Me encantó. (reseña dictada por mi hija)

My kids received this for Christmas from their Uncle. He looked at me as they opened it "This is a really great book, you are going to love it". I opened the book... there were no words. Now any parent knows that one of the most important aspects to a good book is readability, the prose needs a good rhythm to make it easy to read - over and over and over again. So when I realised this book did not have words I grimaced. This was going to be work.

From my five-star rating it should be obvious that I was pleasantly surprised. This is a fabulous book and I have thoroughly enjoyed sitting with my children (2yo and 4yo) reading this book to them. If this were a movie we would call it an ensemble movie, it is full of characters that weave amongst themselves throughout the book. We did a fair amount of backtracking when we noticed a character and were interested to see where that character began.

My 2yo was hooked on the story of the baby bunny that lost its stuffed toy, while my 4yo understood far more of what was going on and loved the conclusion as all the characters found their happy endings.

Enjoyment
Illustrations: 5/5 - This book was about the amazing illustrations
Readability: 5/5 - It was great discussing the characters and what was happening to them
Storyline: 5/5 - Fantastic (I realise I say this a lot... but I only review the 5-star children's books).

Where is the Cake is a picture book that tell a story through photos. The books shows a group of animals who are all living out difference scenarios on the page. The animals are all preparing for a get together in the park, however the two cakes for the party have been stolen by raccoons. Through all of the chaos of daily life, the cakes are finally retrieved and everyone can enjoy themselves and each others company.
The theme of this story is community and quality time.
I enjoyed this book because it helped me use my imagination and make inferences about the story. There is a lot going on in the story so there are many illustrations to observe and create your own story about.
I recommend this book because it harnesses imagination and creativity because there aren't any words to tell the reader who to think or what is exactly going on.

"Where is the Cake?" by T.T. Khing. This is a wordless picture book that travels through different landscapes to find the stolen cake. The setting of the story takes place outside in different types of areas including the forest and cliffs. The illustrator's style was to add many different elements to each drawing. This is a way to engage kids when reading or looking at the pictures. Within each picture, there are different things happening all over the page. This made looking at the illustrations more fun. The introduction of the story is on the first page with the cake is stolen from the dogs. The resolution of the story is when the cake is found and each character gets to eat a piece of the cake. This picture book is for emerging readers because there are no words and it is easy to follow. The story is fun and engaging but it is just a book for kids being introduced to reading.

This book is pure storytelling. There are no words, so if you can only find a foreign language edition, no worries. The story is funny, suspenseful, and packed with details. Without the benefit of words there's foreshadowing, twists, and many events that happen between page turns and that require a little fun puzzling out. It's an absolutely brilliant and beautiful book.

Simply brilliant concept. It's not the type of book to just read, you really have to put some work into it. But the possibilities are endless.

At first, the idea of a wordless book sounded silly and kind of pointless to me. I was completely proven wrong with this book. The book is completely told through illustrations without a single word in the book. I actually really liked this! I had to look over the book a few times before I was completely able to follow it so I think it would be appropriate for 2nd or 3rd grade. This book allows you to use your imagination and at the age of 7 and 8 children are constantly using their imagination. The main conflict in the book actually starts on the cover which I also thought was pretty cool. A cake is stolen from 2 dogs by two opossums. The dogs chase the opossums throughout the entire book but what makes it especially fun is that a new conflict arrises with each page. Other characters encounter problems as the dogs are chasing the opossums through the woods and mountains. When I first read the book I was only paying attention to the cake and the characters involved in the chase for it. I was confused by the other characters and did not really know why they were even in the book until I read it again and actually tried to follow each character. The book ends with everyone resolving their problem and the dogs get their cake back and share it with everyone. The illustrations are very detailed and just so fun to look at. I really, really enjoyed looking through this book multiple times. The pathways in each illustration made it a bit easier to follow. I think children would absolutely love to look at this book and give their own voice to what the characters are saying and what they think is happening. I would love to watch a child "read" this book and see what they come up with. This would be a great book to show to a classroom before they begin writing their own story. You could have them make up a story of their own to go along with the pictures so they are comfortable using their imagination and coming up with a story before they are put out on their own to completely write a story by themselves. I am definitely going to be using wordless books in my classroom!

This was book two of my "picture book without words" exploration. Several story lines are happening in this book and I can see how a child would have a blast exploring what they see. I imagine each time they sit with this book a new story would pop out at them.

I have to admit I got a kick out of the "translated from original Dutch" credit. (The only thing that needed translating was the title!) But this drives home a powerful point -- Pictures are indeed worth a thousand words. The universal language!

What a wonderful children's book (with no words). It's not just about finding the cake that the rats steal on each page (there's one page where it has disappeared), but following all the different characters, and the front cover is the start of the book. It is wonderful, and one can find new things every read. Watch the turtle, badger, lost duckling and the soft toy as well as the main key players.

This is a wonderful wordless book. A librarian reccommended that I read the book. Animals are present throughout the entire story. The animals have a cake and throughout the book the cake keeps getting taken away and hidden. This book would benefit readers who struggle with words. The book can easily be told through different perspectives depending on what the reader decides the book portreys.

Iedere keer weer iets niews ontdekken! Bravo! Wanneer komt dit boek naar Amerika?
