Bought this to get ideas for my son's 3rd birthday and ended up making the balloon cake. It was ('scuse the pun) a piece of cake so each year I've tried another: the pirate cake for his 4th, castle cake for his 5th, sweet-guzzling monster for his 6th, ski cake for his 7th and rugby cake for his 8th. Have also made the sunflower cake and the malteser checkerboard for friends. Good fool-proof recipes and really lovely ideas. I get loads of compliments from kids and mothers alike. Have since graduated and now go off-piste making baseball cap and burger cakes for example but still always use the book as guideline for quantities of fondant/ready rolled icing and recipes for the cakes. This book is a little gem if you want to make imaginative children's birthday cakes that work every time.
