Combat doctor Ian Shupe returns home from overseas with his most important to raise his little girl. But Ian's a single dad, and working at Eagle Point's trauma center means having to find child care. When bighearted, struggling lodge owner Bri Landis offers babysitting in exchange for construction work, Ian accepts. He vows to keep his emotional distance from Bri, yet can't deny that his daughter is blossoming under her tender care. But is he ready to believe that his heart's deepest prayer may finally be answered?
Just go find the book and read it. It won't be on the shelves long - or just buy it for your e-reader. To say I had a lot of anticipation for this book is an understatement. I am wordless (which doesn't happen often) to describe how much I loved this book. I loved the first book in the Eagle Point series and I could not wait for the story to continue.
Ian Shupe is a combat veteran, one of the founding doctors of Eagle Point’s new trauma center, divorced and a single Dad. He has promised his friend Caleb to watch over his sister, Brin when he is deployed overseas. Brin Landis has returned to Eagle Point to put distance between herself and an abusive ex-boyfriend and refurbish the lodge that has been in her family for years. The bank is threatening foreclosure, but she has reached a deal to avoid it if she can refurbish and rent out a number of the cabins before mid-February. Ian is trying desperately to reacquaint himself with is 5 year old daughter Tia after many custody hearings, Tia lives with Ian now and her mother does not want to be part of this young girl’s life. Having a child and being a single parent is a challenge, but especially for someone who is the trauma center’s only anesthesiologist. His solution seems to fall from above, when Brin falls while making repairs on the lodge. She breaks her wrist and Ian suggests Brin babysit Tia while he is at the trauma center and Ian will do the needed repairs on the lodge in his down time.
I loved Ian from the first book. He was so conflicted over the breakup of his marriage; refusing to take off his wedding ring until the divorce papers were signed. I was so excited he was the “hero” in this second book of the series. He is a brooding man who is so focused on his daughter he does not give time for love. Bri embodies love – that is the easiest way to say it. She and Tia have a connection from the start; Bri and Ian fall into a comfortable routine. Slowly they both start of overcome the pain of their past.
This book is a hug from a friend; the story just puts its arms around you and holds on. It has some quirky characters, some familiar faces from the first book and the Wings Of Refuge series (yeah Brock!) and a great message. I sat down after dinner and started reading and did not stop until I was done – I just could not put it down. I have come to rely on and love Cheryl’s characters and the strong faith they have. I don’t ever want to leave the Eagle Point and Refuge area; I am anxiously awaiting book 3 in the series.
I received an ARC of this title from Cheryl for my honest review. However I have bought copies to “pay it forward” and give to friends I know would appreciate Cheryl’s message.
Since discovering HQ Love Inspired romance genre I am enjoying these books. I do pick and choose the storylines to read. I quickly got whisked into Eagle Point by the circumstances that led to the Bri's meeting Dr. Ian Shupe.
Looking for a great romance book designed specifically for Christians, then look no further than Doctor to the Rescue by Cheryl Wyatt. This novel is part of the Love Inspired series from Harlequin, that's right you read it correctly. This is the second book, I've had the opportunity to read and review as part of the Eagle Point Emergency series and I absolutely love it! Cheryl gets you emotionally involved with the characters that she breathes life into and truly makes you root for a positively romantic outcome.
In Doctor to the Rescue, we meet Bri Landis who is attempting to renovate her family's lodge that is facing foreclosure. Once considered a fine lake side retreat, it has fallen into a state of disrepair. Lacking the funds to hire contractors, she has to undertake the project herself while her brother Caleb is serving in the military. She is just about to make some headway when she falls nine feet from a ladder seriously breaking her arm. Knowing that the Eagle Point Trauma Center is within walking distance she attempts to make her way there but grows faint in the parking lot. It is there she meets Doctor Ian Shupe.
Ian is the trauma centers anesthetist who immediately takes Bri into the hospital where it is determined she requires surgery to repair her arm. Besides being afraid of surgery since her mother died while going through it, she knows with a broken arm, she is about to lose her family business and home. Ian assures her that they can work out a barter system. He can work on the lodge if she can help care for his young daughter Tia, who's mother abandoned her. It's the perfect solution for both of them seeing as the lodge and the trauma center are close by. Since Ian is often called away unexpectedly, Bri assures him that with a background in teaching and day care skills she is more than up to the challenge.
They both have a history of bad relationships in their past and are in no hurry to look for love any time soon. Yet what starts out as simply a business solution for both slowly turns their hardened hearts a little softer as Christmas nears and Bri begins to breakthrough Tia's tough shell she has put up to help her deal with loss and abandonment issues. Bri is making strides that Ian seems to struggle with and soon finds herself falling in love for the young girl. But how can she find a way to keep her distance from Tia without also falling for the young doctor as well who also appears to be changing? Will they find love after all?
I received Doctor to the Rescue by Cheryl Wyatt compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance and Harlequin Publishers for my honest review. I truly found this novel to be enchanting because I can honestly see how walls can be built up to keep our hearts from being hurt again but what we fail to understand is that by building that wall to keep ourselves from being hurt, we isolate ourselves from being able to feel anything at all. That is just what Ian and Bri have done and it takes a huge amount of effort and trust on both sides to begin to tear down the wall brick by brick. There are truly so many take away quotes from this book like when Bri finds herself going through struggle after struggle and begins to question her faith, her friend Kate tells her, "It's just a rough patch in your life right now. A bottleneck of stress always squeezes the most right before things push through." I can certainly relate. I easily give this novel a 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait for more for Cheryl in the future.
Title: DOCTOR TO THE RESCUE Author: Cheryl Wyatt Publisher: Love Inspired January 2013 ISBN: 978-0373877904 Genre: Contemporary romance
Bri Landis is desperate to save her mother’s memory—and her mother’s favorite place on Earth, a lodge. But with her brother in combat and Bri all alone, the job seems overwhelming—especially since the lodge is being repossessed unless she can fix it up and rent out every available space in less than a month to earn the money to pay what is owed. The job is beyond impossible—especially when Bri falls from a nine foot ladder and breaks her arm bad enough to require surgery.
Ian Shupe is a former combat doctor, best friends with Bri’s brother, and in a nasty custody battle for his little girl. As the doctor on duty when Bri comes in, Ian goes above and beyond the call of duty to make her comfortable, and even offers to work without pay to help her fix up the lodge—if she’s willing to babysit his daughter while he works.
Rumor has it that Ian is attracted to Bri, which is why he is brusque. Coming out of a bad relationship with a brusque man, Bri is leery of letting Ian too close. But what will it take for two people with deep hurts and ongoing trauma find a lasting relation—especially when a troubled child is involved?
DOCTOR TO THE RESCUE is the second book in Ms. Wyatt’s Eagle Point Emergency series, but it easily stands alone. I couldn’t help but feel for Bri and her problems, and Ian just reached out and wrapped himself around my heart strings and tugged. I felt for him deeply.
I enjoyed reading DOCTOR TO THE RESCUE and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great contemporary romance. The action never slows down. Fast paced, and I had to keep reading to see what happens next. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. $ 6.75. 224 pages.
Stressed from overwork and frustrated with losing so much of his daughter's life while in active service, Ian's a single dad trying to build a relationship with Tia. Recently divorced, he covers for his ex-wife and determines not to make the matrimonial mistake again. Six months after ending an emotionally abusive relationship, Bri initially finds Ian's brooding temper much like that of her ex-boyfriend. Until she realizes that's just a symptom of the real hurt.
I have enjoyed all of Cheryl Wyatt's books, this one included. The characters carry around so much emotional baggage and hurt from the past, you wonder how they'll ever reach their happily-ever-after, so you stay up past your bedtime just to find out. Even little Tia, Ian's daughter, rebels against her daddy, calling him Ian and lashing out at him for her mother's abandonment. Bri helps repair the relationship between Daddy and daughter. I especially like how the faith theme weaves gently throughout this book, for example, how Bri explains to Tia how God communicates. That was such a precious conversation.
Probably the only beef I have with Doctor to the Rescue is that so much happened in the last few pages, that I felt it was a bit rushed. But that didn't detract from the story. Just made me wish it were longer. :-)
Disclaimer: Thanks to Cheryl Wyatt for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and unbiased review.
If you are already a fan of Cheryl's wonderful military heroes you will not be disappointed by this story of returned military doctor Ian Shupe. If you have never met any of Cheryl's heroes will are in for a real treat. You will be glad you took the time to visit with Ian, Brianna, Tia, Mitch and all the other interesting characters in this book.
Ian is a military doctor returned from the Middle East, faced with a divorce he couldn't find a way to avoid, a daughter he doesn't really know, the stressful job of helping open and run a trauma center with other returning military medical staff, and a struggling lodge keeper he isn't sure what to do with. The situation is filled with enough compassion, stress, love, parental angst, hope, fear, and attraction to keep any romance reader asking for more.
Watch Ian come into the man God wants him to be, the father Tia needs, the friend Brianna Landis can't resist, and the doctor that Mitch relies on.
See Bri learn to trust the people God places in her path to help her, open her heart to hope for the future, and learn to love a man and his child.
It is a book that could only be written by a gal born on a military base on Valentine's Day.
Another wonderful book by Cheryl Wyatt, and most welcome addition to my collection of her books which have their own shelf in my bookcase.
How can you not be drawn into a book that starts with a lady falling 9 feet into a shrub and breaking her arm? This is just the start of problems for Bri Landis as she tries to fix the home and heritage left to her and her brother Caleb.
Another person with problems is Dr. Ian Shupe who has a very emotionally hurt little 5-year-old daughter Tia,plus baggage of his own.
Their lives become meshed ,and despite their needs and problems,it is shown that there is a divine plan for it all if they would just believe or see it. It is great how the friends and familie come to help them in many situations, and shows so many.
The ending of the story is something out of the ordinary and made it even more special. It brought me many smiles and that warm fuzzy good feeling that all of us could use in light of some recent events.
I am so glad I read this, and will be anxiously waiting for the next one by this wonderful author.
If you like to read, treat yourself to this one,and you will want to read more by Cheryl Wyatt.
I absolutely adored this book. Huge kudos to Cheryl for her hero, single dad, Ian. At first I didn’t think I’d like him because he seemed a little hard around the edges, but man, as he started to soften up toward the heroine he became the perfect hero.
I love Bri. She’s fun and a bit quirky, even if she is a wounded heroine. I love how she breaks through to Ian’s little girl and is able to communicate with her on the child’s level. I especially love the way Bri talks to herself. ;)
The setting of Eagle Point had me ready to pack my bags and move.
Without giving any spoilers away, I do want to say that I loved that Cheryl was able to bring two wounded people together, one hard and loyal, one soft and somewhat of a wanderer, both lacking trust.
Doctor to the Rescue is a cute, quick read. It gave me a bit of insight into the trauma unit life, a better understanding of their chaotic world and those who support them.
I have enjoyed Cheryl Wyatt's books for a long time. Her Refuge series was one of my favorites and her latest Eagle Point series is proving to be equally delightful. I liked the characters of Bri and Ian and young Tia. The story of single parents always grab my interest and a woman in need grabs it even more. Bri has a great deal of emotional baggage as does Ian and both are committed to helping to heal Ian's daughter, Tia. I found myself getting lost in this story and was sad to see it end. Cheryl has once again brought humor, tension and joy all into one package and wrapped it with a bow. I can't wait to read the next book in her Eagle Point series!
I did receive a book from Cheryl for the purpose of review purposes, yet I can tell you that I would have purchased it because Cheryl is one of my favorite authors.
I enjoyed reading Doctor to the Rescue by Cheryl Wyatt. Bri moves to Eagle point to start fresh after leaving an abusive relationship. In the process of trying to fix up her families lodge Bri falls and breaks her arm. Bri ends up at the new trauma center and right to Ian Shupe who's a Dr. and father to a troubled little girl and Bri's appointed bodyguard by her brother Caleb, who's a fellow Pj and friend. Bri and Ian work out a deal, Bri baby sits his daughter Tia, while Ian helps repair Bri's lodge. Bri and Ian instantly start fighting the attraction that sparks between them and fall into the trap of comparing each other to their past relationships. Will Bri and Ian let God open their eyes into what's right in front of them and become a family that they always dreamed of?
"Doctor to the Rescue" by Cheryl Wyatt is a wonderfully sweet romance. Two struggling people get together for their mutual benefit, only to fall in love. Simple formula for a romance and an exquisitely written story by Cheryl. We all know the guy and the girl fall in love; it's a given. The joy in reading the story comes from the struggles they overcome to get there both external and internal.
Cheryl provides an engaging story that's easy to read and thoroughly enjoyable. I laughed and cried, and didn't want to put the book down.
I really liked this book. I felt a connection with Bri and understood what she was going through. I was hooked from the first page. Highly recommended.
A good read. Combat doctor Ian Shupe returns home to raise his little girl. He hires Bri Landis to babysit while he works, in exchange for her babysitting, he does work around her lodge to help save her family lodge and cabins. Will they be able to save the lodge especially after Bri breaks her arm? Will they save more then the lodge?
The book accomplished what it needed to do, but not without some editing errors. For instance, Clara was first introduced as Dr. Lockwood, but then later was Dr. Lockhart for the rest of the book. The ending was sweet but came too quickly.
A doctor helps Bri when she falls off a ladder. Bri then agreed to take care of his daughter while he was on duty @ the trauma center. A story of healing & learning to trust.
This is the second book in the Eagle Point Series and it was just as good as the first! In book one we met Dr. Ian Shupe and he was struggling with a broken marriage, and was grumpy and somewhat short tempered. In book 2 we finally get to learn more about him, his kind nature, but his grumpiness and anger being over his broken marriage and the mom to his daughter. Ian's daughters mom has signed over her parental rights to Ian and has essentially walked out of their lives. He's hurt, and frustrated and because of that is grumpy A LOT. His hands are full always working at Eagle Point and now juggling being a single dad. But all that changes when he meets Bri. She falls from a ladder and them meeting sets the scene for the perfect arrangement. He helps her get the Lodge fixed up for Bri and in exchange, she babysits his daughter Tia. All of it is going fine, but it is very much a grumpy and sunshine vibe. Bri and Ian are reluctantly becoming dependent on each other and Tia is hinting she wants more from their set up. But Bri isn't interested in a relationship after leaving an abusive one. And Ian is denying and refusing to let any woman get close... his only focus is winning his daughter over.
This is such a sweet, sweet story once again of two broken people coming together for a young child. And the more they are together, the more each others presence just "feels right" but they both are reluctant to explore those feelings. So you go on a journey with them... a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but the story keeps you reeled in and waiting to see what happens next with them.
Off to book 3, which I am sure will be just as wonderful as the first two!
I recently posted a review on Cheryl Wyatt's latest book, The Nurse's Secret Suitor. As I was reading it, I thought I was missing something!! I sure was!! I skipped this book accidentally in between the others but thankfully found it on my bookshelf this weekend. It was yet another very quick read!!
This story features the lives of Brianna and Ian. Brianna is devastated after the loss of her mom and her brother, Caleb, being transferred into dangerous military combat. Her mom left a lodge that Brianna is about to lose to foreclosure. While out working on the lodge, Brianna slips and breaks her arm. Ian, the fabulous Eagle Point Emergency anesthesiologist, helps Brianna to the ER and gets her settled in and ready for surgery. Little does Brianna know, Ian is her "bodyguard" set up by Caleb before his departure. Not sure how she will complete all the necessary repairs to the lodge in time for the banks to extend her loan, Brianna soon finds herself surrounded by help from Eagle Point and the neighboring town, Refuge. Uncomfortable with accepting charity, Brianna strikes a deal with Ian to be his daughter Tia's babysitter. Did Brianna bite off more than she could chew?
I loved this story and how it developed. Eagle Point reminds me of my own hometown and how everyone bonds together during times of distress and tragedy. I also enjoy the medical theme throughout the book (it's the nurse in me!) and how Ms. Wyatt ties that into the military as well. I look forward to more great books in this series!
Firstly thanks to Cheryl Wyatt for my review copy.
Another good book by Cheryl Wyatt. I am enjoying this series of books set in Eagle Point and revolving around the trauma centre. Ian is a single dad after dealing with a breakup with his former wife and wants nothing to do with romance ever again. His concern is his daughter. Bri is trying to upgrade her mother's retreat. She also has some issue with an ex-boyfriend. Bri ends up babysitting for Ian and we see her relate well to his daughter. We also get to meet Ian's parents and have to say I love his mother as she has my first name. Both Bri and Ian have a lot of issues to deal with and I love how the story unfolded. Another great book.
Many of the characters from the Doctor’s Devotion are in Doctor to the Rescue. Our hero and heroine are both struggling to make a way in the world, which always makes an interesting read. He is a young doctor as well as a single dad trying to juggle fatherhood and his duties at the trauma center. Our heroine is struggling with missing a brother on active duty with trying to save and restore a retreat center near the trauma center. When a mishap brings the two together, they make a strange barter. The characters are developed well throughout the store and the story itself holds your interest.
I like how the author has put Eagle Point right next to Refuge so we can still spend plenty of time with the PJ's from Refuge and get to know new characters. The heartache of being discarded by a parent is the subject of this book. How does one get over the pain? Dr. Ian was quite the guy. He had to work really hard at being a grump. :)
As a nurse I love reading books about nursing/doctors/etc. I loved this book. Not only the nursing aspect but the awesome characters as well. I fell in love with them all and think the author did a wonderful job of making them real for us in her writing. Definitely recommending this one. It is also in a series so make sure to read the others as well.
Cheryl developed some very real lovable characters in this book. Scene after scene it pulls you into the story. Loved the plot, great book, fast read! It’s a beautifully written love story. I loved this book!
She creates characters you feel you know. Although the book is stand alone it brings in characters from both her series - Eagle Point Emergency and Wings of Refuge. My full review can be found at More Than a Review dot com.
