This is an enjoyable, tense horror story. It is a lot of fun even if most readers will see some things coming. Just like knowing that Jack is going to pop out of the Jack-in-the-box, but still having a start when he does because you don't know when. Even though it is a short story, the author does a good job of setting the mood and developing the characters.
This would be an excellent prequel to a zompoc series. The horde of bugs following the infected by smell yet leaving the alive and unbitten alone. Yep it would make a great book. I would read it. As for the story itself, it's very good, just wish it had been longer. This author seems to have a real ability to draw you in quickly with characters coming to life after only a few sentences. But then, that just makes you want more. Hint hint. A new favorite author for me, just wish he'd written more full length books. And did I mention..more?
If you've ever watched the Poseidon Adventure, where as people dwindle along the way you keep hoping that someone at least one person makes it...this book makes you think like that...whilst confirming my personal distrust of insects....
