Adam Blade is the house name for the Working Partners Ltd. ghostwriters who write the Beast Quest and Sea Quest series.

Adam Blade is in his late twenties, and was born in Kent, England. His parents were both history teachers and amateur artists, and Adam grew up surrounded by his father’s paintings of historic English battles – which left a lifelong mark on his imagination. He was also fascinated by the ancient sword and shield that hung in his father’s office. Adam’s father said they were a Blade family heirloom.

As a boy, Adam would spend days imagining who could have first owned the sword and shield. Eventually, he created a character – Tom, the bravest boy warrior of them all. The idea for Beast Quest was born.

When Adam grew up and decided that he wanted to be a writer, he was stuck for ideas – until he remembered the old sword and shield, and the imaginary boy he had created when he was young. Adam decided to bring Tom fully to life so that readers could go on the kind of adventures that he always wanted to when he was that age… And still does, even though he’s grown up!

When he’s not writing Beast Quest books, Adam enjoys visiting museums and ancient battle sites. His main hobbies are fencing and football. He also spends a lot of time at home running around after his two exotic pets – a tarantula named Ziggy, and a capuchin monkey named Omar. These little rascals were the inspiration for two of the Beasts that Tom faces on his Quest – Arachnid and Claw.

Sadly, Adam does not have his own Fire-Dragon or Horse-Man. But he really wishes he did!

This is the conclusion of the first story arc of this series, and so there is a lot of wrapping up of loose ends done here. The identity of the villain is revealed. While not all that shocking, it makes sense in story terms.

This book also introduces Kraya, the last of the robobeasts from this initial story arc. Kraya is literally a "shark with laser beams coming out of its head"! Clearly "Adam Blade" an Austin Powers fan.

Kraya actually has more to do in this story than the robobeasts in the two middle volumes of the arc, and he gets some of the best scenes. The first few chapters are a bit slow, but once the action gets going it's non-stop (well, up to the epilogue-ish final chapter, but that bit does it's job well too).

There are some really creative dangers that Max and Lia face and some genuinely exciting escapes.

Also, kudos to Adam Blade for including a female unnamed henchperson in a scene. No, really. I have gotten on Blade's case for not giving the female companion characters enough to do and for using them in stereotypical roles (and that does happen a bit here, but it was a clever scene that I was good with), but a nice small step in the right direction is including diversity in the background roles. So, yay for unnamed henchwoman! Hope you managed to escape when everything started blowing up!

This was a good, satisfying ending to the first four books, and my son enjoyed it quite a bit, especially Kraya's scenes.

The fourth book in the Sea Quest series concludes the first stage of the series' plot and is therefore quite a bit more epic than the previous ones. Although in a very small volume - 128 pages - it manages to offer the reader non-stop action, and if I must be honest, this appeals not only to the youngest.

With his victory against the giant stingray Manak, young Max has managed to collect three pieces of the mythical skull of Thallos. Now, however, he will face his mysterious enemy the Professor, heading to his lair together with his loyal friends - Princess Lia, Spike the swordfish and Rivet the dogbot. But in their path, the villain has prepared the most fearsome monster yet - the blood shark Kraya, a powerful beast that he has ordered to tear Max to pieces!

This time, the author who wrote the book under the pseudonym "Adam Blade" has outdone himself. This time we dive directly into the action and already in the first third of the volume there is a powerful fight with the shark, and then it continues through a confrontation with the Professor and finally the shark returns for more dizzying performances. The finale of the book promises more adventures and I would be happy if I could review them as well.

Book four of the series and like others in team Blade books this arc of the story concludes, although there are plenty of unresolved questions and other matters, including another elusive bad guy. Entertaining enough but it is pretty generic fare.

Simple and plot-driven futuristic quest to save Aquora City from the evil Professor who wants to conquer all lands under and over the sea. Young Max North and his father, Callum (Head Defence Engineer), are fighting time. Max’s mother Niobe mysteriously disappeared 10 years before, and now Callum has been kidnapped by the Professor and is trapped somewhere under the ocean’s depths. The Merryn sea-people, who can live under water but not above it, do not trust ‘Breathers’ like Max and Callum, but Callum has been befriended by the Merrin king’s daughter, Lia. Together they begin their frantic search and survive their encounter with the vicious Professor, saving Callum and many other humans and Merryns. This very simple tale would suit readers of about 7-8 years.

Fazit? Ein würdiges Ende der ersten Runde. Ich bin schon auf Runde 2 gespannt.

Wrapped up the first 'quest' quite nicely yet left enough tid-bits for further adventures that leaves you wanting more. Max's story isn't over yet....
