This was a good book but what the author did was totally unnecessary. At 85% I was ready to quit reading.

Plus, as much as I don’t mind unbelievability this was a little far-fetched. I mean, Alexandra Poe’s father had been gone for years, just up and left her and her brother on day, AND was accused of being a traitor, but she thinks it’s a good idea to go to the Ukraine, get thrown in jail, do her best to escape with a woman that MIGHT give her information about her father? And the company she’s working for plan on bringing her father back to the States to stand trial. Just what was so damn important that she would go through all this danger to find out? Maybe to ask, why did you leave us?

Anyway, overall, I enjoyed the book, mostly. I liked that Poe could really kick some ass. And I have to say I was surprised at who the assassin was that the Committee sent to kill El-Hashim. I would have never thought of her.

As exciting as the book was it could have been better. I hate when you grow to like someone all through the story and the author decides to kill them off. It was a total bummer. However, I will read the second book.

As to the narration: Abby Craden did a fine job on the voices and emotions. Normally I don’t like her because her males sound like they’re constipated BUT that’s in romances. She does a better job with murder-mysteries, don’t ask me why.

Good Story, not so good narration by Abby Craden, sorry. (audible review)

So, yeah I did enjoy this story. I liked Alex she is a bad azz, smart, witty and funny, I like those qualities in a female lead character.
The story line and plot was good. There was a lot going on all the time. Interesting to purposely get arrested in another country so you can go to prison to break someone out. That was fun.

I like Cooper a lot more than I like Deuce. Deuce was a bit immature for my liking.

As for the narration, sigh.......... Not very good in my opinion. It was dull, and boring and the reading voice was meh. Please find a new narrator. Brittany Pressley she is perfect for these types of books.

Award-winning authors Brett Battles and Robert Gregory Browne have both had very successful careers as thriller writers, with legions of dedicated fans. Now, the two have combined their considerable talents, and the result is explosive.

Bounty hunter Alexandra Poe is no stranger to international security firm Stonewell International. She has rejected their overtures several times in the past, but this time, they have an ace up their sleeve - information about Alex's father, who she has not seen in a decade.

The mission Stonewell offers Alex requires her to go behind the walls of a Crimean prison, where she must then help a terrorist escape. What is so special about this prisoner? She has recently been in contact with Alex's father. Alex reluctantly accepts Stonewell's offer in the hopes of discovering her father's whereabouts.

Once inside the prison, Alex faces challenges beyond what she expected, including an assassin targeting the prisoner she is supposed to help escape.

Browne and Battles pulled me in from the first page and I didn't want to stop reading. I loved the characters Browne and Battles created for Poe. It's nice to see a female lead character who is strong and independent, without feeling like a stereotype or a cookie-cutter character. I would like to see her two male cohorts -- Deuce and Cooper -- flushed out a little more in the next installment of the series, and see if there are any romantic possibilities or conflict. Seems like the potential is definitely there for use in future stories.

When I have read a collaboration in the past, I have often been able to tell which author wrote which parts. That was not at all the case with Poe. The authors seem to be writing soulmates, their work combining seamlessly into an exciting story of a daughter's search for her father and her hope for his redemption.

Poe was a well-written, fast-paced thriller that served as a great introduction to a new character who can definitely carry a series. Luckily, the authors told me there is another story planned with release set for late fall. It probably goes without saying, but I'll say it anyhow -- I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

On a scale of 1 to 5, I give Poe a 4.5.

POE was written by Brett Battles and Robert Gregory Browne. You can purchase the book at www.amazon.com and you can find out more about these two authors at their respective web sites. Brett Battles is at www.brettbattles.com and Robert Gregory Browne is at www.robertgregorybrowne.com

Tough-as-nails bounty hunter, Alexandra Poe has a good reason to take on a job for Stonewall International, an agency that hunts down and captures fugitives from justice. That good reason is a chance to find her father more than ten years after he disappeared from her life, abandoning her and her brother.

With her mother killed in a terrorist attach and her brother in a mental facility, Alex is desperate to find her father and to know why he left them. She accepts the mission to be inserted into one of the most notoriously brutal women’s prisons in the world in order to pull out another female fugitive with information the agency needs. The woman also has information Alex must have in order to find her father.

Joined by her bounty hunting side-kick, Deuce, and her ex-army compatriot, Cooper, Alex goes into full kick-ass mode to get the mark out of the prison before she can be taken out by opposing forces.

Battles and Browne have created a female protagonist who can out-fight and out-think the ‘baddies’ as well as any man, and can do it looking good. Alex Poe is beautiful, tough, and able to dispatch bad guys with all the flair of a female ‘James Bond’. This story will keep the reader on the razor edge for hours of tense, nail-biting excitement.

If you have read stories by Brett Battles or Robert Gregory Browne, in the past, you know these two are awesome writers in their own rite, but together they ratchet up the excitement with this new series and readers will be clambering for more hard-hitting Alexandra Poe adventures as soon as they read the last page. Don’t miss this electrifying new series by these two remarkable authors.

Five spiders for Battles and Browne and their newest creation, POE.

Bounty Hunter without a bounty

I'm not too sure what to make of this book. I'm a fan of Brett Battles Cleaner series, so I thought this might be an interesting twist, a female version of Quinn. Sadly, if that was the direction the book was suppose to go, it seriously missed the mark.
Since the book has been out for a while, there probably a few good reviews already written up, but here's my brief summary of it.
Alexandra Pie is a bounty Hunter without a bounty, but a quest to fine her pops. He mission, infiltrate a Ukrainian Women's prison to free a prison who might have some info on her dad. Book is roughly 40 chapter, 2-3 of them cover the introduction of Alex and crew. 1 chapter was giving to her travels to the prison, the remaining +25 chapters of the book is her time behind bars. Only 2-3 days passes with Alex behind bars, but the authors felt that this need over 80% of the book, ultimately to end with her not meeting up with her father.

This prison break story is where i think the book fell apart. Authors did really give us an interesting take of a woman's prison, despite being in a foreign country whose lax adherence to the law was mentioned, but it never made an impact on Poe's stay in prison. Poe was never in any real danger, and her escape went relatively smoothly, all of which made the book long and boring.
I will not be reading book 2.

I was pulled into POE from the first page and didn't want to put it down. Brett Battles and Robert Gregory Browne have done a wonderful job, giving me hours of entertainment with their prose, describing the action so well it felt as though I were right there with Alex Poe.

In POE, Alex is a well crafted, believable, kick-ass female protagonist who gives the reader confidence she can and will get results, even though she is up against an incredible tough challenge.

Alex is an intelligent protagonist, she has heart, she's tough, quick-witted and she's written in a realistic manner as are the secondary characters. The characters venture through this thriller having the reader sit on the edge of their seat in this fast paced page turner.

POE is an action packed, electrifying, thriller that will appeal to readers who appreciate a well written, gripping plot, strong, yet vulnerable protagonist, secondary characters you will want to know more about, international intrigue, danger and conspiracy.

I look forward to the next POE thriller.

Loved this book! I'm a big Charlie fox fan so when I heard about this book I downloaded it onto my kindle immediately. I was not disappointed, in fact I couldn't put it down. I will now go and read other Brett battle and Gregory Browne titles. I hope this is the start of a series as I'm hooked and can't wait to know what happens next. I should add that the authors cleverly don't reveal too much about Alex and the other characters' backgrounds so I'm hoping that these will be built on in potential future books.

Robert Gregory Browne and Brett Battles are the French chefs of thriller writers. They take the same type of ingredients down from the shelf that others do -- a kick-ass yet vulnerable heroine, a tough but goofy partner, a prison escape, a blow against terrorism, and a father-daughter estrangement -- and produce something completely out of the ordinary: a sharp, well-seasoned novel that wholly satisfies your thriller appetite.

The plot grips you right off the bat and it was hard for me to put this book down. Interesting action scenes and a nice job of plot twists along the way. Unfortunately most of the secondary characters were stereotypical and not really outstanding but that did not detract from the main plot or characters.

Yet another great read from Battles

I am a great fan of Brett Battles having read all his project Eden books. Jonathon Quin is not my type of story but Alex Poe has now become my new favourite. The story keeps you totally enthralled maintaining the pace right to the end. The story is exciting and logical. I highly recommend this book to any BB fans

Alexandra Poe, a female, was written by two males. Wonderful! Such a great job of writing about several countries as well and a prison in Ukraine! Wow! Amazing wow! 👍🏼

Slow at 1st And then a burst

What is best book that's for sure Really slow really examine are feelings about everything almost like it was written by another person which I would actually believe and finally we got to the end and it was kind of interesting but once again out of the realm of reason

Mediocre Thriller

While this character might have the promise of further development, this first novel did little to make Alexandra Poe a compelling force. The disappearing father is an interesting part of the overall plot but not a new idea.

73-2018. New assassin type person for Mr. Battles. I like her fine, but this had a few too many silly moments. Still, I’ll probably come back to visit with Ms. Poe and her adventures again.

One + One = Three

Put two established thriller authors together on a project and you might see sparks or you might see an implosion. The collaboration on POE, the first Alexandra Poe thriller, results in a nice, tight fireworks display. Maybe not a New Year’s Eve display off the Sydney Harbor bridge, but definitely up there with a mid-sized city’s Independence Day show.

In each other, Brett Battles and Robert Gregory Browne have found a simpatico genre, voice, style and writing partner, and the result is greater than the sum of the parts. And if you’ve read either of these two authors independently, you know their work as individual authors is damn good. Each is a well-known journeyman writer in the thriller genre, and while they’ve never really crossed into each other’s territory, their work on POE is seamless, almost as if each had come up with the idea, the characters and plot on their own and happened to share typing duties.

Alex herself is a terrific protagonist in this particular era, joining the ranks of kick-ass female characters like Zoe Sharp’s Charlie Fox. But Alex is most certainly her own woman, and at no point during the course of this book did I have any doubt about her abilities or how she acquired them.

Her allies in this book, her bounty hunter partner Deuce and former army compatriot Cooper, both of whom look to be recurring characters, are a little less defined, but are both sympathetic due to their loyalty to Alex, and will likely take shape in future books. My only nits were that Deuce didn’t seem to have enough to do, which could make him a third wheel. But the potential for conflict and tension between two guys who obviously care deeply for Alex, though neither is romantically involved (yet), makes this trio a nice device for Battles & Browne in future episodes. (But instead of a little Deuce-Coop—pun intended—in each book, I think the authors ought to really ratchet up the tension by giving these two more to do in their own subplot and making things a little tougher for them instead of simply waiting for Alex to do her thing. Whatever. Not my call.)

Is this great literature? No. But it’s not supposed to be. It is well-written straight-ahead action-adventure that will keep you turning the pages and yearning for more when you’re finished. It's definitely five stars worth of entertainment.

Some things, like bacon and eggs, just go together. Battles-Browne is one of those pairs that complement each other so well you wonder why they didn’t do this a long time ago.

What a page turner!

Alexandra Poe works as a bounty hunter. She had been in the Army and deployed to Iraq. She always felt the need to prove that she was a strong woman and a patriot especially after her father abandoned her as a child and went AWOL from the Army. Supposedly, he worked with terrorists but she never wanted to believe that.

Stonewell Industries is a government security firm. They want Alex to work for them to get El-Hashim out of a Ukranian women's prison. They entice her by saying that El Hashim had met with her father just a few days before she (El-Hashim) was arrested. If Alex helped with this extraction, she could find out where her father is. She signs on.

Her job is to get thrown in prison, which wasn't too difficult, and find El-Hashim and escape the prison with the aid of inside help. But, then there's a rumor that someone else has been sent in the prison to assassinate her target. Finding El-Hashim was easy but how does she get her out of prison alive. And, will she find out about her father. After all, that is the whole reason she took on this assignment.

Good read.

Alexandra Poe can hold her own in the boxing ring and as a bounty hunter, she needs her physical skills as well as mental toughness to survive. Her weakness is her father, who disappeared after her mothers death, and who she still seeks. When Alex is offered the chance to meet someone who might know where her father is, she goes undercover in a Ukrainian jail, risking injury and death for the truth. Poe is a new kickass heroine.

Battles' Quinn series has spoiled me. I can't get enthused about any of the other series he has written, including the Alex Poe series.

That's not necessarily a reflection of Battles', or in this case Brown's, writing, but more a reflection of my expectations from this author. I think he set the bar pretty high with Quinn's Cleaner series.

A buddy of mine gave me the audio book of this one. I have a few Battles on my tbr, so thought I would give it a shot.

Not my usual fair, but this one was not bad at all. I am going to say that it will make a hell of a movie and that’s a bit how it read – more like a screenplay than a novel, which was not necessarily a bad thing. Quick action, a solid protagonist and plenty of action. 3+ Stars.

I am a big fan of the J. QUINN series by BRETT BATTLES so I ordered "POE". It grabs you in after the first couple pages, which is what I like in a book. POE is one tough cookie and I would like to see her do a job with QUINN.... I will order the 2nd book in the Poe series and look forward to any future books.

First of a new series featuring bounty hunter and super tough chick Alexandra Poe. Her job this time around is to break a terrorist out of a foreign prison so that she (the terrorist) can be interrogated by our people--and also possibly give Poe a lead on her long-missing father.

Straightforward competence porn featuring kickass heroine. No big surprises--just good action and suspense. Kind of like a Repairman Jack book, only without the supernatural elements or libertarian ranting. Fun and entertaining. I'm on board for more Poe books.
