A Double-Edged Blade

Rate this book
Lovely British agent Faith Worthington is sent on a mission to expose a ruthless IRA terrorist. But a bullet to the thigh knocks her back to seventeenth-century Ireland...and into the arms of rebel leader Miles O'Bruaidar. Known as the Irish Lion, Miles immediately suspects the modern-day beauty of being a spy. He takes Faith as his hostage, only to discover her feminine wiles are incredibly alluring. But desperate to return to the future, Faith has no time for love, especially with a mutton-feasting, ale-quaffing brute like Miles. Yet with each passing day away from her own time and staying with the charming rogue, Faith knows her heart has been pierced to the quick, but she wonders if their love will always be a double-edged blade.

Loved it!

Being I have read both books in this series, I hated to see them end... Of course it was nice to read of Faith & Mile's story, and previously from the other book Fiona & Ian's tale. There are recognizable characters in each book, but for those who have yet to read these books read this one first in order to understand who is who. I went backwards, but all was well. Wonderful bits and pieces of history, as well as witticisms and romance. Do enjoy!

4 stars. I quite enjoyed the story. The heroine was strong and the love wasn't isn't and seemed beautiful :). This could've been 5 stars except for one major flaw: she was supposed to be a spy, trained how to fight, but once she traveled back in time, she lost all of those skills. She was just a normal girl, which isn't bad, but that's not who her character was supposed to be.

4.5 stars. I actually read “Across a moon swept moor” before reading this as I didn’t realise it was a sequel to this book but that really didn’t matter. Yes, a few things were slightly spoiled because they had been referred to in that book but I still really enjoyed this one.

Too boring to finish

I only made it threw 29%. Faith was a very unlikable character and she became so annoying that you didn't want Miles to be stuck with her. The rest was too boring to continue.

If you like complete rip offs of other books than this is your book. This is the less interesting and less well written copy of The Outlander.

Change up the location and a few details and this is nothing more than a blatant rip-off of Outlander. DNF

LOVED this book ... it had everything I find entertaining ... likeable characters, intense intrigue, complex mystery, time travel and a lil bit of fey magic!! Our lead character Faith Worthington works for MI5 and is on the trail of a dangerous, serial killer. The agency has tracked him to Ireland, where they plan a sting operation. However, sometime around midnight on May 1st, Faith finds herself in a terrible thunderstorm and in the center of the sacred Beaghmore Stone Circles. Her quarry is in sight, but he spies her as well, they both raise their guns ... she shoots and misses; he shoots, lightning cracks, she feels a searing pain in her leg ... and then blackness! When she awakes, nothing is as it should be1 To follow Faith's adventure, read this book ... enjoy the journey, the mystery, and the passion. I hope you like it as much as I did!

History, Romance and Mystery

A good read with all the right ingredients, hunk of a man, a spirited women, beautiful country, magic and history. Having been to Ireland twice her descriptions of the land and people brought me right back there. Appreciated the authors research into the time period she wrote about.b

Really enjoyed reading this book. A Double-Edged Blade should be read before Across a Moonswept Moor. I read them out of sequence but since they're time-travel somewhat historical romances it didn't spoil anything :)

A wonderful journey🤗

This is an amazing story traveling into the past.
Danger, drama & love. All the excitement you could ask of a story. It pulls you in & you get lost among the people who are extraordinary.
Enjoy as you read this delightful story.

It was okay. The story line dragged throughout the whole book. Faith was an annoying character. The sequel is a better book.

This was a much less believable version of Outlander. I made it to about the 40% mark and threw in the towel.

I liked this more genuinely than I expected. It wasn't ridiculous enough to give me the kind of campy, so bad it's good enjoyment that I was expecting, but some moments gave me genuine enjoyment. I generally can't get into romance in actual romance novels, so me saying I liked the sex scenes between Miles and Faith is saying something. Miles was attractively domineering for my tastes. I liked the background plot a lot, as a huge fan of British history and time travel. Faith was an okay heroine, didn't love her, didn't hate her. I found some aspects of the book dealing with it being written twenty years ago to be quite quaint.

I agree with many comments that this is a super similar to Outlander (at least from what I know of it, i.e. the first season of the TV show), but that didn't bother me.

So, all in all, this was probably a 2 star book, but I moderately enjoyed reading it and that's what my score reflects.

Historical fiction with entertainment and Fantasy!

I was engulfed with this book from the beginning till the end. This book would be enjoyed by readers who love action and adventure to many other genres. The book takes you back in time and vividly describes the time period of the Irish, English and even some history of the Scottish people and how they lived in such a tumultuous time. This is not a history book but a story that keeps you trying to predict what will happen next. I give this book the highest rating allowed but would give it a 5 star plus because I enjoyed it so much!

Good read

This book combines three genres in one book. Sci fire, romance, and mystery. The author has put them together in a way that's enjoyable and added history to the genres. A very enjoyable book. I commend the author and appreciate her work. Thanks for an enjoyable read, I couldn't put it down.

Time travel delight

Good read , time travel at it best. Faith get thrown back 350 Yeats to the mid 1600s. Accused of being an English spy by the leaser of the rebel forces in Ireland and being held prisoner Fait starts seeing and feeling g feeling for her captor.

To me this mirrored Outlander. Not sure which was published first. Read to 75%.

It was an interesting read. I just didn't feel that the heroine was a MI5 agent. Yes going back in time would limit her and she was able escape but it just didn't connect with me.

Double edged story

Great writing. Storyline lifted from someone else. And Pauline was on the train track one to many times. I will try another of her books
