This is a coming-of-middle-age story of an accomplished housewife who one day finds herself on a highway running away from home. To everyone else, Anna Miller has it all, a successful marriage, a beautiful home, good friends, and children she can be proud of. Join Anna on The Drive of a lifetime as she relives over twenty years of marriage and family, the good and the bad, and discovers what had possessed her to take the right toward the highway instead of the left toward the grocery store one morning.
Van Kim Le is an avid reader first and foremost. She enjoys getting lost in a good story, often neglecting chores and other important life things. Writing is her way of decompressing after a long day at the office. She believes that books shouldn’t be complicated and that length isn’t essential in the making of a good story. She works hard at keeping lengthy characterization and background information to a minimum, leaving only what is crucial to the story. She considers, ‘that was an easy read’ to be a compliment. I'm a bit unsure whether or not I would rate this a 4 or 3 based on the Goodreads rating scale, but I can definitely say that I liked this book. I won it in a FirstRead giveaway, and I was reading a few other books, but I put them all down for this one when I started having some doubts about my life. Since this book was supposed to be a "coming of middle age" story, I assumed the main character would figure things out by the end, so I thought it might help me come to conclusions for myself (despite that I'm not quite at middle age). I was going through the book, and I related to the main character on so many levels, but then right as the main character started figuring things out, the things she decided could not be related to me. If I had felt it more applicable to my life, I probably would have rated it an easy 4, but as it is now, I'm on the edge. I think this book is most applicable to women who have children, particularly children who are older in high school or college.
