Designed for the student of God's Word, Pastor Chuck has written a verse-by-verse overview of the Old Testament. As you place this book next to your Bible, you'll discover key words that define Hebrew and Greek words commonly used, biblical maps, charts, diagrams and Calvary Chapel distinctives to help you visualize the text. Also included are introductions and study questions for each book of the Old Testament.
I really and truly love this study guide. This phenomenal book has brought the Old Testament scriptures to life. I have more understanding of the events that took place during those times and what will take place when Jesus returns. The Bible tells us to "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem;" and after reading this book, I have a full understanding of why this is so important. I am in awe of what I have read and learned. One more thing I would like to add, you really need the Old Testament in order to have a full understanding of the New Testament. One example of this is the Book of Daniel to the Book of Revelation. You will be able to see how the Bible comes together. Chuck Smith was truly an anointed man of God. I love how he brings the Word of God to Life. Now I am halfway through the New Testament Book so time to go. Get both the New and Old Testament books by this phenomenal author, you will not be disappointed. These books will open your eyes even the more, cause you to evaluate your own personal life, cause you to meditate on the events that took place, bring about a change in your Christian walk, and cause a yearning deep down within you to ignite like never before. It did for me. He Bless!
I believe I downloaded this e-book from Amazon when it was a free book. I'm not sure if I expected it to be a commentary or a study guide or something else. What it seems to be is a gathering together of notes made for a sermon series or group study the author did. For me, I think I might have gotten more out of it if I'd listened to the entire sermons or been a participant in the group study.
Did I learn some things from the notes? Yes. Do I feel I got everything out of it that the author meant us to? No. Am I sure that everything in this book is Biblically correct? No. I'm not a Bible scholar. I do usually take most studies with a bit of a grain of salt--with the feeling that the interpretations may be those of the author.
Not Particularly good. Smith does offer some interesting tidbits but for the most part this study guide reads like personal notes he took while reading, the kind of notes you might find written in the margins of his Bible. They're the kind of notes that would tend to jog his memory while reviewing them
This is a great book and Chuck is a great Bible teacher. This is a simply and easy to read short commentary on the Old Testament. It has been a blessing to work through the Old Testament using this book as one of my resources.
