Moving to Shadow Hills was supposed to be the start of a new life for Lachlan MacAuley, and for a while, the sleepy little town provided exactly what he’d been seeking. His debut novel had soared to the top of the bestseller charts, and each subsequent book only boosted his popularity. Though he had more imaginary friends than real ones, he was happy, finally living his dream as a published author.
Then, in one tragic moment, everything changed.
Xeno knows the rules. He knows the risks of bringing a human into his world, but when he meets Lachlan at the local coffeehouse, he can’t deny there’s something between them. The connection goes deeper than mere physical attraction, though, and more than anything, he wants to mend the broken author and help to pick up the shattered remains of his life. So many obstacles stand between them and their happy ending, but if they can learn to lean on one another, believe they can trust again, it may just be a holiday they’ll never forget.
Zayne Michaels is a small-town girl who grew up and ran off to the big city. She currently resides in the Midwest where she spends her days dreaming up dark, sexy adventures in between soccer games and the never-ending pile of laundry.
Zayne's fascination with old and discarded treasures has always been a source of inspiration for her tales. From antique clocks to old, dilapidated houses, her imagination turns to the "what ifs" and "what used to bes."
Maybe this love for the abandoned is why she is a firm advocate of second chances, or perhaps she's just a little crazy. Whatever the reason, Zayne believes everyone chooses their own path, creates their own destiny, and is the author of their own story.
This story starts out strong, Lachlan is a gay romance writer ( I wonder how the author came up with that idea? lol) but and accident a year ago has changed his life completely. He isn't able to find inspiration for more books, he's financially strapped, he suffers from nightmares and can't sleep, he's in constant physical pain and fear has him limiting his life and time out of his apartment. Then he meets Xeno, the new barista at his regular coffee shop and things start to look up. For some reason Xe is interested in him and his creative juices start flowing again.
Then it sort of went down hill for me, I mean I like the mate-mine-claim-growl-bite as much as the next girl, probably more actually, but when it has such an interesting human with all kinds of issues and an unusual shifter as well, and it just goes down the usual much (over) used road to the ending..sigh. Too bad, it could have been awesome.
The thing I like most about this story is that it's different. It's new and it's different. Yes...werewolves have been done time and time again. It's nice to have a new twist to them. And then the human aspect to this book. The roadblocks that Lachlan suffers -- writer's block, healing severe physical trauma.
The story that Michaels presents is one that I could actually happening. I mean, how many of us believe that there's more out there. How would it affect you to find out that at least some of what you've read about, heard about, or studied is true? Well, this is Lachlan's story. And it's good...really good.
Ghostwriter is a fun, sweet, and refreshing read. I loved it.
Ghostwriter by author Zayne Michaels is the second book in the Once Upon a Midnight Moon series. These books do not have to be read in order to understand them. The characters are all different and do not overlap at all. In Ghostwriter we meet the moody and sensitive Lachlan MacAuley. He is a complicated character. I love his spirit and drive. He makes me cheer for him and want him to find love and his muse again. His fears and flaws make him a real character that has my heart. There were times he made me laugh and cry as his story unfolded. If you were to ask Lachlan to describe himself he would say he was a broken awkward nerd with no much to offer anyone lucky for him Xeno doesn’t agree with him at all. Xeno is unlike any character I have met before. When you find out exactly what he is you will see what I mean. I love this unexpected twist on a paranormal you think you know. Xeno is such a fan of Lachlan’s work. He reminds me of myself, total fan of his favorite author down to gushing and nerves. Xeno is full of life, love and compassion a character I truly didn’t want to stop reading about. Ms Michaels does an amazing job of bringing me the reader into this story making me feel so connected that I never wanted it to end. I love the emotional connection I had to the characters, the love I felt jumping off the pages and the hotter than sin sex that is the icing on a story I will not soon forget. This book is going on my keeper shelf. If you love to fall in love and want a story you can feel very connected too Ghostwriter is the story to pick up.
I really liked this story but there are things in it that are hard to get over, beyond the authors obsessive love for the word however. there are many grammatical errors and for a few pages xenos name is messed up so it reads.. Lachlan jumped up and raced to Lachlan. that continued for a few pages. the idea was great though...
Well, I definitely agree that there were typos (like 'you're' instead of 'your', etc.) as well as character name mix-ups, but despite all that I really enjoyed it. This interested me enough to go check out some other works from this author.
