Updated version with full colour illustrations. When Queen Beatrice visits the royal family of Norway, she receives a lovely surprise gift, a cute fluffy kitten. She names the kitten Albert and brings him home to live in the palace. As Albert grows up he gets into all kinds of trouble. Albert has many friends at the palace, including Isabelle the Chambermaid, Gerard the Butler, Angus the Chauffeur, Norman the Grenadier Guard, Princess Sophie, Prince Nicholas and his best friend Sergeant Major, the Magpie. Albert travels to lots of lovely places with the Queen, meets lots of nice people and some not so nice. If Albert does not like you, then watch out. His favourite trick is rubbing his paws on the carpet and giving you a nasty electric shock, which can be painful.Albert loves to roll in smelly horse poo and it’s usually left to Isabelle to bath him before the Queen finds out. Life is good at the palace and Albert makes the most of his position as The Queen’s Cat.In this story Albert wonders if the Queen has remembered his first anniversary at the royal palace and he also meets an unfriendly dog.
This was a little cute. You can't really tell that it takes place in Denmark, outside of the name of the queen and the king of Sweden. But the illustrations were lovely and the story had some humor.
this story is meant to be funny but really it just showed two animals being mean to each other. when one wrung was fine to one animal the other retaliated on the other. this is not teaching children good manners
The Queen's Cat: First Year at the Palace is the story of a cat named Albert who gets up to mischief when an unwanted visitor, Oscar the dog, visits one day to see the Queen.
I'm not sure what I think of this book. It's a strange length that's not really a picture book or a chapter book and I don't think it shows a very good example to children when Albert is being mean to Oscar and finding it funny. I think this would have been better in the story if Albert learnt his lesson on not being nasty and mean but he just gets away with it at the end and leaves everyone assuming Oscar was the naughty pet.
The illustrations are cute and show the day well and all the silly things they got up to but I till don't think it makes up for Albert not learning his lesson and being nasty to Oscar. If he did learn his lesson then I could accept all he's done in the book. I'm not sure I'd recommend this book as I think it shows children that it's ok to misbehave and let everyone else believe it was someone else.
The Queen's Cat is the first in the series of stories about a mischievous cat called Albert who lives with a Queen in a royal palace.
In this tale, Albert is expecting a party in his honour, celebrating his first year living in the palace. He is disappointed when he sees King Frederik of Sweden and his dog Oscar arriving at the palace to visit the Queen.
Oscar is sent to play with Albert. Cats and dogs do not make the best friends, and soon Albert has enlisted his friend Sergeant Major the magpie to help get rid of the dog.
The Queen's Cat will appeal to younger children who will be amused by Albert's naughtiness, and delighted with the charming illustrations that accompany the story.
I liked the part when Albert makes a plan to drop a bag of horse poo on Oscars head it was really funny . And when Albert thought Queen Beatrice forgot his birthday or celebration and every one else thought that too it was funny is well that book was really fun.
As per previous reviews, this book is quite short. It took me all of 5 minutes to read. There’s not much of a good message on how to behave with guests for children in it either. The illustrations were quite good though.
Loved that the story involved the natural dislike that cats and dogs have for one another and that at the end of the story Albert said he would be nicer to others.
