Detective Aiden Cooper was a vampire who spent the last 150 years awaiting the return of his long lost love Abigail. He was promised by a witch, who also happened to be Abigail's mother, that her soul would return to him in her next life.
Melissa Salazar was a formidable attorney living in Los Angeles and no stranger to the paranormal. Deciding a fresh start was in order and wanting to be closer to her best friend Aria, Melissa sells her practice and moves in to a beautiful Colonial style house that is owned by Aria and her husband Dominic. Little did she know that move would change her life forever.
One fateful night, Aiden finds Melissa brutally beaten and left for dead. As he rushes to her aid a familiar scent lingers in the air. Aiden looks down at the woman he cradles in his arms... could this be Abigail?
This is the second book in the curse breaker series. It follows The House. This story is about Melissa.
Melissa is a high powered attorney in California. She is a strong and caring woman. She has decided to see her practice and move back east. Her best friend's husband gives her a house to live in that has been in the family for hundreds of years. She starts a practice of family law out of the home office. She does divorces and wills for the people in the town. Things change dramatically for her when she takes in a client named Elise. Elise's husband is a thug. He beats her and when people cross him they come up missing. Melissa refuses to back down from him and things for her go from bad to worse.
Aiden is a cop in the town that Melissa moves too. He is a vampire who has waited 150 years for his love's soul to be reborn again in his lifetime. Aiden save's Melissa from the goons attack. What happens next is a whirlwind romance that is made for the ages.
There are witches and propheies that must be contended with. There are stubborn woman who need protected and feel the need to protect other's at all costs. This book is full of hot sex and passion. The love that these couples have nothing can stop.. Not death, not thugs and certainly not a prophecy. Can true love win out over death and fear? Can the love of a woman save a man from the curse of the vampire? Read The Colonial and find out. You will not be disappointed. There is drama, there is love, there are villians and there are true romantic heros. Charlie has written and excellent second book in this series. I could not put it down and am looking forward to the next book.
I was intrigued by the book's description. I mean a Vampire possibly turning back to human. Two souls connected, destined to find one another again. That is pretty cool. The story starts off well with a prologue introducing you to Aiden and explaining his Vampire curse. Then the main story starts off sluggish for me. There is alot of space in between characters interactions so it is filled with over detailing. It's basically a map of each turn she made in the house and EVERYTHING she saw. Jeez. The story gets better though once "people" start piling in and filling in the voids. The book the book then picks up. Hopes in this book being remotely good where diminished once I got to chapter 12.
I think that the concept is great and the story can be even better if it was re-edited. If that was done I think that this would be an outstanding book. So in my rating of this book I was a little peeved with certain parts and wanted to give this book 1 star out of 5. I know I had to look past how I felt emotionally and give an appropriate rating and for me it has to be 2 stars out of 5. That doesn't mean I hated it, it means it was okay.
**SPOILER**I was very disappointed in this second book of the series. The spelling and grammar errors were just as prevalent here as in the first. The intent was there, but wasn't followed through in a very smooth way. The first 7 chapters were dull. Too much time was spend describing how each room of the house was being decorated. By the time she finally meets Aiden, things speed up, almost too fast. There was too much detail that seemed to be left out, or the book could have been made longer to account for other things. I mean seriously? You find out the man you fell in love with within the first 10 minutes is a vampire and it's no big deal? Never even crossed her mind. And Melissa was raped! Three weeks later she's having hot, passionate sex? Strong woman.
I'll stop my review right here so as not to discourage other from reading this book. If you can get past the errors, punctuation and spelling, it's a great read.
