So I really enjoyed reading the author's 'Slave girl in the Harem' so I decided to read this one as well. This book was less enjoyable than her other book. Overall it wasn't a bad read but it could have been a lot better. I liked the premise. However, there were several scenarios for which I had to suspend believability for that time period.
Moreover, the whole time it felt like she was the one from the wrong side of the tracks (I don't mean the race part) not the daughter of a powerful plantation owner. Said plantation owner, was just there. When the daughter returns from her 3 year ordeal, he doesn't even try to get the details on her assailants to bring them to justice. It was just like, oh well, let's take you for your mom so you can have dinner.
The villain and villainess basically got away with everything they planned every time they planned it the whole book and nobody ever questioned or suspected them. To add insult to injury, the author didn't even gloss over what ultimately happened to them so no comeuppance there either. All we learned is that the dad (who finally showed he was there other than to say hello and obey his lover) said that he was going to take care of Angela. We are not shown nor told how or what happened. Same for her brother.
I like my HEA to be detailed with all the good things happening to them, including what happened to the bad people. That was not the case here. The ending feels very bland.
