Lake Mountain
At Lake Mountain, Death is only the beginning... Her name is Raven... Raven - a bird of large size, with black lustrous plumage and raucous voice, who feeds chiefly on carrion or other flesh. The Raven is mischievous and thievish, and is regarded as an evil omen and of mysterious character. Quick-sighted, sagacious and bold, Ravens take away by force; to seize or divide and spoil. They plunder. They devour voraciously; feed hungrily or greedily; they prey on or upon. Her friend is Amber... Thrown out of home by her alcoholic father, and with no place to stay, Raven is the only friend Amber has. Raven takes her in and lets her stay in her small trailer at the Pine Hill Trailer Park. Amber relies on Raven, she needs her, she can't live without her... But then there's the body. And the need to flee... And the road to Lake Mountain is their only hope of escape. Until they meet Tyler...and everything changes. For their destinies lie along the long, lonely track to Lake Mountain. It's gonna be one hell of a road-trip... Steve Gerlach's Lake Mountain. The Adventures of Grave Girl
and Her Sidekick Lesbian Girl...
4 stars. Raven, 24, and Amber, 19, lived in Raven's trailer at the Pine Hills trailer park 25 miles west of Lake Mountain...
That is where it all started...
They were lifelong BFFs...
Raven was just over 6 feet tall, thin, always wore sexy black clothes, and listened to death metal bands...
Her long dark hair had a purple streak on each side. Her nipples were pierced with silver barbells...
She worked at Rawhide Gentleman's Club...
It was a fancy name for a strip club...
One night...
Raven told Amber she killed Duke Morgan, and he was still in the wardrobe of their trailer...
And so began their quest to dump his body...
The girls drank some Jack Daniel's, and Raven told Amber how and why she killed Duke. Amber should've fled the scene, but she didn't...
That's what friends were for...
And that's why Amber wrote everything down in a journal so that, eventually, the story couldn't be twisted by the authorities...
Next morning...
Raven asked her employer for a two week vacation. The girls were going to take their trailer to Lake Mountain to dump Duke...
Who was now swarming with blowflies and maggots in their wardrobe...
Once on the road...
They stopped for gas, where the hillbilly gas attendant tried to rape Raven. She hit him on the head with a rock and left him for dead...
Then they were back on the road...
On Lake Mountain, they found a hideout at a secret lagoon. It was paradise...
They had to keep Duke in the trailer a few more days because rigor mortis had set in, and they couldn't pry him out of the wardrobe...
The next day...
Maggots fell to the floor from the wardrobe...
Duke had overstayed his welcome...
Between Duke's smell and the maggots, Amber was frantic to get rid of him. Raven was cool about it all. Life was full of risks. Only stupid people don't take the risk...
Then, a man entered their escapades and offered to help them. They made an interesting threesome: Grave Girl, her Lesbian sidekick, and a strange man who lived in the woods...
This was a very entertaining crime thriller noir. I didn't think the girls would ever get rid of the putrid Duke while the authorities and drug dealers were hot on their trail. Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, the girls make an impromptu trip to a mortuary.
The story, although very good, was a little too long. It could've been about 100 pages shorter and still told a great story.
Warning to some readers: Hold onto your lunch due to some very gross content. Graphic sexual content and necrophilia are also part of the story.
Recommended! (if you're not squeamish)

Murder, madness, women
This is my first time reading this author I have to say I'm really impressed this book was an enjoyable read. The book is about two women who are complete opposites that get mixed up in a road trip murder. This book is very graphic so if you have a weak stomach don't read it but ill add this author to my reading list.

Loved this novel. This was one of the most insane, emotionally draining novels that I've read.
This is a story about two best friends from dysfunctional families living together, seemingly leading normal(ish) and happy lives, then the shit hits the fan.
This was a larger than normal horror novel with a very small cast of characters. This gave the author plenty of time to work on character development and ways to hook in readers. I feel that he did a great job with this, and I couldn't help but to like and empathize with the two main characters, even when their actions were so incredibly crazy or annoying, and there was a ton of crazy in this book.
There were times when I felt that the characters or story line were unrealistic or frustrating, but as the story progressed, the author did a great job explaining everything. This resulted in one hell of a story that I will remember for a very long time.
This is only the second Gerlach novel that I've read. I really enjoy his writing style and his willingness and ability to grab the reader by their sensitive parts and not letting go. There were several moments when I actually felt dirty and even a bit sick, and I think that I even shed a few tears towards the end.
I wish this author was more prolific, and that his novels were more readily available.

Such an odd read. The flow was decent, writing was ok. I just could not get into the story as much though. Seemed a bit farfetched at times. Found myself speed reading parts of it just to move on. Lots of details that were not needed (to cloths, surroundings, etc)
Spoilers below
So, two girls living in a trailer park kill some tool, well one of them does, the other follows her no matter what. They decide to take off with the body and go round and round with what to do with it, then get attacked by a gas station employee and end up killing him too. Then some guy who watches it all go down decides to help them? Just cuz he finds one of them attractive. They finally decide what to do with the body and end up killing each other (minus the main character) and the cops never find her. They think it has to do with drugs, but it's really just two really messed up girls. I will not even get into what they did with the body or at the funeral home, but just wow, so twisted.

There were parts where it was a bit slow, and the protagonist can get a bit annoying, but by the end of the book all I could do was say wow. It really is a great story of a deranged and disturbing friendship....and then there's the body. Definitely a solid 4.5 stars

Very good horror novel that will appeal to those who enjoy the Richard Laymon branch of horror work. Steve Gerlach, thus far, ranks alongside Richard Laymon, Iain Rob Wright, William Malmborg and a few others as a must read author for me. Horror with a sharp edge - just the way I like it.
