A bittersweet and thoughtful love story that will linger with you. Travis Thrasher is being called the Nicholas Sparks of Christian fiction.

I remember reading this years ago, talking ten-plus years, and liking it. Continuing my journey of rereading books that have been on my shelves for so long I picked this up to see if it was worth keeping on the shelf. I made it 108 pages before DNF-ing. The prologue was intriguing. I felt like I was reading a sweet Hallmark movie but like one of their original *good* ones, ya know? But then the author got preachy. Now, don't get me wrong, I have no problem with book characters having a belief and a faith in God whatsoever. And in this story the FMC has a strong faith and the MMC questions if a god exists, and that's okay. Having questions is okay. What I did not appreciate what how I felt like the author was shoving *his* belief down my throat. Sharing/explaining your faith with others is something I am fine with, but not when it is forced on me.

Content Warnings up to page 108- Mentions of a character "curse"; Mention of Death of Parent; Mention of Parent Abandoning family; Mention of Death of Spouse; Mention of Cancer; Minor Injury; Mention of Divorce

For me, this book earned 5 stars. I read it pretty much in one sitting. This is a Christian love story at it's finest. However, it doesn't only talk about God, knowing him, and loving him. However, it does give you a lot to think about when it's all said and done. I highly recommend this book to EVERYONE, especially if you like love stories, ones where you are not sure if they will end up together or not, but you root that they do. I don't want to give any spoilers, because I really think you should read this book. Another review mentioned that the would be a great Hallmark movie and I would completely agree with that. It is also one I would watch.

I really liked it. It wasn't bold or life-changing for me, but it has the potential to be so for others. "The Promise Remains" addresses a familiar situation realistically. This book is sweet, simple, gentle, and wholesome, and I recommend it whole-heartedly.

The Promise Remains

Definitely a bit more melodramatic than I remembered haha, but overall I still really loved it. Also I low key feel like it could work as a Hallmark movie!!!!!

I read this story when it was first published and again just recently. It was good to realize that if I were reading it for the first time today that I would still look for more books by author Travis Thrasher.

Thrasher's characters aren't perfect people living in a bubble. The reader can usually find something to identify with in each character -- the pain of the situation, the joy of loving someone. And, always, Thrasher points the reader to God and our need for Him in our lives.

This story is so beautiful to me. It opens up your heart to faith and the idea that if something is meet to be then there is nothing in this world that will stop it from happening. True love, True faith, and holding on to your beliefs no matter what. I cried, I laughed and I couldn't stop reading. I love this story from the very first page.

The Promise Remains is a heart-tugging tale of the longing, struggles, and commitment of young love. Ultimately, it’s also a story of the gracious providence of God. I welcome this enjoyable first novel by Travis Thrasher and am delighted to recommend it.

I read this when I was younger. It is Christian fiction but I do not think that should ruin the novel for you because it is about more than God. The religion is more in the background. However, the ending is satisfying after so much heart ache.

Now I'm not a religious person, but I do believe there's something out there after death. This books focus wasn't just focused on Christ but instead of true love and the characters own religious views . I enjoyed this book for it being the first of its kind that I've read

I love this author, but this was his first book, and it wasn't too great. It's very repetitive to read. Each chapter feels like the one before it. It's a pretty boring story line.

When you hold out for and hold on to the one you truly love regardless of time or distance -- even if it is only with a promise (for the time being), there will come a time for 'happily every after'!

I was torn, but in love with this at the same time. Words and emotions are powerful, even when one is young. They can last and stay with you a lifetime.
