During a daring raid on a secret Pirate stronghold in the Caribbean, Captain Rob McGregor of the Sea Dancer and his own pirate crew steal the infamous treasure belonging to Captain William Kidd. Rich beyond their wildest dreams, Captain McGregor and his band of pirates set out to sea, their ships' holds full of pirate booty.
When they are hit by the most intense electrical storm of the 17th Century, the Sea Dancer is transported through time to the year 2014. Bemused, hungry and thirsty, Captain McGregor and his crew sneak into a secluded bay in Puerto Rico, hoping to find food and water.
Instead they find a 'palace' : an exclusive five-star holiday resort for the rich and famous.
Scared, bewildered and desperate, they take over the resort, holding everyone hostage.
Quickly, the situation goes from bad to worse. Within hours of landing at the Blue Emerald Bay Resort, several of the crew fall sick. When one dies, the resort doctor identifies it a unique and new strain of pneumonic plague, never before seen in the 21st Century, and an infection so deadly that if it infects the residents of the Blue Emerald Bay and escapes the confines of the resort, could threaten to wipe out the human race… "Free to Infect, First to Die", is a medical thriller like no other you will ever read.
Ian Irvine was brought up in Scotland, and studied Physics for far too many years, before travelling the world working for high-technology companies. Ian has spent a career helping build the internet and delivering its benefits to users throughout the world,...as well as helping to bring up a family. Ian enjoys writing, painting and composing in his spare time. His particular joy is found in taking scientific fact and creating a thrilling story around it in such a way that readers learn science whilst enjoying the thrill of the ride. It is Ian's hope that everyone who reads an I.C.P.Irvine novel will come away learning something interesting that they would never otherwise have found an interest in. Never Science fiction. Always science fact. With a twist.
The first of Ian's novels is a Genetic Conspiracy Thriller which explores the world of Stem Cell Research and encourages us all to ask some very searching questions about the advances that science is making, and how much we, or others, should let it affect society. A contemporary adventure, "The Orlando File" takes the reader around the world and back, and creates a unique moral dilemma that the reader cannot help but get embroiled in: at the end, the reader must ask themself, what would they do in that situation?
His second novel "The Crown of Thorns" explores the power of genetics, explores the questions that the potential to clone humans will raise, and asks the ultimate question...what would happen if a scientist found a way to clone Jesus Christ?
Ian's third novel "London 2012 : What If?" departs from the world of genetics and explores an interesting possibility that Quantum Physics raises:the possibility for parallel worlds to exist alongside each other...and what would happen if a man who wondered what other types of lives he could be living had he made other choices, where unexpectedly to step from one world into another parallel world. "What If" is also an interesting voyage through human emotions, and many readers will find themselves asking themselves similar questions that the lead character does as they read the book. As with both "The Crown of Thorns" and "The Orlando File", at the end of the book the reader is left thinking...and different readers may take away different views on how the novels did, or should have ended... It is hoped that in this way, the novels will make themselves ideal subjects for reading clubs or book clubs.
Ian hopes that if you honour him by spending the time reading one his novels, that you will find it a positive experience, and enjoy it. He also invites you to email him and let him know if you did or did not enjoy the novel. And if you did, what were your favourite parts?
This was a well written story and great characters, kept you turning the pages. The pirate world was so well described you felt you were with the heroine. Recommended. Would love a sequel to this book as I felt it could have gone on.
Boring. If I wanted science education I would go back to school. Too much intricate details on how, why, and what. Not very believable either. I like time travel books, but this one is so technical in explanations, it is boring. I couldn't make it to the end. I gave up. The story drags on and on. I would not recommend this to time travel enthusiasts.
This book was recommended by a friend very non-challantly when I mentioned I enjoyed reading books on time travel. I decided to check it out and was NOT disappointed. I have had so much trouble putting this book down at night and finally cake to the end of the story - a book I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. I anticipate reading many more of his books int eh coming future. I found this to be very well written and definitely held my attention!
A fabulously well written romantic adventure. The time travel aspect just added even more suspense and excitement to the story. Captain Rob McGregor from 1699 and Sally Davis from 2014 never seem to have a moment of peace. The tale itself is very involved and will keep you hanging on every word. A must have on your reading list. Don't miss out.
First several chapters were boring to me so I skimmed them and do not feel I missed anything relevant to the over all storyline. the remainder of this book was ok, well thought out and almost believable:-)
I absolutely adore all this authors books, each one has me captivated from the first to last page, so much so that I have read them more than once & loved them all the more!! Brilliant writing from a brilliant author with a brilliant mind !!!! Cannot recommend enough
A totally original idea about time travel that was intriguing and kept me eager to read the next chapter. The characters are wonderful! A must read for time travel aficionados.
The unbelievable becomes believable! The greatest adventures from past to present! Imagine you're in a resort on Puerto Rico...and that's just the beginning! Great book! Must read!
I love time travel stories, but I had a very hard time getting into this one. The first few chapters were putting me to sleep, BUT, because I do love this genre of books, I will pick it up again at some point and give it another try.
I enjoyed your story very much and will consider purchasing your future works. You have a gift for blending the absurd with scientific fact and fiction.
Stumbled upon this book accidentally and thoroughly enjoyed it.I can't wait to see what happens next. The characters were likeable and the story was a good pace
