It was almost 4 months later that we got the call that our missing hunter had been found. Deceased. The first words out of the Operations Officer's mouth, after saying Sam was found, were "You are going to kick yourself."A volunteer search and rescue dog handler, Rebekkah has always put duty and responsibility first. She lives by the rules, believing that success means having a plan and not deviating from it. Dreams are things that happen at night and don't ever seem to come true for her. Things in Rebekkah's life are about to change, and she’s not really sure she’s ready for it. With her K-9 partners Ariel and Gus, Rebekkah faces decisions that could jeopardize their lives every time they deploy. As she responds to missing person searches through treacherous terrain, emotional battles and bitter disappointment, she finds that there is a fine line between success and failure; but that the search for life is definitely worth the risk.Sharolyn Sievert, a seasoned K-9 handler herself, takes the reader with her on fictional missions in K-9 SEARCH—One Handler’s Journey, weaving the laughter, fears, faith and tears of a life that isn’t sensational or sexy, and definitely not glamorous, but a heartwarming and genuine reflection of a SAR dog handler and her dogs.
I love dogs and love reading about them. Also liked reading about the outdoors. Sharon is an excellent author. Will continue to follow her stories about dogs.
Love, love, love these books. This was the last book I read free on Kindle Unlimited. But it should have been the first one to read. It sets up how Rebekkah met Adam and Pop and the Thwaite sisters. It tells how McCaffrey House came to be. It introduces most of the characters for rest of the books. I was sorry to discover the backbiting and untruths spread about the ER SAR. I'm sure this happens in reality. Love the authir. Love the books. Sweet romance without getting too sticky sweet.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I appreciate the strong Christian influence. The characters are very real and the love and concern given to the dogs touched my heart. This book is very capable of changing lives for the better. Service to others and unselfish actions lived in this book are not common in our world today. Another read as this will be hard to find.
Unfortunately I didn't realize this was part 1, and read the 2nd book 1st. Enjoyed both, but wish I had known there was #1 & #2. If read in order, they are interesting reads, a lot happening throughout the books. Search and rescue, running a B&B for handicapped ppl, plus making friends and maybe finding a love, Rebekka is very busy
Love the details of SAR dogs, handlers, and searches. I'm from a small town and the people are just easy to imagine. I love d the impromptu snowball fight! The fact that the main character is older and single is a nice change from rich men and beautiful women. God is part of the story and woven into it seamlessly.
My hats off to the men and women of this valuable service. The scenes she painted were vivid, especially the freezing cold rain, icy rivers and ponds and stinking muck and mire of bogs. I wrinkled my nose in disgust and wrapped up to keep warm.
Reading stories with K9s has been a favorite for many years. My only disappointment is that too much time was spent describing the Bed and breakfast and all that went along with running it. Needs more on the searches and rescues.
I loved this book even if I did read them out of order! Loved how it tells about training and searching! It's not often you get a book that really lets you feel a part of the deep down gritty feelings that go with the storyline! Beautiful book!
Fantastic 1st book by this author! I was amazed the amount of training these volunteers for SAR go through. The struggles and characters were so heartwarming and love the spiritual meaning that was interwoven throughout the storyline. Will read the next book for sure!
Started and had to finish. Loved the search and rescue, romance, even the bed and breakfast aspect. Enjoyed reading about the characters. Would enjoy a continuation of this book. Would recommend bit as a must read.
I really enjoyed reading this book. So true to life. No bombs exploding and bad guys trying to get the main character. Just real life and what its like to be in SAR. Thank you for your knowledge and a fantastic story....... Now on to the next book.... YES!
Absolutely one of my favorite storytellers. Well written, easy to read and follow with enough mystery and highs and lows to make it intriguing. An interesting subject to me also.
Great story, I know it was fiction but I had to keep reminding myself of that as the story read like I e a personal recounting. Really enjoyed the whole book.
I enjoyed learning about SAR and the effort that people put into it. The closeness of the team members to each other and to their four legged members is awesome. Thank you for a nicely paced story!
I always enjoy well-written books about dogs, and this one is a dandy! Very informative about what it takes to be in Search-and-Rescue, the training, certification, etc. I highly recommend this book, you will love it!
