We are first and foremost a spirit living in a natural body - learning to see, hear and access the spirit realm and its principles. Learning to live life through the eyes of the spirit is transforming and freeing. Living from the Unseen reveals that we can live life through the eyes of the spirit and with an awareness of the spiritual realities and principals that affect our everyday lives. This is a book that shares insights on how to obtain a transformed life through renewing the mind. Wendy's journey, and these insights, are meant for those Christians who intuitively know there is more to "walking in the Spirit" than traditionally understood by the Church. This book will also help Christians who are tired, discouraged, hopeless or hungering for their destiny and identity to be fully developed and released. This book will help identify beliefs that block the reception of God’s blessings and hinder our ability to live out our destiny. You will learn * Believing differently, not trying harder, is the key to change. * You cannot do what you don't believe you are. * You can only receive what you think you are worth.* Rather than learning how to die – it is time to learn how to live.
I bought this book on Amazon because a group at my church was reading it. It sounded interesting, and I had never read anything by Wendy Backlund prior to this book. I really liked the cover, and I was surprised at the size of the book. I found a lot of useful and wonderful information in very few pages.
I really like that the chapters are so short in this book. The topic is covered, and Wendy gives examples from her own life of what she previously believed and what she did to encourage transformation in her life. There were times when I thought the words could have been written by me because I have the same thoughts that she had. I definitely identified with her writing and thoughts she had when she viewed the world through the natural eye.
At the end of each chapter, there is an application section. Wendy asks the reader to think about his or her own life and how the topic personally relates to him or her. Sometimes she asks the reader to write something down, but she always asks the reader to ask God for help in transforming the mind in the given area. At the end there is a declaration, which reminds me of “the power of positive thinking,” but in a supernatural, spiritual way. I have typed these declarations, and I try to read them out loud every day.
I really enjoyed this book. One of my favorite quotes in the book is a message from God to Wendy. He told her, “Who you want to be is who you really are. That is why you want to be that way” (page 55). That quote inspires me to be more confident, joyful, and hopeful. In other words, we want to be who God uniquely made us to be. This is a book that I will re-read slowly in order to get the most benefit out of it. I really love that the chapters are short because it will make the second (third, fourth, etc.) read easier to do when I already have a busy schedule. On a scale of 1-5, I would give this book a 4.5. It is an excellent read.
Anyone who wants more of God and the supernatural in their life will enjoy this book. It walks the reader through how to work with the Spirit to transform negative thought patterns and have a correct understanding of his or her identity in Christ. Personally, I have a lot of transforming to do, and I’m looking forward to seeing big changes in my life. How about you?
This book will lead to life changes if the homework at the end of each chapter is worked on. I say “worked on,” because it’s not a “one and done” book. It’s probably more of a lifetime book. I just finished reading this book, and I am getting ready to read it again immediately. The first time through was to get the big picture. This time, I am going to ponder on it, absorb it, and talk to Holy Spirit about it more than I did the first time through. It might take me several months to finish, but it is ok to spend lots of time with lifetime books.
This book begins with the false premise that the spirit is the only thing that lives forever (this premise is Biblically inaccurate). From that premise we begin a deep dive into Wendy's personal revelations/experiences as proof that those experiences/revelations should also be the reader's. Living from the "unseen" goes beyond the Romans 8 message of being "led by the Spirit (Holy Spirit aka Literally God) and be led by YOUR spirit. There is very little separation with what is YOUR spirit and the Holy Spirit and each chapter ends with a self-focused declaration about what "I" can and will do.
I take no issue with being sensitive to the Holy Spirit, but nowhere in this book did it speak on submission of will. No where in the BIBLE can I find this ultra-focus on spirit/spiritual experiences. In fact, most of the NT is warning against sensationalism. Paul is VERY cautious to even claim his supernatural experiences, but Christians today can't wait to write a book, wrap it in a bow, and tell everyone.
I was underlining this book on the first page. And most chapters I had to read twice to get them into my head and heart--not b/c they were difficult to understand but b/c they were SO GOOD.
I'm really ready to pick it up again and go thru it slowly and really meditate, practice and talk to God about each of these ideas. I'd say bottom line, this book is about renewing your mind and living from your spirit, instead of your mind, will and emotions.
Absolutely and definitely worth a prayerful slow read.
Excellent book! I'm working on rewiring my brain from a secular sourced program. This is such a perfect adjunct to it with a Christian perspective. I am a licensed mental health professional and a certified brain health coach...this is such a power packed book on the power of our beliefs, thoughts, imaginations in concert with the Word of God. I will be reading again and reviewing. It's a small easy read. So powerful and worth your time. Each chapter ends with an application and declaration which I loved.
This Book is perfect for those looking for quick, practical tips for living a life of walking by faith, not by sight. This Book is especially great for those who need a quick read each day and a way to start applying what you've learned right away. I recommend The Vail by Blake Healy for a more detailed narrative approach.
Beautifully written with concise language that gets the point across quickly so that we begin to engage the truths that Wendy Backlund reminds us of... or that she points out that we've never quite connected the dots about in like manner! Highly recommend to increase your intimacy with our unseen God, and wonderful friend, Jesus.
I liked this book and there are many good nuggets for Christian growth. However, my favorite section and the one that God used to speak to me more directly was the Fourth Reflection, Godly Imaginations: Fix Your Eye, Dimensions of the Mind, and Attaching Faith. It was this last portion of the book that was the pot of gold at the end of God's rainbow.
This book has incredibly practical insight on the subject of renewing your mind. Wendy has been on this journey for probably decades and the simple wisdom she brings is life-changing. Highly recommended.
I enjoyed this book and will read it again to take notes. Wendy Backlund is really a good writer, her other book was a real good read. Her husband has a good book on declaration to make. I think I like anything from staff at Bethel church in Redding CA.
This is going to take several read throughs. Wendy shares several revelations that she received. Simple. Concise. All from the Bible. It brings clarity in several areas and opens us to the unseen. We belong to the kingdom and live by different rules. It's time to learn and adjust.
Great book filled with practical strategies to increase you faith
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking at their Christian Life and saying something is missing, I'm not living the life I should be based on the promises of God.
I'm coming out of darkness into His marvelous light and this book is leading the way. Thank you sincerely Ms. Backlund. Life will be greater for me in 2023 because of your spirit and revelations in His word
Such exciting revelations in each section. Changing your mindset to change your reality isn't that new of a concept to me. But hearing it from a Godly perspective, and showing how scriptures support it was very powerful for me.
Recommended to me by a neighbor I love! A bit jarring at first but I really really loved this book & felt like I learned a lot. I imagine I will be going back to it for a very long time!
There are not enough stars available to worthily rate this book. Although I dont agree with every statement, this book contains strengthening nourishment.
