After the death of his wife, Gurupada, an advocate, has not been at peace. He meets Birinchi Baba who claims to be an ageless holy man. Birinchi Baba tells stories from the past; about his arguments with 'Pluto' about time, how he taught E=mc2 to Einstein, and was on first-name terms with Jesus Christ and Buddha. Birinchi Baba has a growing band of rich devotees.

Nibaran, a family friend, realizes that Birinchi Baba is a fraud. This short story is a witty account of Birinchi Baba's growing fame and Nibaran's attempts at exposing Birinchi Baba.

Rajshekhar Basu (Bengali: রাজশেখর বসু), better known by the pen name Parashuram (পরশুরাম) (March 16, 1880 – April 27, 1960) was a Bengali writer, chemist and lexicographer. He was chiefly known for his comic and satirical short stories, and is considered the greatest Bengali humorist of the twentieth century. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956.Basu began his writing career in the 1920s. He adopted the pen name of Parashuram while writing humorous pieces for a monthly magazine. The name was not, apparently, an homage to the Parashurama of mythology. In fact, Basu simply borrowed the surname of someone at hand, the family goldsmith, Tarachand Parashuram. His first book of stories, Gaddalika, was published in 1924 and drew praise from such personalities as Rabindranath Tagore.

In 1937, when he published Chalantika, a monolingual Bengali dictionary, Rabindranath commented:

"At long last, we have a dictionary for Bengali. The concise grammar for Bengali that you have included in the appendix is also wonderful."

Chalantika also included Basu's first efforts to reform and rationalize Bengali orthography. A few years before its publication, in 1935, Calcutta University formed a committee, chaired by him, to formulate a set of guidelines governing the spelling of Bengali words. The recommendations of this committee were broadly accepted, and Chalantika is still in use today.

এই গল্পের কোনো রিভিউ হয় না। হওয়ার কোনো দরকারও নেই। কৌতুকরস, ব্যঙ্গ, স্নিগ্ধ রোমান্স আর অল্প কথায় মস্ত বড়ো চরিত্র তৈরি করার ক্ষেত্রে সার্থকতার শ্রেষ্ঠ নিদর্শন হিসেবে এই গল্পটিই ছিল, আছে, থাকবে।
গল্পটা আপনার পড়া থাকলে আপনি নিশ্চয় আমার সঙ্গে একমত হবেন।
এখনও পড়ে না থাকলে এক্ষুনি সেই ত্রুটি সংশোধন করুন। এ হল সেই জিনিস, যাকে সবাই নকল করতে চায়, কিন্তু যে থেকে যায় আদি ও অকৃত্রিম রূপে।

In Birinchi Baba, a bunch of young men come to the rescue of an elderly gentleman who, after being widowed, has decided to embrace religion in a big way - by becoming the devotee of a godman who claims to be able to transcend time. It's a satirical, sharp stab at godmen and the gullible people who so easily get taken in by them; but at the same time it's a delightfully witty story as well.
