Ava Gold's employment options are rapidly shrinking and, not wanting to go back to driving minicabs, she lands herself a trial run at being nightclub owner Chris Street's personal driver. Chris is one of the men about town in Kellston, East London, and is initially suspicious of having a female driver, but Ava soon proves her worth, and beyond. Still, working for one of the notorious Streets - who have a past history of violence reaching back to the boom time of the sixties - is never going to be easy. Chris' ex-wife is newly involved with his worst enemy and his younger brother Danny and his crazy girlfriend are up to something that will pull Ava into a world of blackmail, murder, sex and greed...

This book tells the story of Ava Gold, a woman in her twenties, who gets a job as night club owner Chris Street's personal driver. The Street family are notorious in East London with a past history of violence going back to the 1960's. Chris is involved with dodgy businesses, while his younger brother Danny is more dangerous and prone to outbursts of violence. The story is mainly set in the entirely fictional East End district of Kellston. So it seems initially that what we have set up here is a story of gangland feuds and disputes and how Ava copes with being a part of this milieu. However, what soon becomes clear is that this book is more like an Agatha Christie whodunit. There are an array of possible murder suspects with a wide range of plausible motives. The plot contains some suprising twists and turns. As an Eastender myself, I don't think the novel catches the atmosphere of the East End. For instance a large part of the story revolves around a taxidermy shop. Really?! However, where it succeeds is in the traditional whodunit format. The various strands of the story are all neatly resolved at the end. This is a very enjoyable book.

I've had this audio book for a while and tried to listen a few times. This time I stuck with it and actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. This is good old British crime fiction. The suspense is good but I saw most of the twists coming. The audio narrator is very good and brought the story alive.

I enjoyed reading this book but felt a little let down by the ending. I’m not sure exactly what it was but I read the last page without feeling that satisfaction that a good ending normally gives me. As this was my first book from this author I’ll try reading another book of hers. Maybe I was just unlucky with this one.

Enjoyed this book, how much bad luck can one girl have! Didn't want to put it down. But at the same time didn't want it to end. Can't wait to start the next book

Second time around, still brilliant! Had me gripped. Involved some police but not a procedural. Shame there was no follow up to this book! Roberta at her best!

Got me out of my reading slump, the way everything was tied together in the last few pages really was shocking, but was a cooling way to end the book.

Streetwise was an ok book but it's not something I'll be wanting to read again anytime soon.

Once I got into it this book was enjoyable, the whole taxonomy thing creeped me out though.

I loved Silver, she was intriguing, a unique character and her relationship with Danny was just as interesting. Eva and Chris were okay but I wanted to see more development between the pair. Now I think about it, none of the characters were likable in a good way, if that makes sense.

At times I felt that there was to much going on and to many characters to keep track of. I understood how the characters were connected and why there was so many point of views but it did turn me off a little.

Ending was good but there was just something a little off about the book as a whole.

I loved three quarters of this book. Very much like Martina Cole, Jessie Keane etc but without the graphic violence. Unfortunately, I had to give up on it. It got WAY too confusing to the point where I couldn't follow all the leads and names and new characters and plots. I just got very, very lost which is a shame as I was enjoying the plot until the confusion kicked in. I found myself having to concentrate so hard to follow at one point. If you like that sort of thing, I absolutely recommend.

Three stars for the excellent start.

This is the first book I've read of Roberta Kray. Due to her connection with the Krays I thought there would have been some East End gangland violence and there wasn't so a little bit disappointed. I did finish the book. The story was ok but not quite the page turner I thought it'd be and somewhat tame for my liking. I'm now reading Strong Women also written by Roberta Kray to see how this one pans out.

This book was a quick read for me and I got it for very cheap on sale and wasn’t expecting much from it. I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the easy going writing style and found it difficult to put down, this was an easy going crime thriller and gripping read. I will be sure to
Check out more from this author. There was a few typos in this book though I’m not sure if that was an issue with publishing and why I got it cheap?

Another brilliant read. Some of my favorite characters from previous books and some new ones too. Same old haunts but not the same old story. A good way of showing that even a white lie can cause a heap load of trouble. Have to get the rest of her books one of my new favourite authors.
