"The Broken Heart Surgeon" is what they call me. TV viewers loved seeing a top flight heart surgeon with a loving family, a man who had everything, make a single tragic mistake, something so minor that if I had done it in a bar I would have gotten laid or bitch-slapped. Who in the world would have ever thought it would have led to this. I know I didn't. Doing twenty years in a maximum-security prison. Surrounded by people I paid a great deal of money to live away from on the outside. So this is how it ended. Me behind bars. Explaining to you everything that happened in the middle will take awhile, but what the hell does it matter. Telling you how it all began is easy. I remember it like I remember my name, like the first time I made love to my wife, like the day my first child was born. It all started simply enough. It all started with just a little tweak.

Several years ago, I was invited by Brett Arquette to read Operation Hail Storm, and I could see after only a few pages that was not for me. I politely declined to review it but wished him luck.

Since then, I've seen all of his fake bots, sock puppets, whatever we're calling them today, promoting all of his titles. It is outrageous and infuriating. These fake reviewers write short "reviews" on thrillers by writers like John Grisham and Harlen Coben, and then they "like" each other's reviews so their reviews rise to the top of the Goodreads charts.

Sounds innocent, right? But in their 'reviews', they always say how good Brett Arquette's Hail series is compared to Grisham or Coben.

At the moment, they all have 0 friends and 40-50 books and only a handful of reviews. They almost all have a single name, sometimes kind of weird ones. Just have a look at the first many 5* reviews of Hail Sting. Then click on the reviewers name and see the next couple of reviews they've done (scroll down on their own page) and click on THAT review. There is where you'll see the Arquette promotion.

I would rather Brett write good books instead of gaming the system like this.

There are other 'reviewers' blackmailing authors that they will downgrade their books unless they are paid.

There's one in every crowd, eh?

Arquette continues to spam Goodreads users (including kids) about his latest book. If you look at user-submitted questions (on Operation Hail Storm), you can see there are many people who have received multiple copies of his spam letter, all from quickly-deleted accounts. This is in clear violation of Goodread's Terms of Service. This IS NOT how a good author gets the word out about his book. If you have received spam from one of his deleted accounts, please report him here

Sorry - maybe I have a bad copy?

Sorry Brett. I could not finish this book. The premise is very good and I can't wait to read the story but I had to stop at page 39. I kept waiting for the spelling and grammatical errors to stop but there are way too many to ignore. Sorry.

If you love twists and turns in the story This is Must Read!

I hAve read a number of books by this author. I loved them all but by far this is the best one. It was written in first person and it was so well done you got wrapped up in all the drama. From how could you be so stupid to how unfair , I read this non stop in a day. Great Read..

Enjoyable read!

A bit like watching a train wreck, but with many more surprising twists and turns. Zillions of typos, which is also surprising, but overall an enjoyable read!
