I really like this book- it gives a lot of practical tips and suggestions for beginning social workers/therapists. I like the focus on practical application and examples versus theory.

This work provides a practical introduction to social work practice in three sections: a framework of core concepts; the process of assisting clients; and conducting interviews. The centrality of the client's personal situation, especially their cultural and familial background, is emphasized. This is a commendable general introduction to social work with a good balance of theory, research and practice.
