it five stars.
This is as much a reference book as a textbook. The advanced concepts sections are particularly helpful. It should come in hardbound because it's getting some serious mileage.
