Wonderful Book on Azusa Street Revival

This is the best book on the Azusa Street Revival, that I have ever read. I am going to buy several copies to give out. I so long to experience the events that people during that time experienced. Five stars is what I am giving it and if I could give it higher I would. Brenda

Kind of hard to read because it’s not written very well. What I took away from it is reading about how many young people were involved in healings in this revival, it was pretty interesting.

I had no idea this book existed - found it at a local consignment store. It would have been interesting to read sooner since my Christian roots in the A/G. Modern-day miracles still challenge my faith given my pragmatic leanings, but it inspired me to take the Bible and it's modern-day applications more literally.

Funny thing

Reading about the revival, and the accounts of teenagers then, senior citizens in the 60s, as they told their stories to Tommy Welchel I found myself longing for a revival like that, no, I found myself believing that a revival like that is possible. I found myself praying for impossible things in my daily prayers. I liked that. The reminder to ask for big things from a big God.

Hallelujah

Loved your book. I was raised in the Baptist Church. My father was a deacon. Several years ago I was asked to be music director in my church I accepted and also started to study the book of Acts and seriously asked God why that church wasn’t the church I was music director of. One weekend I told my pastor I was resigning. My daughter asked me to go to an Assembly of God with her and a friend. I did but still didn’t feel the inpouring of The Holy Spirit. I later learned that a previous pastor had also been studying Acts and had been filled with the Holy Spirit. Because of that he was asked to leave the Baptist church he was pastor of. He and his wife came back to the town where I had met them. They started a full gospel church where my husband and I now worship. I thank God every day for them coming back. My husband was also raised Baptist with his Dad being a pastor. He has now fully accepted our beliefs. I had heard of and read a book about Asuza Street and thoroughly enjoyed your book about it and it’s influence on people.

Great account of the miracles and power of God during the Azusa Street revival. The book brings to life the atmosphere and experiences of those involved in this outpouring of Shekinah glory as it enveloped the warehouse as a mist or cloud that would sometimes become so thick that people could not see through it. Tommy Welchel wrote this book (and others) as a fulfillment of the calling on his life to record and later present what happened through Seymour and others about 100 years ago. People were falling out under the power of the Holy Spirit some distance from the warehouse and many miracles happened daily as Tommy describes through eye witness accounts. I highly recommend reading this book.

This is an interesting read. Does God really make short limbs grow to their normal size? heal people with Downs Syndrome? cause an ear to grow when the original ear is cut off and lost? I have no doubt He can, but I found many of these stories unbelievable. When the author recounts the story of amazing healings inside a prison, including "the head guy who decides who lives and who dies," he reveals his hand. In the US, there is no prison "head guy" who does this. This author does not tell about people who got saved and quit the sin business. What seems important to him is that people are healed and speak in tongues. Nothing about a supernaturally changed life through the Blood of Jesus.

This is a collection of stories of the miraculous happenings during the Azusa Street Revival during the early part of the last century. These stories were collected by oral tradition by a young man who was a Native American from some of the men and women who ministered at the revival. That man was later interviewed by the author of this book. The book describes many healings, including missing body parts which grew out in front of everyone. There is also a mention of the Shekinah Glory, a cloud containing the presence of God, which characterized these meetings.

William Seymour, father of the Asuza Street revival that lasted 3 and a half years(same time as the Christ ministry when he walked the earth in the flesh) prophesied together with Mary Woodworth Etter that in 100yrs time from their day 1906, a greater revival will sweep the earth. We are living in such a time.

It was humbling, inspiring & super exciting to read about what a Great move to God can do through ordinary men, women, girls & boys.

True Stories of the Miracles of Azusa Street and Beyond

A very inpiring book. I had never heard of the Miracles there before. It happened over 3 years, though many miracles continued after that. A thick mist would form in the building and at times flames would rise and fall there. Many people were healed from many diseases and problems of many causes. The author of this book was one of the people doing the Miracles through Christ.

I wanted to know more about the miracles God performs today. Does God still do miracles in our modern world? Has He 'moved on?'

The first part is recounted stories of the Saints. The last half are about miracles being performed now. GOD really is working today. It was incredibly convicting to see not just healing miracles. I think we all know about those. There were financial, resurrection, musical, and so much more. What a great read.

Supernatural Evidence that demands a verdict

If you are interested in a faith that is more than words, this is a book about the supernatural and the continued development of the Pentecostal movement.

There is also a tremendous one hundred year prophecy related in this story that came out of the Azusa Revival… There is another revival coming which will be greater and affect the whole world !

We have been waiting for this and I believe we are on the doorstep.

Full disclosure: I did not finish this book. It is poorly written, poorly edited, and has nothing more substantial than one person's unverifiable claim that numerous elderly (now deceased) individuals recounted their stories to him. I'm not saying they are fiction. I'm just saying they're unverifiable. Plus I didn't even enjoy the book, hence not finishing it.

Intersting

I've always heard about the Azusa street revival but never actually read anything of the experiences there.
I'm still wary of the Pentecostal movement's doctrines that seem to lean more towards personal experience even if same d experience has absolutely no foundation in Scripture. To me that's concerning.

Mixed feelings about this book. I’ll always rejoice in the testimonies of God, but the writing is subpar. I also wonder why few names were given of those healed. That record would be wonderful for church history. I appreciated learning little things about Azusa like Seymour wearing the black box. I’d never heard of that part.

This book stirred me and shifted me from my slump if you will. Reading the stories brought tears to my eyes as I asked God what has happened to us. We have chased signs when signs should be following us. I feel a stirring in my spirit. All is not lost. This book makes me want to read more as well as seek God more.

I have trouble believing this book as true. There seems to be too much chaos in the meetings. It seems to be a bragging book of things they’ve done. They talk about the greatest miracles as physical healing, yet I believe the greatest miracle is the work of grace, redemption.
