Sydney Fitzpatrick #4.5

The Last Second: A Novella

Rate this book
Covert agent Zachary Griffin and FBI Special Agent Sydney Fitzpatrick are sidetracked from an ongoing investigation to follow up on a potential lead. In a small Arizona border town, gunrunning and drug trafficking into Mexico are a part of the landscape—but not when they're orchestrated by an officer in uniform. At least that's the story told to agents Griffin and Fitzpatrick.

But the dirty cop is now missing, and his sister says he's innocent, a victim of a corrupt police department. She is convinced they set him up to take the fall, then killed him, and she can prove it—with help from a highly unusual witness. Suddenly an open-and-shut case seems anything but, and the clock is ticking as Griffin and Fitzpatrick take on an entire police department in a deadly match that could go up in smoke at the last second.

This is the second book I have read by Robin Burcell. The Last Second's contents are much like her other book- strong characters, a lot of knowledge of FBI procedures, and a strong storyline. Burcell's novella held my interest to the last page, and I loved the dynamic ending which I won't spoil by giving details. The main character, Sidney Fitzgerald, is a force to reckon with. Sidney is focused, intelligent, brave, and bold. She and her partner work together like yin and yang, a perfect match. I'm giving 4.5 stars to Burcell, and I look forward to my next Sidney Fitzgerald read.

I've been going to bed with Robin Burcell the last few weeks, and I have really been satisfied. BY WHAT IVE READ!" I want to read the series in order, so I started with the first book, "Face of a Killer", and got hooked. Well written, great characters, and well researched.

Out of order. This should have been included with The Blacklist! I really strongly dislike reading out order. It would have been a nice little side story if read in correct sequence!!! Hence less than 5 stars.

Okay this was a beautiful little novella. Or the be more fair it packs a punch.
First off that the dog is the key point of this mystery makes it all the more interesting.
Secondly how quickly it moves is just beautiful. It is also very succinct.
It is a worthy read of the series.

a dog saves the day

A couple of FBI agents get distracted from their mission by a dog waiting for his lost/dead master. A fun little caper, but it ended with a major question unresolved in my mind. What was on the one agent’s mind that he needed to talk about?

The Last Second: A Novella (Kindle Edition)
by Robin Burcell

This is a fun little read. Good time for less than a buck. Kind of like a snack, instead of a meal.

Always good to read a story about Sydney and Zach. They get to do a little more than they planned on during their trip to Arizona. Guns, dynamite, dirty cops and a dog pining after his master, perfect ingredients for a short tale.

I give this novella 4 Stars out of 5. Buy it if you need something to read this afternoon, and would like a preview of Robin Burcell's upcoming novel, The Kill Order.

Be careful, Zachary.

Sydney and Griffin are inside McMahon and Sons Mining, looking for Calvin Walker, a cop who was suspected of working with Mexican Cartels. However, Trish (Calvin's sister) insists on his innocence and he was framed.

Turns out the police department is working for Garrett Quindlen, a suspected dirty cop.

Short but excellent read, as usual with Robin Burcell's stories - packed with thrill and excitement.

Nothing short of excellent and as usual love Robin Burcell's stories to bits.

Nicely written story, with appropriately evil villans.

This is a very short story, only 75% of it is The Last Second.

It includes a portion of the next novel - set in my home town!

Can't wait to read the rest of it.

First time reading this author. Even though this was short, it was a pretty good intro to this series. Will definitely be looking for more Sydney and Zack!

Too many characters

Too many names to remember. I'm not really sure what it was about. How did the dog get out of the tunnel?

Not normally something I would read, but had it's moments of intrigue. The excerpt for The Kill order was pretty good. Might be something I look into reading.
