At only eighteen-years-old, Amber Ashborne is sole heir to the throne of Ashborne, the most powerful kingdom in Everrathe. In an attempt to earn the love and approval her emotionally abusive father has never given, the future queen raised herself to be the son he could never have; forgoing the ease and luxury of a princess's life for that of the sword and steel of a knight's.
However, the king's disdain would not be overcome, and under the weight of the Ashborne crown, the young princess resigned herself to a loveless life of battle, guilt and torment. Until fate crosses her path with a mysterious young man named Emoren.
Amber is caught off guard as the young commoner effortlessly breaks through the walls surrounding her, bringing an unfamiliar light to her dark, battle-ridden world. And despite being preserved for royal engagement, the future queen can't deny the feelings that quickly seize her heart. Little does she know, these forbidden feelings will not only shape her future, but that of an entire kingdom.
Loved it !!!Got this book free from a amazon and put off reading as I knew it was going to be long time before the rest of the series was going to be coming out but I pick this book to read last night and couldn't stop reading it's exactly what I was looking for. I need the rest of the series to come out NOW!! I only have two problems so far with this series:one is that were one or two small typing errors but I really can't complain about that, the other is the full price of these books they are after all only novellas and are less than 100page each and I feel as though the author is going to loose lot of readers before they even open the book as there are so many free and cheaper books out there. But worth the read and will be watching out for the rest of the series.
This was an interesting short story about a princess who acted more like a soldier.
Amber had some hidden secrets about why she behaved the way she did, but she did her job as a soldier with real passion and devotion. It was sad the way her father treated her, and the way he made her feel like she was worthless, but Amber’s inner strength shone through.
The storyline in this was pretty good, and I enjoyed the story. The pacing was just about right, and I liked that we got a little bit of romance thrown in there, but it wasn’t too much.
The ending left us with a bit of a cliff-hanger, so it’s on to the next book to find out what happens next! 6.5 out of 10
Ashborne is the first book in the Ashborne Saga. The book is really short. I wish the ideas had been expanded on. Great story idea and was a good read.
I read this series super quick, it probably took me about 3 hours maybe less. As most were free thanks to kindle unlimited so I just sped through them fast. I'll just copy and paste this review for all three of the books I read, as I'm lazy and the points are the same for each book regardless of the ending of each of them.
So this series is pretty weak, it has so many possible good things going for it and then it poof falls a little flat. The story line is good, the writing is good but it isn't great, and to be quite honest it could be! The scene is set so well but it just isn't developed enough. Her descriptions of the surroundings are pretty good I felt like I was there but it just wasn't very strong. The main is pretty weak willed, she has little personality and actually for someone to be 'quite strong' she is very weepy. Like she cries quite a bit and quite regularly.
With this all being said I did enjoy this book series which is why its a 3 and not a 2. It isn't fair to mark it higher just because I liked it when it is not in the same level as some books which can be strong 5 stars. It just isn't... This series could have been so much better, and it didn't need to be 3 books it could have been fleshed out to be a very strong stand alone book and I think it would have been a pretty good read then. Pretty disappointed it was so short but hey I liked what I did read.
This was a really great story done horribly wrong. It was a period/kingdom setting with casual, modern, improper dialog. I can't even chalk it up to it being for a juvenile not YA audience, because there are a handful of scenes and innuendo that are in no way suitable for that younger audience. There are words such as 'regal' and 'blonde' which were so terribly over used that I should have kept count. This is a 4-5 star story and despite the word repetition and almost-there editing, the writing was good, too. The two, however, are quite tragically mismatched. It was distracting and annoying and I can't read on no matter how much I'd like to know the rest of the story. Speaking of which, it also ends abruptly with all its ends loose. All three books appear to be short novellas that add up to a single, complete book/story. It would come across as smarter marketing to offer the first three chapters for free and a whole, single book for whatever cost than to chop up the story and attempt to collect full price for each of the second two segments.
The story is original and really interesting, so awesome points for that. My problem was the characters and the love story. There wasn't enough of a story between the characters for the love to be believable, and the characters were pretty stagnant. Also, the book was lacking the polished feel that comes with a final editing session and Beta reading. I wanted so much more from this story than I was able to get.
This book was well written and had likable characters. The action was believable, and had a good pace. I finished wanting to know what would happen next, but also not caring too much at the same time. I don't usually read romance books, so I think the desire to not read on comes from that. An overall good read all the same.
I really did like this book, I usually don't read books that are this short, but since the trilogy is complete I figured why not? It was worth the read and now I'm going to one click the complete set since I just read book one for free. Definitely would recommend it!!
