Evan Arden #3

Otherwise Unharmed

Rate this book
After Evan Arden was imprisoned by the enemy for a year and a half, he returned from the desert as a military hero. He’d suffered some minor injuries during his captivity, was discharged from the Marines with just a touch of shellshock, but was considered otherwise unharmed. Now he wonders how he ended up where he is now – incarcerated in Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center for using his sharpshooting expertise to take out the neighborhood park with a high-powered sniper rifle and multiple rounds of ammunition. Lia Antonio, the woman he rescued from the desert heat the previous year, is the only person who can bring him out of his sleep-deprived psychosis and mounting PTSD. When she does, Evan knows he can’t just let her go again. He’s never considered leaving the business before – who retires from the mafia? – but he’s determined to get both Lia and himself out of harm’s way. Evan faces forces from multiple directions as a deal to get him out of jail turns more deadly and dangerous than he ever could have imagined. With a three-way mob war on the horizon and the feds holding evidence over his head, Evan has no choice but to throw himself into the middle of another war-zone. In his efforts to make things right in his own mind, Evan crosses the wrong man and finds himself on the business end of the cross-hairs. With his observation skills and intelligence, he tries to keep a step ahead of his former co-workers, but this time, it isn’t just his own life on the line – he’s got to protect Lia from the man who once called him son.

What brought me to that point, that moment? The question was more metaphorical. I hadn't started off so bad, so how did I end up where I was today? Raised in a convent by a bunch of nuns, emancipated at seventeen, and left to my own devices, I had joined the marines so I could serve my country as one of the best snipers ever trained. I was field promoted to Lieutenant in the middle of a firefight. All in all, not the worst start in life. But then I'd lost my entire unit to insurgents, was taken prisoner, and tortured for a year and a half.

Otherwise Unharmed by Shay Savage is hands down my favourite book from the Evan Arden Trilogy!

The last installment(I think)is a direct follow up to the events that happened in Otherwise Occupied (book 2) We find Evan Arden locked up, trying to work through what pushed him to react the way he did in the last book. He's become a shell of the man he once was, only one person can ground him, allow him to live again.

Lia is his redemption, the one woman who is able to fight the monsters trying to destroy him from the inside.

If you found yourself missing the romance in Otherwise Occupied, you can rest assured that with Lia's return the steam level rose to outstanding proportions (pun intended)

Evan and Lia's chemistry had me fanning myself!!! That being said the romance wasn't the only side to the story. It's set against a mafia backdrop, it has all the makings of an awesome mob story. It's all about money, power and territory.

To be honest I can't find one thing I didn't like about this story. I am a very satisfied read right now!

Background FBI politics, mafia wars, fighting for your sanity and for the safety of the loved one. Otherwise Unharmed is thrilling page-turner and perfect conclusion to this unforgettable trilogy!

My Evan and Lia:

SPOILER-FREE REVIEW:
After breakdown Evan Arden suffered in previous book, he finds himself in Chicago's Correction Centre, facing the aftermath of his actions caused by terrible case of PTSD. Will be Lia Antonio able to bring him back from his depressions? And will be Evan capabale of keeping himself and Lia unharmed from mafia as well as from FBI agents?

Shay Savage did it again. She wrote story with deeply flawed narrator whom I had no other choice but love and blew my mind with all that crazy criminal stuff that was happening. Otherwise Unharmed is perfect psychological insight into the head of man who went through hell, did some messed up things himself and lost his sanity, only to be unexpectedly brought back with the help of gentle and loving woman whose life he saved in the past.

Rough and ruthless. Dangerous killer and sexy as hell man. Complex and perfectly written character. That is Evan Arden. There were moments when author made me believe that he was real living person. My heart broke for Evan when I learnt what exactly happened to him while being held captive in Middle East and I was rooting for him from the beginning to the end.

But no matter what was happening, Evan was still super-horny, frustrating and stubborn-self, always doing things his way. I was worried that he would change once he had a woman by his side, but fortunatelly it never happened. There may have been some changes to his lifestyle, but nothing character connected. And since I accepted him and grew to love him the way he was, I was glad he basicaly remained the same.

For those worried about romance aspect, you can relax. Shay Savage covered this part perfectly, steamy parts included, never overdoing anything. There was not a single thing that would bother me, I loved it all and I can say that without the doubt, Evan Arden will always be one of the most memorable characters for me!

This one starts off where the last one finished…. Not sure how Evan was going to talk his way out of this!

Lia is back in his life .....

It is a real page-turner, a thriller. I was rooting for Evan and Lia and Odin the whole time but things happen, the mob isn’t happy, it sure is not plain sailing for them.

“People live and they die, and it doesn’t fucking matter to anyone around them. Whatever happens, happens. People move on, and they’re probably better off because of it.”

ARDEN
EVAN N. USMC
047289
A NEG
CATHOLIC

IF THERE WAS A GOD, HE DIDN’T HAVE ANY LOVE FOR ME SO FUCK HIM

The writing is great, the language is gritty, it is violent, I mean it is a Psychological Thriller so we have to sort of have all those elements.

A lot of the time I am like…..

Just GO, GO, GO….. get out of there…..

“Go ahead, you piece of shit,” I said calmly. My eyes stayed locked with his. “Take a swing. I’ll make sure my bullet doesn’t hit you fatally so you can watch me castrate you with that piece of shit blade. Dick to throat, I ‘ll show you what a cut really looks like and then I’ll slam my fist through your ribacage and fuck the hole I made. What do you think of that?"

Evan is not a nice guy, he is a hitman. So why are we rooting for him, why do we want him to have his HEA. I suppose in one way, it is because I felt he did not have a choice in the type of life he led. His upbringing was unconventional, to say the least, so doubt he was going to end up with a regular 9 to 5 job.

“It’s okay to need someone,” she told me. “Everyone needs someone.”

“I’m not going to hurt you.”

In the first book, we see his vulnerability with Lia and we see his interactions with his dog, Odin. So I knew that under that dark killer there was somebody who could love and be loved and deserved love.

Only thing left to say now is.... "What to read next?"

5 Chicago Mafia Style, Tormented, Miraculous, Loving Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free
Otherwise Unharmed... that is the final chapter of the amazing series by Shay Savage...(Or At Least I Thought It Was!) It is also a phrase used by the military to classify how Evan Arden was once he was released from his captivity as a POW in the Middle East for 18 months. Oh, he had had some physical issues from their torture of him... but "otherwise unharmed" was what was written for his discharge.

Well, if ever there was a deceptive way of saying things
that would be the perfect example because Evan Arden had been harmed to his core, to the very essence of him, and due to this and other harming that had taken place all of his life, he was ripe for his final career choice, Chicago Mafia Hitman

In the last book, we were left with Evan snapping. He lost total control of his structured world where he knew what he was doing; who he was working for; how he lived from day to day.

He had no complications. He had his trusted companion Odin and when he wanted release... that was what hookers were for.

But all that had been confused. He had met Lia... she was his safe haven, his dream, and he didn't understand how to think about her...and it caused him stress.

Stress for him was the enemy and due to his mental state he was having hallucinations... and no sleep at all..... which triggered the cycle of seeing and hearing things from the war...The PTSD causing him to take the rifle and shoot out the parking garage alarm...

This was how he ended up in jail... thinking everything was over, and also cursing God, for once again letting him down for as he was being led away in handcuffs, his Lia was there... She had tracked him down only to see all of his breakdown happen and now he was convinced he was doomed. For there was no way she would want to be with him or even could be with him safely.

This story had me. It owned me. I was balls deep with Evan and his POV. I wanted to know how he was going to get out of this ... how was he ever going to get back with Lia and would she even want to be with him.

I am so full of things to say.... I have to take a moment to collect myself.... gather my thoughts...ok....

The pacing and build up in every part of this book was breath-taking. It was written in such a way, I would cheat and look further down the page to see a little hint of what was next to settle myself... then go to the top of the page and read. The details of the city, places, and people were perfect; you could smell the scent of the pizza or you felt the wind hitting your face from the lake. When he went to a shady location to hide out from the people who were hunting him and Lia... I sensed the fear Lia had... I am telling you... I was right there during this whole experience and many times I found myself white-knuckling it during certain passages.

I can also say the scenes between Lia and Evan should be studied by those who want to write about how people can communicate while still afraid of their feelings. They also connected in a powerful way... sex with them was off the charts... it was rough, hot, sexy and then there was a scene so intense in its beauty... it made me think after how rare it is to read something like that.

These two were equals; Lia did not shy away from Evan; she held his feet to the fire every time, showing how incredibly strong she was. She also was smart and loving; she knew he was for her and he was willing to try for her. She has become one of my favorite women.

So I am strongly suggesting you read this series... there are real issues discussed and used in all the right ways... it has characters which will hold you in the palm of their hand and you will not want them to let go until the whole ordeal is over.

It is so good... I know I will be re-reading this again, soon... as crazy as it may seem... I have developed a little bit of a crush for Evan and his Lia.

Lastly... I also have great affection for Camaro, as we had the best time Buddy Reading this... thanks for all the OMG's and I can't believe this is happenings!

I don't give five star ratings very often, but this book deserves every last one. Evan Arden (and the entire trilogy) is a breathtaking thrill ride that surprised and delighted me at every turn.
((This review is spoiler free but not profanity free))

I cannot bring myself to call this "Romance"... Evan Arden would be perfectly comfortable admitting that he doesn't have a romantic bone in his body... I think "Erotic Suspense with a pinch of Romance" is more appropriate.

After much thought, I realize I am unable to review this book in the usual way.
This book was full of twists, turns, surprises, heartbreak, and edge-of-your-seat action...

My emotions were scattered,
swept up,
stepped on,
loved up,
bruised,
battered,
repaired,
& scattered again...

In the interest of not spoiling anything, I'll simply say,
HERE IS MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS BOOK:

IN CONCLUSION,

Evan Arden...you stole my heart back in the desert.
You scared me back in Chicago.
You made me angrier than I've ever felt with a fictional boyfriend.
You broke my heart when you fell apart.

And now, and now, and now.......You did all of that and more in this book.

_________________________________________

After his meltdown and subsequent arrest, Evan is heavily medicated and placed in jail. His last visions of Lea and his pleading for her to take his dog Odin have stuck with me over the months while I waited for this book to come out. Evan has come across as a cold blooded bastard, that's for sure. But what he actually is is harder to define.

"Lieutenant Evan Arden, Marine sniping expert, brought home with minor injuries and muscle atrophy, but otherwise unharmed"

He's a soldier who fought for our country.
He was held captive and tortured for over eighteen months.
He was brought back to the states and due to his lack of obvious physical wounds, he was pronounced OTHERWISE UNHARMED and sent back into the world, as if nothing had ever happened to him.

Naturally, being tortured for any amount of time would leave a significant impact on a person's psyche. It's no wonder Evan has a hard time coping. He's shut his emotions of just to survive. All of these terrible things he's done, the people he's killed...I hate to say it's forgiveable, because it's not. But it is what it is, and his boss, the leader of the Chicago mafia, is the only constant in Evan's life. He'll do anything for him.

But now, Evan has another reason to live.

"She'd just been a girl, lost in the desert.
She should have meant nothing to me."

It was that one chance encounter with Lea in the desert that snagged him and set his life's course in a tailspin. He isn't the same man that he once was. And now that she's come back into his life, he knows what he has to do.

My Evan and Lea:
"/>

And of course, Odin:

"You have endured so much - far more than any one person should ever have to face - but you kept going"
" I didn't endure it," I replied. "I cracked. I totally lost it."
"Everyone has their breaking point, Evan. That's not bad; that's just being human
(...)
I wanted to remind her of what I had become since then - a cold blooded, merciless killer - but I didn't.
I kissed her instead. Again and again I kissed her because I didn't have any words for what I was feeling."

I'm so happy that I decided to read this series. This kind of broken hero, I love...Evan is NOT all good, and this romance is NOT all happy and hunky dory, everything ends up in marriage and 2.5 kids (haha). BUT...it's a beautifully written and evocative story about a guy who came from nothing, sacrificed EVERYTHING, and finally found something worth living for.

5 Mind Blowing Stars

She would keep me sane, and I would keep her safe

One thing that's running through my mind right now

After I finished this book. I'm ruined. Seriously ruined and feeling a hell of a book hangover coming on. Shay Savage is an incredible story teller, able to write a broken and damaged anti-hero that you can't help but fall completely in love with. It's not every day you find an author that is able to write a book entirely in the male POV and do such an amazing job of it. After the way book 2 ended, I couldn't wait to dive into this one. I devoured it. After the 60% mark, I read it in one sitting.

Otherwise Unharmed was a suspenseful and erotic thriller that will keep you at the edge of your seat with a major case of blue ovary syndrome thrown into the mix. Wow. Just wow.

This book picks up right where Otherwise Occupied left off, with Evan in prison after a manic episode.
How did I get here? I wasn’t stupid. I also wasn’t so far gone to not remember the basics of what happened. After serving my tour of duty as a Marine sniper in the Middle East coupled with eighteen months as a prisoner of war, being exiled to Arizona for screwing up a hit for my mob-boss, spending too much time thinking about the girl I met there, and killing my favorite hooker for betraying me, I’d finally lost it and started shooting up the neighborhood.

Still suffering from nightmares and flashbacks to his time as a POW, his insomnia is at an all time worst. But this time he has something he didn't before, Lia, the woman that he's been unable to put out of his thoughts since his short time in Arizona.
Evan knows that he will not be able to walk away from her this time, and will do anything to keep her safe. But what happens when you put a shell-shocked hitman between a rock and a hard place, putting his loyalty to the test?
Miss Savage definitely saved the best for last with this book.
I fell in lust/love with Evan in book 1. This one just solidified exactly why he's one of my favorite anti-heroes I've read to date.
Fucking you just makes me want more though. I'm trying to see if I can make it to round six before I pass out."
"I'm going to be sore," she said.
"Does that mean you'll feel it all day tomorrow—feel it constantly, no matter what you’re doing, and think about my cock inside you every minute you’re awake?"
Lia's breath quickened, and she stared up at me for a moment before she swallowed hard and nodded her head. "Probably."
"Good." I wrapped my hand around my shaft and drilled into her.

Evan had two sides with Lia. There was the erotic ass-man side. Then there was also the incredibly sweet side.

We also got to see the side that he hides beneath the deadly hit man.
There’s so much shit in my head—shit I can’t unsee or undo. Sometimes it feels like there’s something inside of me just…tearing me up inside and waiting to bust its way out. I think maybe…maybe if I could get that out, then maybe the person I was is still underneath."

I went from having my heart break for him, to feeling like it was going to beat out of my chest with all the twists and turns that took place.

Lia was a great heroine as well. She was the perfect light to Evan's dark. She had just the right amount of backbone to stand up to him, but also just enough vulnerability to endear you to her.

This book was one amazing and erotic thrill ride. Every time I thought I wrapped my mind around what was going, something else would happen that left me completely speechless. Well, speechless in between bousts of screaming "no no no" at my kindle and wanting to cry. Then there was an event at the end that left me devastated.

As for the ending? It was the perfect way to end the trilogy. It was so fitting, that it just made me love this book even more. I couldn't see it being written any other way.
For those wondering if there was a HEA

Holy Crapola!

What an awesome, insanely intense conclusion to this trilogy! I love Evan Arden okay? I loved everything about his journey.

But what I loved the most about this trilogy was that over the course of all the books here, there was never a moment of contrived stupidity. Nothing that would induce the dreaded eye roll either. All books in this trilogy were done superbly. You have the intensity of characters, plot, heart, suspense, fear, love, and all things erotic. And it all blends well. In EVERY. SINGLE. BOOK. And I must say this final book here, did not leave me wanting at all. I honestly can't see how anyone would not enjoy this trilogy. It has everything in it. And all things are placed precisely where they should be.

Everything ties in nicely & comes to a solid close regarding all things you come to learn about, over the course of this trilogy. It's awesome. It's hot. It's heartbreaking & frightening. And it's waiting for you to pick it up.

My heart is breaking that I must now say goodbye to Evan
😭😭😭😭

I would highly recommend this trilogy. Please read in order.

3.5 hit-man stars! Rounded it up to 4 since the series as a whole is a good read. The ending while it was a happy one felt anti-climatic, I would've liked the suspense and final confrontation between Evan and the bad guy(s) to be more paced out + I wanted to see Rinaldo take out Grecco and the Russian mob But oh well.

A minor thing that I found irritating was the female love interest. Every time Evan told her to do something important "What?" was always her response, it made her seem like a complete idiot.

Five Suspenseful, Action-packed Stars!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

My name is Evan Arden. I've had a shit life, orphaned as a child, raised by an abusive nun, joined the military to be a Saudi POW for 18 months...lotsa baggage my head carries. I'm serious fucked up, can't sleep, see things that aren't there, but my life as a hit-man for one of Chicago's most prominent mafia families isn't so bad. Love my Barretta, love the hunt, the kill. But I had no idea the woman, Lia was her name, that I spent time in the desert fucking like bunnies, would affect me the way she has. When I set eyes on her again all those months later, EVERYTHING changed...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

My name is Lia Antonio. I've searched and finally caught up with the man that rocked my universe in that cabin in the desert of Arizona. But I think I'm a bit late... He's gone off the deep end apparently, being arrested for an apparent PTSD breakdown resulting in him shooting up a park. That torturous look in his eyes when the police led him away. The least I can do is watch his dog Odin until he gets help and is released. But is there more I can do? Everything says stay away from this man but I can't....

Serious fan-girling here for Shay Savage. I was hooked on her first book Surviving Raine, so I knew this wouldn't disappoint! She has an uncanning ability to tell the story of an anti-hero, adding endearing qualities and some comedy that makes you fall 100% in love with him. Evan murders people for a living and I LOVED him. He's so emotionally scarred from his childhood years and brutal beatings/captivity during his years as a POW, I can forgive him ANYTHING. Lia Antonio makes him want to change, to break away from that only father he's known, his mafia boss. But people don't just "quit" the mafia...they don't take two-week notices. He's got to do whatever he can to get Lia away from this life of his. It's not safe but he needs her...with her, he sleeps. He's never had feelings for a woman except lust but she's...different. But can he escape the Chicago mafia?

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

The book is edge-of-your-seat action and suspense. You try to figure out what's going to happen but she sets it up where, until the very end, you come out saying, "Well, I didn't see THAT coming!" The book has a long storyline relating to the mafia and him trying to "retire" to be able to move on and heal with Lia. But there's things he's got to do to make a clean break. The book has to be experienced and I'm not giving a thing away! It'll make you cringe at times, heart race, chuckle in endearing moments and will make you cry... I am not a crier. I cried at one event in the end. Oh my Lordy, that scene...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

So, if you're up for an action packed story that plays like an HD movie in your head, this one delivers!

"I'm not going to hurt you."

The long awaited conclusion to Evan Arden Trilogy was all that I expected and even more. So I know I say this with each book, but its the absolute truth that Shay Savage writes some of the best male characters. Living in the tortured, highly sexual mind of Evan was thrilling and intense.

Evan Arden

Killer,
Hit Man,

Man on the run

The Plot
At the end of Otherwise Occupied Evan is in a really bad place both mentally and physically. He's unable to sleep and the demons from his past are his constant companion. Someone else from his past is also there for him: Lia Antonio. She's been constantly on his mind and finally she's in flesh and bone in front of him. Lia provides Evan with peace and respite he badly needs. He's unable to sleep unless he's wrapped in Lia's arms, and she promises to be there for him. Evan is pulled on two sides. Should he go with the deal from the federal agents who visit him, or should he wait and allow his mob boss to work a deal out from him?

Lia Antonio
description
"She was everything I needed, and I was fucking poison to her. I'd known it since the beginning, but I'd been to selfish to push her away."

Lia is the glue that holds Evan together, and his shelter from his world that is crumbling all around him. She stuck by her man throughout the book. She deserves the girlfriend of the year award. I'm not sure if I would've put up with all the threats, moving, and danger as she did. I felt the deep connection between these two. Even though they were separated for a while, they never forgot each other, and Lia was not willing to let Evan go, she even went so far as to track him down.
"I don't want to hurt you," I said. "I do want to fuck the ever-loving shit out of you."

My Thoughts
Halfway through I had no idea how this would end. I've never wanted a character to have a HEA more than Evan, even after all the bad things he's done I was still rooting for him. Through the series Evan's character remained the same steadfast cold-blooded killer. I love that he didn't become a sap in love, or develop an all of a sudden conscience. Shay remained true to the character readers met in book one. Evan and Lia's reunion was sweet and heartbreaking. I loved that we got answers, and learned more about Lia, and why she was wandering alone in the desert the first time she met Evan.

description

There were revelations, action, double crossing, lies, murders and danger in abundance. Shay Savage managed to keep it all believable and within reasonable proportions, never shoving too much at readers at once. In addition to all this, we saw a softer side to Evan that was not present in the other books. He never really had any one he cared about besides Odin, and in a twisted way Bridgette, but in this book Evan's emotions and steadfast commitment to Lia shines through. They are one or two things he did that made me want to slap him, but overall this was an enjoyable read.

description

Fans of this author and this trilogy will bask in the intensity of Shay's writing, and enjoy the satisfactory, conclusion to Evan and Lia's story. This was without a doubt a wonderful satisfactory ending to a fast paced, heart pounding, action-packed series. Shay I'm your newest fan stalker A time jump epilogue or novella featuring Lia and Evan would be icing on the cake **hint hint**

The final part of this trilogy and Shay Savage didn't disappoint.

**** 4.5 ACTION-PACKED STARS!!!!! ****

I have loved everything Shay Savage has written so far, and this series? FANTASTIC!
The conclusion to Evan Arden's story was everything I hoped it to be. This series is very different from your typical romance. I wouldn't even label it romance necessarily, more like suspense/thriller with a romantic twist.

And Lia is back. Finally! the woman that has haunted Evan's thoughts made her appearance in Otherwise Occupied, but right at the end. Here, she's staying and giving Evan the attention he deserves.

What I love about Evan, is that he is a tortured hero. He makes no apologies for his behavior and life choices, but we see the things that molded him into what he is today. The affects of war and being a POW have altered Evan. He is suffering from PTSD in the worst way, and cracking was imminent. But we also see the goodness below the surface, the ability to prove loyalty and character in the worst of circumstances.

He has gone to hell and back, but there is a reward for him, and with Lia in the picture, it becomes possible to have it. I loved Lia as well. She was a great heroine: loyal and attentive to a man unfamiliar with love and trust, giving, patient, loving and willing to stick it out for the man she loves...I really, really liked her. It's nice to see a female character that's not always out to prove something. Her quiet strength is proof enough.

And can I say DAMN! to the smexy time? Shay Savage knows how to write very sensual and erotic love scenes. They weren't overly long and overdone, but very on the mark.

I loved the epilogue! I loved everything. Fantastic series! LOVED IT.

Love, love this series… love everything Shay writes. Evan Arden is an all time favorite male character in my large repertoire of fictional book boyfriends. Evan is just so…. Evan; complicated, conflicted, damaged, ruthless, hero, killer, lover, beautiful, cunning, witty, dirty talking, back door craving and SEXY as ALL FVCK!
This third book in the Evan Arden series was a five star read for me. God- I loved being in Evan’s screwed up yet oddly lucid head. He was so focused on his mission(s) by force and choice. His loyalty to the only father figure, Rinaldo he has ever known- to his love of his dog, Odin just makes me melt. And… even though Evan is a cold-blooded sniper for the mob-shit who cares… I love him even more for it.
Now is the time for Evan to turn-a-new-leaf so to speak and try to make a go of loving someone for the very first time. Lia is the person that makes Evan want to be better- to be free of the mob and his perfected sniper ways.
And… even though Evan feels strongly about his weapons “I never really referred to it as a she or anything like that, if my Barrett were a woman, I would definitely fuck her“
He loves Lia more and wants to be good for her, to have a life with her, without crime… but can he?
Read this wonderful series and found out for yourself.

Favorite quotes:

"I wanted to relive every cum-covered moment—that’s what I wanted"

"I was on her a second later, pushing her legs apart to give me access to the Mecca of all pussies"

“I love you, too, baby.”

Otherwise Unharmed was an amazing, and exciting conclusion to the trilogy, really, I couldn’t have asked for a better one!

***Spoilers ahead if you haven’t read the previous books***

The story picks up immediately where Otherwise Occupied left off with Evan having breakdown after the betrayal of Bridgette and subsequent events, buying him a trip to prison. I wondered how things would all work out! Of course, this is the moment Lia finally finds him, but no worries, not much can keep Evan down!

Lia is like a life-line and a calming force in Evan’s life and with her presence he can finally get some much needed sleep and focus on getting his life back together.

Her fingers tugged gently through the strands of hair just behind my right ear, and it was as if each stroke over my scalp was removing pieces of the pain, the guilt, and the damage inside my brain.*

Good thing because while Evan’s in prison he approached by other parties that lay on the pressure to come up with evidence against his crime boss Rinaldo, or else. With Lia being in the picture, that “or else” is a real and damaging threat. Evan’s not about to lose her now that she’s back in his life again, and he’ll do just about whatever it takes to keep her safe while figuring out a way for them to be together permanently. Evan hopes that once Lia finds out the truth of his life, she’ll want permanent with him.

This was an action packed, and nail biting conclusion! Not a dull moment, I tell you! Being inside Evan’s head is fascinating, and I couldn’t help but fall for him completely in this final book. He is the complete anti-hero, doing things that no one could condone, shocking things. Especially in the last book, but after knowing everything he went through, for his country no less, and even before that, I couldn’t hold it against him!

As for Lia and Evan, I was in complete heaven that they were back together! Her reactions to Evan’s truths are believable and she wasn’t a pushover just because of her strong feelings for him. Yet, she was able to see the big picture and the good man deep down.

“You’re warm,” she said as her body pressed against mine, “and you’re so smart. You’re gentle, and strong, and handsome. You’re compassionate and self-sacrificing.” -----*

“You are perceptive,” she continued. “You always know exactly what I want and need. You’re loyal and brave. You have endured so much—far more than any one person should ever have to face—but you kept going.”*

I loved this riveting series! Evan Arden was a complex, imperfect, and yet magnetic character and I’m sorry to say goodbye. At this point, anything Shay Savage writes will be on my automatic buy list!

Reading Order
Otherwise Alone (Evan Arden Trilogy #1)
Otherwise Occupied (Evan Arden Trilogy #2)
Otherwise Unharmed (Evan Arden Trilogy #3)

Review
I am really sorry to see this series end, but “All Good Things Must Come to an End”. I enjoyed Evan from the moment I started reading about him, his dog and his gun! I fell in love with Lia and how carefree she is and loyal to Evan without even knowing who the hell he really is.

You are probably asking me why I only rated this book 4 Stars then? Well, I have a good reason ----- I was pissed that

I also got a bit frustrated at Lia.

Then there were the parts that kinda felt a bit lackluster to me. I know

And the BIGGEST REASON is

Enough said about that.

Again I want to stress that I loved this series and went through all the emotions a good book is capable of giving. I laughed, I cringed, I sniffled, I got pissed, I got happy, I got pissed again and again.

It was a great roller-coaster of a ride!!

Re-Cap
Evan is in jail after shooting up the park….was it just a dream that he saw Lia while being hauled off by the cops? His doctor wants to help and Evan wants to sleep. How is it possible for a criminal to get the service he needs in order to sleep? Why, how else? But through Lia? Evan’s doctor sees how Evan is around Lia and how calm and at peace he seems to be.

But how can Evan get out of jail and protect Lia? An opportunity opens up to him but he must make his fatherly mob boss believe that Evan has been disloyal and is now working for the opposing team. This just doesn’t put Evan into harms way but also Lia. Evan tries to keep secrets but is unable to hide anything from Lia and when he thinks she may run away….he is surprised to learn that Lia can accept his past. That is as long as Evan gets out of this life he leads.

Now how the hell is Evan going to retire from the mob? I always thought the only way you retire is 6 feet underground.

Follow Evan while he tries to get information from the Russian family while he plays sharp shooter for them. Then follow him as he continues to suffer from his PTSD that is only getting worse and worse. It’s not enough for Lia to battle the demons for Evan, he must figure out why he is being plagued by a teenage boy.

Wrap-Up
This is a fast paced story that is full of suspense and thrills along with being a romantic (as best as Evan can be) love story. It absolutely killed me when

My heart melted when he said those words to Lia Pick this series up and enjoy a story told from a man’s POV who suffers from PTSD and works for the mob!

Hands down one of the best series I've read in a long time. This story was so unique, packet with angst, action and hot romance, everything I love in a book and much more. I went from excited, to scared, to mad, to raging furious, to love and lust; never have I felt so many emotions from reading just one book. This author created an outstanding story and I encourage absolutely everybody to read it!

Evan and Lia have reunited and it's just them against the world...

Otherwise Unharmed (Evan Arden Trilogy #3) by Shay Savage
5 Evan freaking Arden!Stars
This book, this series, this character, and this author NEVER disappoint!
If you love Evan Arden & this series as much as I do, OH BOY are you going to love this last book! This story continues with its originality, fantastic characters and hold your breath moments, and I’m pretty sure I laughed out loud in a couple of spots too. Oh and did I forget to say how sexy it was …mmmm yes very sexy. My God I don’t know how I am going to do this review without sounding redundant so if you have heard me say this before on blogs or even in my other reviews of this series or the authors other books then I apologize but I am going to say it again. NOBODY writes a Male POV better than Shay Savage NOBODY! And what a way to end this series…PERFECT! Just like many of other readers I love a good epilogue and I was thrilled that this book had one. There is nothing that I wanted or needed that this book didn’t deliver. I love Evan he has easily become one of those male lead characters that I will never forget. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and when that happens, you are like a pig in shit and then realty hits and you almost simultaneously think oh boy it’s going to suck if I hate it! CLEARLY not a problem here AT ALL! If you haven’t started this series yet what are you waiting for? No excuse to wait all three books are out! So get on it!

5 deliciously angsty ★★★★★s all the way

I loved this trilogy. LOVED it. Evan Arden is by far the roughest, most badass, grittiest, fucked-up, mentally broken, tortured, endearing asshole anti-hero I've ever met! Did I say I love the bastard? Because I do. I'm sprung. He's dark, he's damaged, he's a lost soul in a violent mafia world, and God, did I eat him up with a spoon. His story was everything I never knew I wanted in a book. I'm glad I knew so little about these books before jumping in. Had I known some of the particulars I may have hesitated, and it would have been my loss.

I would consider these books to be more Evan's story than anything else. For anyone looking for something heavily romantic, this is not that at all. This is a highly unconventional romance, but it's so good, I don't even know how these books aren't more popular. They are more romantic suspense, very much weighted on the side of suspense than romance. SPOILERISH:....... come on, the heroine, Lia, doesn't even appear in the second book, until the very last scene! end of spoilerish detail and yet, I absolutely loved the second book and how it kept me guessing, not knowing where things were going. The third book is equally good, even if it's still all told from Evan's POV. Living in his head is fascinating. It was so real, I felt like I knew what the life of a hit man really is. I understood how hollow, bloody and lonely, and how close he was to snapping.

The books are masterful in creating a character so real and full of depth that I felt for him, cried for him, hated him and loved him. I was totally mindfucked. He's immoral, he's a dick, and yet I couldn't stop rooting for him. He's led such a sad life, from growing up without parents, raised by nuns in a convent, to the torture he suffered as a prisoner of war and the terrible things he had to do as a sniper in the Marines, that my heart broke for him.

This isn't so much about Evan and Lia's relationship. It's all about Evan. Evan's struggle, Evan's undoing... Evan's journey from a Marine to a POW to a Mafia hit man, to a mentally unstable man, to a man in love. It was powerful. He was willing to stop at nothing to ensure the safety of the one woman he's come to care for after a life of nothing but hookers. I loved how he jumped through virtual hoops to earn his way out of the mafia and give himself a chance to live and love. Lia is everything to him, she is sanity itself. His desperation to have a chance at happiness was so tangible I felt it in my soul. It had me on the edge of my seat, tangled in emotion. It ate me up and spit me out. I'm now convinced I'm some sort of bookish masochist.

My only teensy tiny gripe with this book is that I would have loved to have a little more screen time with Evan and Lia as a couple. The story was so heavily centered on the suspense/crime aspect that it came at the cost of the romantic elements. Lia is mainly a secondary character to Evan's struggle to free himself of the crime world, so much so that we never get her POV. Perhaps some of that would have helped to give their relationship a little more dimension. I do understand this is really Evan's story. It seems to be what the author intended. Still, it would have served to understand Lia's thought process a little better, given how dangerous Evan's world is and how unexpected, and morally opposed to her. For how little they knew each other, I was a bit surprised at how passively she seemed to just roll with it. She mainly appeared on screen for the sex scenes (which by the way were hotter than blazes. Evan is so rough, and dirty and has a thing for women's asses. The man can do fantastic things to them.)

This is still 5 stars to me. I can't wait to read more from this author. I love her voice. It takes a heap of talent (and balls) to write a whole trilogy in the male POV. This is one of the best, most convincing ones I've EVER read. I highly recommend these books to anyone who doesn't mind angsty, rollercoaster reads with a morally dubious hardass, totally delicious anti-hero, and quite a bit of violence thrown in, not to mention the heavy mafia suspense aspect. I also recommend them to anyone looking for a breath of fresh air. These books were like nothing I'd ever read before and that made me love them all the more. ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

Buddy read with my beautiful, Wendy. I couldn't have wished for a more special read to share with you. Thank you!!

Who knew all you needed in a book was a Barrett and hot mystery girl from the desert to make one hell of a 5 star ride??!!!

Whew...Evan Arden has made me mad, he has made me cry, he has made me beyond nervous, but most of all he has made me love him! He is damn cold blooded killer...a broken soldier of death...and I just could not get enough of his tale and the complete clusterf*** that it was!

From a daily assassin to complete mental breakdown...Evan is a player in a game bigger than himself. For someone so attuned to his surroundings and his targets, you would think he could figure out when he himself is actually being played for death! I will blame it on the complete lack of sleep...

or perhaps the fact that he has finally found the sexy balm to his damaged soul!

Just one look, one touch and one word from his Lia and his circuits are again in working order. For once in his life Evan Arden has found passion. In Lia Antonio, he has found human emotion and he has discovered that there is something worth truly fighting for...NOW, if only he can keep him and her alive long enough to escape the death ring!

I don't think anyone who goes all into his series will come out "unharmed." NO WAY! Evan Arden will consume your thoughts. He will occupy your emotions by making you feel empathy, pure fear, confusion, and even a bit of primal lust. His ability to put a hole in the head of a hit and then come home and deliver hot sex all in a days work will leave you speechless!

This was a fabulous conclusion with the ante upped. Every page brought new emotions and edge of the seat suspense. I loved reading the transformation of Evan and the way Lia was incorporated into his world of violence, yet at the same it was all written with a sense of true romance!

I also loved that no matter what the situation or consequences Evan was always a true soldier...a consummate protector, a loyal ally, and a bad-ass alpha! I just hope that this soldier can enjoy some "sabbatical" time with his girl far away from the hell that has consumed him!

Update: 5-27-2015 *** I'm going to pretend that the Evan Arden series ended with this book. ***

-------------

Shay Savage has become my favorite author this year. Surviving Raine was one of my top reads, and now so is Otherwise Unharmed. I love her heroes. They straddle the lines of morality which make them compelling characters.
I don’t think there is anyone more f@cked up than Evan Arden, and I loved it that we get his POV because it’s irreverent and funny and so politically incorrect. Lia is also a great character and l liked how she stands up to Evan yet remain vulnerable and true to herself. We find out the answers to Evan’s back story and what made him so damaged.

From Otherwise Occupied, we know that Evan gets thrown into jail. He is not sleeping and it’s messing with his judgment until it finally leads him to a breakdown where he shoots up a park—no one gets hurt though.

In all this, Lia comes back to his life. Other forces are at play and the feds have something on him and want him to rat out his mafia boss, Rinaldo. However, nothing can get Evan to betray the man who has almost been a father figure to him so he bargains to give them something else.

Evan doesn’t know how to achieve this at first specially since he needs to keep Lia safe. This is a story about organized crime, how warring mafias try to coexist with each other but how a slight fuse to the situation—in this case Evan—could cause the powder keg to explode.

And explode it did in non-stop action, double-crossing, intrigue, revenge and some heartbreaking moments. I hated what happened at around 84% of the book . I did see it coming...don’t ask me how, but it still made me sad when it happened.

Evan Arden is a damaged hero I loved! Sure he struggled, knowing that to be with Lia, he would endanger her life. But instead of wallowing in the thought that he is not good enough for her and push her away, I liked that he lays it all out for her knowing that she might leave him. And when they decide to be together, he never wavers and calls up everything in his arsenal—and I mean that literally and figuratively—to make a future with her possible.

Oh, how can I not mention the hot sex scenes. They were a scorcher because both Evan and Lia like it rough and wow, the make-up sex.

Though the ending left the door open to future books, it was perfect and definitely an HEA.

"I'm a hit man. I work for the largest crime family in the city, and I kill people for money".

This is the final book for Evan Arden's Trilogy. We first introduced to Evan in Otherwise Alone where he met Lia Antonia in the Arizona. Evan head back to Chicago alone to continue working for his boss, Rinaldo Moretti's. Meanwhile, we witnessed Evan dealing with severe PTSD and he was spiraling out of control towards the end.

Now Lia is back into his life and he wants to make sure they had another chance to be together again. With the Feds trailing after him, Evan have to make a deal in order to avoid imprisonment while keeping his boss happy and not getting himself and Lia killed. Sounds like a plan.

Evan's character really fascinated me. Unlikely other anti-hero that I read, Evan was a hit man through and through, he doesn't suddenly appear to have a heart of gold or wish to redeem himself. He was no hero, merely a man trying to survive in the situation he was thrown in and wanted to get his girl in the end. When he recount his experience during his capture, we see where he was coming from and we wanted things to work out for him.

"You turn around and go back to the slimy cunt you crawled out of, and I won't blow your dick off and shove it into the sewer."

Lia's presence was sorely missed in Otherwise Occupied and poor girl had no idea what she is facing. I find Lia's reaction towards everything that happened around Evan quite realistic. Of course being more realistic will be for her to just runaway from him. She freaked out and I wonder how can she deal with it and continue to be by his side.

"You gave me my sanity back. Your presence, your words, your touch, and your body - they brought me back from someplace I don't ever want to be again."

I still don't consider this is much of a romance book, more like a suspense/thriller with some really hot sex scene. Between hiding Lia all around Chicago, Evan was plotting a way to infiltrate another mob family. The climax had me gripping my Kindle so hard, it looks like everything doesn't work out for Evan and I'm dying to know how will they gonna survive through it all. We had a great ending together with an epilogue, I couldn't have ask for more.

All you had to do was look at us - from war, death, and suffering, we'd achieved beauty, peace, and love.

Highly explosive, unexpected and to good to put down! From the moment you crack the pages open Shay Savage doesn't stop, the woman doesn't know the meaning of the word. Not a single book in the series has lacked intensity, superior action, suspense or cream your jeans hotness! Yes ladies the author is that good!
 photo grayson.jpg
Evan's story is so heartbreaking, everything he suffered and continues to suffer from had me bawling. I kept wondering can't the war hero/hired assassin catch a break? Granted the majority of his hell is from his own making.
 photo Otherwise Occupied 14.jpg
Its weird because he isn't really a bad man even though he does horrendous acts and has extreme tendency of being the devil! Evan fiercely protects those closes to him and goes above and beyond to show loyalty even if he can't put labels on his feelings. I loved Evan's and Lia's story, five star read!

3.5--Didn't Get the Evan/Lia Connection--Stars!

Despite the lack of romance, the story itself was pretty entertaining. I didn't really get the connection between Evan and Lia and for it taking three books to "connect" it was pretty much insta-love.

They did have a lot of hot sex so thanks for that! :P

And dare I even say I felt more of a connection between Evan and hooker Bridgett.

Otherwise Unharmed picks up where Otherwise Occupied left off. Evan has landed himself in the slammer, Lia's back in town and there are new problems to face.

I also thought there were some holes in the story and stuff that didn't really seem realistic and didn't add up.

Evan was a complex, complicated hero but I felt like he never really "healed" from his past and the things that affected him in Otherwise Occupied. There were times I liked Evan and times I didn't.

But overall, it was a pretty decent series. The action was a nice change of pace for me. IDK I think I needed more character development for Lia and relationship development for them as a couple for me to be able to rate it any higher.

I am a fan of this author and look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

"Otherwise Unharmed" is worth the wait! The story is fast-paced and exciting. The previous story "Otherwise Occupied" left us with a dramatic cliffhanger with Evan's emotional breakdown and suddenly spotting Lia wearing the "memento quarter" around her neck.
Evan is in prison again. He is able to make a deal to get out and see Lia again, but now he has more enemies and he has Lia to protect. The story is fast-paced and there are twists and turns that keep the reader guessing about what will happen next.
Shay has done a great job with this story that I could not put down after I started reading it.
I am now reading the trilogy again to relive it from beginning to end.
Fans of Shay Savage's stories will love this story!
