A self-hypnosis book written by a master of the subject.
His biography is too humble. I am familiar with the author's work though I have never met him. He meticulously researches a subject and tests his work before releasing it and there are few people who have delved so deep into the self-hypnosis subject. I've watched his training course video and have seen his work demonstrated and proven. There is no 'woo' here. No candles, incense, or magic incantations.

Hypnosis has been thoroughly researched and documented by the scientific community. There are over 11,000 hypnosis articles in the National Institue of Health database alone. There have been Functional MRI scans, PET scans, biofeedback tests, and randomized controlled trials. The author is well-read and calls upon this evidence throughout the book. You profit from his aggregation of research and training. It would require a stack of reading to do it yourself.

The book teaches you to self-hypnotize, why it works and how it works. It provides many recipes for changing your behavior and thinking. I've personally benefitted in many ways.

The book contains recipes, not scripts, which may seem less convenient but is to your benefit.
The techniques can be personalized and applied to other areas not covered specifically. For that reason you should read the whole book. For example, Do read about quitting smoking even if you don't smoke.

The bibliography itself is a gold mine.

Side note: If you are new to hypnosis, there is a point in the book that needs extra emphasis. When he tells you to believe you are an excellent hypnotic subject, really believe it. People experience hypnosis in different ways. It's common for a person to not feel any different, so watch for any little sign and go with that. I've witnessed many a hypnotized person— they can't move their feet and their hand is glued to their face and they'll look you in the eye and tell you they don't think they're hypnotized.

The author has a treasure trove of free material on his web site and some audios to help you exercise your self-hypnosis skills.

The book does have flaws unfortunately
There is no index.
The cover does not equal the quality of its contents. Had I not known of the author's reputation I may have overlooked this book.
The layout is awful. A Production Compositor has skills that effortlessly transmit printed words to your mind. This book has giant type and extra whitespace in lines, paragraphs and margins that hamper my enjoyment. Headings and subheadings are inconsistently formatted. Chapter and section breaks seem haphazard and confusing.
Editing. A great author is not a great editor. The exposition of the material is enhanced by the skills of a professional editor. They are amazing at what they do. A copy editor could correct the spelling and punctuation errors. A talented book team could polish this into a masterpiece. No kidding. The material is gold. It deserves proper treatment.

This is the most meaning book review I've ever written.

This was one of the first books which started me off on the almost compulsive consumption of self improvement books, and therefore I'm forever grateful to the author for having written it! I love Adam's humour and the way he delivers knowledge - He does it like a friend you've known for years, who you're having a chuckle with over a pint in the pub; honestly, frankly, intimately, and with a bundle of character.

The good: lots of discussion of self hypnosis, the history of hypnosis, etc. lots of different recipes for different goals (pretty much all variations on the same recipe).

The bad: the formatting of the e-book is atrocious. I actually sent them a note on day one (like, the first day the book was out) to complain and they haven't sent through an updated copy, so I assume it's still terrible.

Eason is also very repetitious and prone to quote lots and lots of studies, which comes off as very appeal to authority. As someone who runs hypnosis diploma courses, shouldn't he have many stories of his own?

His impetus for writing this book was his changing model of how hypnosis works, a new model that completely invalidated an earlier book of his. He spends a LONG time on the assertion that hypnosis and trance are not the same thing. Which is great, but if he's going to go on about it that much, shouldn't he go into why they've been so closely intertwined? What is trance, then?

Frustrating. Needed a really thorough content edit as well as copy edit,

A very long and tedious read - 400 pages that a good editor could get to 40

I have been practicing self hypnosis for over 30 years (I think it helped me to achieve many of my ambitious life goals.

I was expecting an overview or synthesis of recent studies of hypnosis using NMR brain scanning and other hard scientific
measurements that have become available in this century - Similar to recent studies on mindfulness & meditation - rather than quotes from 19th century practitioners. So nothing new comes out of this 400 plus page repetitive and monotonous work.

This is a big book that covers a lot of ground starting in it's philosophical and scientific underpinnings and through a lot, and I mean a lot, of step by step how-to.
This book is by a brit. He is obviously writing from the point of view of someone who is in a system of medicine that needs to back up what it says with some scientific justification.
The other book I read was by an American and read like classic new age self help snake oil.
